This article comprehensively details Yūichirō Hyakuya's story from the Seraph of the End series, specifically the light novels and manga. Events are in chronological order, beginning with the historical circumstances where Yu as a child was first seen in the ancient past. Whether a different child to the present-day Yu, a Yu in name only, or fundamentally the same through some means, Yu's experiences during the dark ages of Ancient Greece are documented. During the 21st Century, Yu is a child whose experiences are briefly touched upon in the prequel Seraph of the End: Guren Ichinose: Catastrophe at Sixteen light novels, and the manga adaption of them.

After undergoing experimentation and with his parents attempting to murder him, Yu was brought to the Hyakuya Orphanage where he met Mikaela Hyakuya and the other members of his orphanage family. The beginning of the Owari no Seraph manga, Yu is taken underground by vampires after a calamity devastated the world. A desire to escape shapes the story, and the resulted trap near the exit of the city more so. The path before him is laid out by Guren Ichinose, where Yu embraces the chance for revenge. His experiences are also intertwined with that of his team, namely Shinoa Squad and the goals of the Moon Demon Company.

While reclaiming Mika was on his mind, Yu would be affected by the orders of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army. In deciding to desert them, Yu and who he considered his family make their own path, which involves rescuing those they know and whose help they need. The seraph aspect of him would factor into what Yu can do, and whose attention it attracts. Increasingly used as a pawn by others, Yu would try and help who he can. Battling with his cursed gear and as part of a team can help Yu survive, even as he is drawn into dangerous predicaments to himself and those he cares about. Yu is prepared to go along with such plans to this end, even when the full details are not shared.

History

Dark Ages

Sika Madu with a young Yu

In the dark ages, Yūichirō accompanied Sika Madu in buying Ashera from imprisonment and obeys his master's order in freeing Ashera. When Ashera asks if he is a bought child too, Yu just stares at him silently. He does not know and asks Ashera if he himself was brought, Yu does not remember anything. Yu asks who he calls Sigama whether he was brought but concludes that Sika Madu does not know either, but contemplates that it is possible he was before following Sika Madu.

When Sika Madu asks Ashera if he is hungry, Yu interrupts that he is really hungry. He answers Sika Madu that whilst he ate not too long ago, enough to feel like he would pop he is hungry again, and asks why is that. Replying to Sika Madu, Yu asks what a growth spurt is and whether it means he will get to be big like him before abruptly stating that he is really hungry once more. He then cannot talk over his eating. A bowl breaks as Yu collapses to the ground as he explains that his tummy hurts, he is going to pop. He ate too much but asks if Sika Madu thinks if he has gotten bigger, or smaller when he is told overeating may be bad for ones health, Yu cannot eat another bite. Walking through the streets Yu asks Ashera how he knows his name when he speaks to him. Pointing to himself and waiting expectantly, Yu imitates Ashera awaiting for him to asks how Yu knows his name so that he could copy Ashera in saying that Yu heard Siga Madu call him that. Yu then asks whether he is amazing for being able to tell Ashera's name, in the same manner as Ashera learnt his name, from Sika Madu.

As they continue walking, Yu asks what Ashera means when asked about his duties. With the question simplified to what he does between waking up an sleeping, Yu answers that he eats, reads when Sika Madu tells him to then plays, eats again then sleeps when he is tired. Yu guesses it is the case that he plays all day when Ashera points it out to him. As to whether Yu is a slave he wants to know what one is, he also does not know if master buys child slaves a lot. One question Yu can answer after clarification is that Sika Madu does summon him to his chambers, just sometimes though. Back at Sika Madu's manor Yu takes a toy snake from a box and asks whether Ashera is going to play. In the face of Ashera's reluctance Yu insists that it is a lot of fun, adding sound effects to the snake. He is delighted when Ashera says he will play that with him remaining oblivious to Ashera's concerns on his survival chances.

By night time Yu stands by himself in Sika Madu's room. He is staring out the window when Ashera finds him at which point Yu holds his own face and yells as six seraph wings emerge from his back. In this state he expresses a seething hatred for humans for dabbling in the taboo and wishes to kill them. His eyes have changed and he glares at Ashera before being told to calm himself by Sika Madu. Hearing that an adjustment had been made on him so that he could stop does not prevent Yu from leaping into the air towards Ashera before being grabbed at the neck by Sika Madu. Feathers fall off him as he demands to be let go, he must kill all humans.

Yu's rage intensifies and results in him using his right hand to cut his left arm clean off. He is able to break through the door where repeating his murderous intent he stabs into Ashera's chest. With this done he shouts and flies out of Sika Madu's manor towards the moon still holding Ashera. Hovering in the sky, Yu says the world is full to brimming with filthy, unrepentant humans and he must kill them. His murderous denouncements come to an end as Yu is unexpectedly decapitated by Sika Madu behind him and he falls to the ground below. With Yu's blood having accidentally got into Ashera, Yu's head is picked up by Sika Madu and his blood is allowed to drip into Ashera's mouth.

He is found sat on a throne in a large room container multiple containers each with a single black substance within. Yu's head is reattached but he remains unresponsive to Ashera, Sika Madu and the black matter above him that sinks extensions of itself into his head.

At some point when he was younger he peeks into a room to find Krul, Ashera and Noya before a display casket. Approaching it, he tugs on Ashera’s clothing and asks what are they looking at. Reminded that Siga Madu said he was not allowed to come in here, Yu happily points out that everybody else is here and does that mean there is something interesting. He presses further, disposed to the idea that it may be a fun new toy. Asked by Krul if he can keep a secret, Yu definitely can, before he asks what a secret is.

Yu calls Mikaela a pretty girl

Picked up by Noya, Yu is held up to the see through case and clarifies that he can see. Beholding the body of Mikaela within, Yu comments on what a pretty girl he is. Focused on that, Yu is decapitated by Noya and he bursts into smoke before it changes into a vertical black mist like substance. A body is carried by Ashera and brought before Sika Madu which is headless.

Joyful, Yu is happy to run into Mika's room. Speaking to the body of Michaela, Yu says it is time for Mika to get up. Called an idiot by Noya and hearing Michaela will not wake up because he is dead, Yu replies he will wake up for him. It is his job to wake him up, he was born to do it, father told him so. Reasoning that if he calls him name enough he will wake up, Yu asks Mika whether he agrees that he will wake up for him. Paying no attention to Noya's words that Yu is to be the sacrifice needed to bring Michaela back from the dead, Yu excitedly speaks to Michaela how it is him, and to get up now, there are lots of fun things to do out here. Merrily repeating his name, Yu states he is bored and does not hear Noya's threats. Yu is then decapitated by Noya.

New Yu born

A disembodied eye that was floating in one of the tanks in the room is manipulated by Noya to develop into a black mush like substance before forming into a child Yu. Finding his voice, Yu exclaims in wonder asking what is he, and that he got out somehow. Questioning what is going on, and where is this, it looks fun, Yu then asks Noya and Ashera who they are, and repeats where is this. After this Yu is murdered by Noya again, another eye forms into Yu. Regarding his hand, Yu reacts to Noya's word that if he makes a peep he will be killed but does not speak. Remaining quiet, Yu views an entourage of demons enter the room, which includes Raimeiki and Byakkomaru, along with Kiseki-o and Gekkouin who are around Sika Madu. This Yu watches the demons speak, where the memories beginning with Yu joyfully entering Michaela's room and saying for him to get up are viewed by Mika whose body takes Yu's place in the tank when Sika Madu joins the memory.

Yu wants to kiss Mikaela to wake him up

Resting on the coffin containing Mikaela, Yu happily says to Mika that it is time to wake up. Noticing Sika Madu is there, Yu answers he is here again as he wants to play with Mika as soon as he can. Aware that Mikaela is already dead, Yu states he is going to wake him up. It would be just like in those fairy tales that Sika Madu tells him, where the prince rescues the princess. Guessing this makes him the prince, Yu reacts with surprise at Sika Madu saying that neither he or Mikaela or him have a gender like humans. Questioning whether Sika Madu thinks he can fix him with a kiss, Yu raises there was a story like that. Unsure whether a poison apple, or poison spindle was involved, Yu recalls the princess' reaction, and how the prince came along to give her the kiss of life. Paying no mind to Sika Madu talking how humans have genders to differentiate them, Yu speaks how maybe he should try kissing Mika then. Disappointed to hear it would not bring Mika back to life, Yu questions what a sacrifice is when Sika Madu mentions how he has not created enough of them. Stating he cannot wait for Sika Madu to explain it later through a fairy tail, Yu is pleased to be thanked for always being with Mikaela, and denies he does not get bored at all staying alone here.

Sika and Yu promise to bring Mikaela back to life together

As Sika Madu leaves to increase humanity's numbers a bit more, Yu calls his name. Asking for him to guess what, Yu has a secret, then questions if he wants him to say it. Addressing how Mika is dead, so he cannot talk, Yu notes it is why they have to bring him back to life. Mentioning how sometimes Mika will still talk to him, Yu demonstrates how if he puts his ear to it close, he can make sure nothing Mika says is ever missed. Announcing he is not bored, Yu is waiting to hear him again. Told this is one big fib, Yu asserts it is true, before speaking to Mika on whether that is right. Where Sika Madu finds it obvious he truly cares about Mikaela, agreeing, Yu affirms he is super nice. After Sika Madu says for them both to bring him back to life, Yu promises as he takes his hand. Likely unknown to him, on an occasion that Yu was speaking with Sika Madu before the coffin of Mikaela he was observed by Ashera who noted their connection.

Events of 2012

Yu is told by his parents that he is a demon spawn

During his childhood, both of his parents screamed that he was a demon spawn. Yu's father tried to kill him, claiming that he had to kill the seraph of the end now or else the world would be ruined. Frightful at his father holding a knife, with his mother in support, Yu was called a devil, and told killing him was the right thing to do. After that, the only thought that crossed Yu's mind was that his life had no value. At 6 p.m., the news shows a fire at an apartment complex. A disheveled woman steps out of the crowd and screams for Yūichirō, about how he a demon and the fire should never be put out. Although Yu was left behind in the burning apartment he is saved by Saitō of the Hyakuya Sect.

Days later, Mahiru visits Yu, who is being experimented on and abused by the Hyakuya Sect. Sitting alone in prison, Yu cries to Mahiru that he was told he has to die, feeling that everyone would be happier if he were dead because he is demon spawn. He is questioned on what law says he has no choice. She asks him about his reason to live and if he has no right to live if he is a demon. Yu does not know how to answer. Since his mind has not broken from his experiences, she tells him he will find an answer one day. A researcher says he will erase all memory of this conversation from Yu’s mind.

During his time in the prison cell, Yu registered how he was alone and felt he would always be so. Although Shikama Doji had appeared before him, Yu did not seem to register his presence. If he heard it, Yu also did not comment on Shikama Doji informing him that it would not be long now, and soon he will meet the one who will give him meaning.

Story

Driven to the Hyakuya Orphanage by Saitō

Near Christmas, Yu is being driven by Saitō. He tries to get the man to answer where they are going, and Saitō eventually tells Yu that he is evacuating him to the Hyakuya Orphanage far from Shibuya. When Saitō brings up with the prospect of Yu getting along with the kids like him, Yu shoots it down as he believes his parents' claim of him being a demon child, hence no one would care about him. Saitō doesn't believe it, but Yu brings up his (step) mother's death, and it brings tears to his eyes. Saitō tries to encourage Yu to smile, but Yu refuses and turns away to look out the window. He ignores Saitō's comments, and even the option for him to die by jumping out of the speeding car, which the boy remained sitting with only his shoulder quivering a little.

Yu then tells Saitō that he will not die because there is something good in this world which the man doesn't believe, so the boy explains about the scientists talking about him meeting someone and being blessed by something. Though when Saitō brings up Yu making friends at the Hyakuya Orphanage, the boy continues to believe there won't be any friends over there.

Prologue

Introduced to the other children at the orphanage

When Yu arrives at the orphanage, he is brought by the director to see the other children outside there. Meeting Mikaela and the other orphans within, seeing as the two 8-year-olds were the eldest, Mika wanted them to be friends, but Yu rejected the idea. Mika asked if Yu was challenging him to a fight and said he was the leader. They fought, and Mika gave him a serious smack-down.

Afterwards, he told Yu that he used to be alone like him, but now he had a big family. And from that day onward, Yu had one too. Yu told him about his parents' violent behavior, saying that "family" no longer meant anything to him. Mika smiled, saying that both of his parents abused him until they got sick of him and threw him out of a moving car. The orphanage took him in after that. The other children shouted out their stories, saying that they never met their parents, their parents committed suicide, or their parents left them at the orphanage door. Mika then told Yu that they weren't lonely because that day was the day their new big brother Yu joined them.

Yu observed the initial stages of the calamity seeing the director suddenly began to bleed from her nose and mouth and collapsed to the ground.

Seeing the initial stages of the end of the world

The adults perished, and Third Progenitor Krul Tepes led the vampire invasion on Tokyo. For the next four years, the orphans survived as livestock for the vampires in the vampire capital of Sanguinem, which is located under Kyoto.

Events of 2016

Possibly as soon as being brought into Sanguinem, he had been taken into a room along with Mika by a group involving Guren, with Ferid and some vampire attendants. Having had sleep induced, Yu lay back to back with Mika in a bed. Likely unknown to him, he and Mika were part of a clandestine effort by Ferid and Guren to have their memories looked into.

At some point Yu was in casual clothing while knocking on the toilet door that Mika was occupying. Calling his name and asking if he was done with his poo yet, Yu answered that he did not need to go himself. Asked why he knocked on the door, Yu mischievously questions what Mika thinks he is holding right now, where there is a coin in his hand. Placing the coin against the door knob to give the impression it is the key to open it, Yu busies himself with trying to gain access to the toilet by pulling on the door knob, and placing his leg against the door. Not knowing what Mika is talking about when he protests, Yu calls to Akane and the others that the bathroom is open.

Dressed in vampire clothing in the streets of Sanguinem, he was embraced by a family member while near other orphans such as Akane and Ako. At another unstated point, Yu was walking beside Mika when promises to kill all the blood-suckers and save their family is being recollected.

With Mika in the vampire city

In Sanguinem in 2016, Mika donates his blood, cringing as the needle pierces his neck. He chats with Yu, who is sitting next to him. Mika thinks Yu is kind because he always maintains the children's hope about defeating vampires.

Once they finish up and leave, Yu asks him what is wrong and says Mika is spacing out. Mika only says he feels tired after donating blood. Yu prattles on about killing vampires again before telling Mika to not carry everything on his own shoulders. Mika knows that one wrong move will get him killed, and he cannot risk Yu dying.

Mika tells him not to worry and asks what Yu's surname is, but Yu cannot remember. Yu asks Mika about his family since he does not look Japanese. Mika's mother was Japanese but his father was Russian, and he says his surname was Shindō. Mika says all of the orphans use the surname Hyakuya because they are all family.

Mika sees Ferid Bathory's mansion and splits off from Yu.

Prologue

Yu's first appearance

In the current time, Yu tells Mika about how to kill vampires based on a book he is reading, from crushing their heads to removing their armband devices. He is in the process of having his blood harvested.

Having his blood taken by vampires

Afterward, Yu rants to Mika that he is tired of always giving their blood and how the vampires viewing them as "livestock". The two then are approached by Ferid Bathory, whom Mika greets. He invites them to his house to partake of their blood, but Mika agrees to go while declining politely for Yu, claiming Yu to be "shy". When Yu asks Mika about his meetings with Ferid illicitly, Mika explains how Ferid's nobility status grants him access to entitlements. Angered at this news, Yu hits Mika on the head in disapproval before leaving him.

Discussing the Hyakuya Orphanage family

Later in the day, Yu was lying on the ground still fuming about Mika when Akane comes by. When she asks about Mika, Yu refuses to talk about him and tells her to go away when asked why he is upset. Akane reminds Yu that he is part of the same family which the latter denies. The two reminisced about Yu arriving at the Hyakuya Orphanage and the start of the Apocalypse four years ago that led them to Sanguinem. Akane then tells Yu that everyone is waiting for him to have dinner before leaving.

When Yu comes home, he becomes frustrated when he learns how Mika was able to get his family enough fresh ingredients to make curry. When Mika arrived later that night, Yu tells him that the children loved the curry and asks what he had to do to get the ingredients. Yu then offers to donate his blood which Mika rejects and scolds him. Yu then becomes concerned when Mika briefly breaks into tears when telling the former that his dedication to slay the vampires keeps the children's hopes up. He then shows Yu a map of the underground and a gun so they can make a daring escape with their orphanage family.

Registering the trap he is in

They are able to get to their family to the city entrance which turns out to be a trap set by Ferid. The vampire noble then proceeded to slaughter the other children in front of Yu and Mika.

Shooting Ferid after he trapped and murdered the orphans

Yu manages to shoot Ferid in the head, but Mika was fatally wounded. Yu calls Mika "family" for the first time. He refuses to leave Mika behind until Mika yells at Yu to leave and pushes him away. Yu escapes, leaving Mika behind; an action that would haunt him for years afterward.

After reaching the outside world and realizing the vampires lied about the world's destruction, Guren Ichinose of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army found him.

Seeking vengeance against the vampires

Guren mentioned a prophecy and knew that Yu was one of the lab rats from the Hyakuya laboratories. He was one of the children that were being experimented on by the Hyakuya Church to create a weapon of mass destruction, as part of the 'Seraph of the End' plan in destroying the world. Guren knew of this beforehand, thanks to intel provided by Mahiru in 2011. In order to take revenge for his family, Yu joins the Japanese Imperial Demon Army as Yūichirō Hyakuya. At some point during a training session with Guren he would swear that he could handle gaining his revenge. Yu denied that he was crying and said he was going to kill all the vampires because they killed Mika.

In a case of training with Guren outside in the rain, Yu went crashing into the ground. Retrieving his sparring sword, Yu shouted that he was not giving up and was going to kill all the bloodsuckers out there. Kicked away, Yu was determined to still fight before affirming he was not done yet. Lying on his back and told that was it for today, anymore and he might die, Yu answered who cares if he dies. Everyone else is already gone, where Yu added he was the only one stuck still alive. Asking why it is just him, Yu vowed to kill all bloodsuckers again while charging towards Guren. Tripped, when carried by him, Yu insisted he was not crying, it was just the rain, neither did he pee his pants.

Memories about training with Guren

On one occasion, Yu was lying on the ground with the sparring sword nearby. His hair was ruffled before Yu looked to see Guren walking away. In a separate instance, Yu was walking with Guren while he was happily waving a stick around. They appeared to be heading to an underground section in the city they were in.

Events of 2020

Second Shibuya High Arc

4 years later in a world filled with monsters

Four years later, Yu is a foot soldier to the Japanese Imperial Demon Army. He continues to be haunted by the death of his family and was recalling that gruesome scene while standing in the middle of Shibuya's streets when he is ambushed by a Horseman of the Apocalypse. Two more soldiers appear in front of Yu and command him to run, but Yu proclaims that his only life purpose is to exact revenge on the vampires before he easily kills this monster in one slice. For this act and his repeated insubordination acts, Yu gets suspended from the army and forced to attend Second Shibuya High in the meantime.

Taken off guard duty

During class, he annoys the teacher with his mumbling and gets threatened with the suspension which Yu's reacts with cheer. He is then tapped by a girl sitting behind him, who uses her notebook to introduce herself as Shinoa Hīragi, his appointed surveillance officer, and tells him to cooperate or she will prolong his suspension. She also mentions that his punishment will end once Yu makes a friend.

Recalling being found by Guren

Yu recalls his first meeting with Guren, who promised to give him the power to take revenge on the vampires. Now four years later, and Yu wonders why Guren is not letting him kill any vampires yet. Yu stays at his desk as the class ends while everyone else leaves. Shinoa stays behind and tries to encourage Yu to start making friends, despite it being a struggle for him since Yu has stubbornly rejected forming close relationships since Ferid Bathory slaughtered his family. He insists he does not need any friends, but Shinoa gives him a note from Guren specifically written with the orders to make a friend; he promptly wads it up and throws it to the floor. With a little persuasion from Shinoa, he steps in to save Yoichi Saotome from bullies. Unfortunately, Shinoa tells him his punishment will be extended if he harms any civilians which leads one of them punching Yu.

Later on, Yu is outside walking with Yoichi and Shinoa while carrying drinks for Yoichi. He learns from Yoichi that he failed the admission test to get into the Moon Demon Company, and tried to become friends with one of the bullies named Yamanaka, a soldier in the Moon Demon Company, to retake the test. Yu becomes angry at Guren and rants at Shinoa upon learning this, and Yoichi says he wants to join the army to get revenge for his sister's death, but Yu tells him to forget the army as his sister wouldn't want him to avenge her death, and the army would not accept somebody as weak as him; which nearly makes Yoichi cry.

Acquiring his sword

A building suddenly explodes from behind them followed by an emergency warning that a vampire has escaped and is close to the school. Yu decides to go after it to prove himself to Guren, so he first rushes to his locker to grab his sword and gun, and soon finds the vampire in one of the classrooms, which Yamanaka is also in.

Fighting the vampire

Yu's approach interrupts her feeding and the two fight. While the vampire is on the opposite side of the room, Yu asks Yamanaka to save the girl on the desk since he is an army candidate, but Yamanaka reveals it was a lie. The vampire then continues the fight with a metal pole in her hand which Yu gets rid of. He tries to shot her with his gun, but she easily avoids his attacks and ends up back with the unconscious girl. Yoichi is able to stop her feeding by tackling her to the ground, and Yu protects him by intercepting the vampire's strike.

Rescued with Guren's arrival

The vampire then grabs Yu by the neck and pushes them through a window. They fall to the ground with the vampire still holding Yu's neck while Yu has his blade stabbed through her. Guren then arrives and ends her life. Yu claims he would have been able to kill her, which Guren says he won't accept those that do not understand teamwork. Yoichi then arrives and hugs Yu, but Yu ends up passing out. Since Yoichi considers Yu a friend, Yu has reached the requirement Guren gave him.

Seeing his family from 4 years ago who are glad that he has made a friend

Yu sees his orphanage family who are glad that Yu has made a friend before they bid him farewell. Waking up after calling for Mika, Yu learns from Shinoa that he and Yoichi have been accepted into the Moon Demon Company.

Seeing demon manifestation

The next day, Yu is given a letter which is from the girl he saved from the vampire. Shinoa then turns up and teases him to start building a relationship so humans can get their population back up to survive. Yu then asks why he is still stuck in Second Shibuya even though he is in the Moon Demon Company which Shinoa explains by showing him her Cursed Gear, Shikama Dōji. Yu tries to take it from her by force, but she quickly relieves him of that notion by manifesting her demon to slam Yu into the fence.

Overcoming a demon

Yoichi then runs up to them with Yamanaka and his friend chasing him. The two reveal that they want to become Yoichi's disciples, and they begin praising Yu upon seeing him. Yu asks them if they have any pride for begging help to people they used to bully, which Yamaka explains that they want their help in saving their friend, Yūji, who went into the Forbidden Chamber and failed to return. Yu, Yoichi, and Shinoa decide to go into the Forbidden Chamber to rescue Yūji, but upon reaching the restricted area, Yu rushes in and fights Yūji for the battle-ax in his hand. During the fight, Yu makes contact with the myo-o demon but breaks out of the demon's illusion on his own, surprising Shinoa. She agrees to notify Guren.

Finding Kimizuki

Later, Yu meets and fights with Shihō Kimizuki before attending his first class in the Moon Demon Company Barracks. Guren introduces Yu as the idiot and Yoichi as the crybaby. At some point in a spell circle class Yu shouted that he did not get all this magic and curse stuff neither did he care. Yu wanted Guren to teach him how to exterminate bloodsuckers before demanding he give him his cursed gear already.

Saying for Kimizuki to see his sister

Yu gets paired with Kimizuki for a practice test. When Kimizuki's sister goes into critical condition, Yu punches Kimizuki and convinces him to go see her during the middle of the exam. They become friends and rivals. Shinoa recommends both of them for the Black Demon Series.

No intention of making friends

Although Yu earns a zero on his spellcraft exam, which is supposed to help determine what rank of cursed gear he can receive, Yu is permitted to try for a Black Demon Series weapon along with Yoichi and Kimizuki. He appears to be nearly illiterate since he used no Kanji on his exam and wrote everything phonetically.

Forming a contract with Asuramaru

Yu challenges Asuramaru, earning the demon's power in order to protect everyone, and Asuramaru informs Yu that 1/10th of him is not human. Afterward, Yu talks to a possessed Yoichi and helps him to regain control over his demon Gekkouin.

Shinjuku Arc

Outside the walls ambushed by vampires

On his first day in the army, Yu meets Mitsuba Sangū, who completes their five-person squad. A Horseman of the Apocalypse chases a young girl. Against Shinoa and Mitsuba's orders, Yu rescues the girl, and a group of vampires attacks him. Mitsuba slaps him for his disobedience, but he declares he does not regret his decision.

Rescuing Mitsuba as they liberate a vampire lair

They then use information from the girl to lead an attack against the vampires. Although the vampires seize Mitsuba, Yu's strength shines through, and he rescues her. Even though the girl deceived them, informing the squad that there were only seven vampires instead of nine vampires, Yu tells her she did the right thing to protect her family.

Her father, however, shouts at the group, telling them that they now have nowhere to go beyond the slums, and that they will have to deal with the monsters on their own. Yu attempts to reason with him, explaining that when he was little, he had to deal with vampire persecution in Sanguinem, and that the day he decided to run away from it costed the lives of his entire family. He abandoned them to die so that he could live, and even though the guilt of that tears at him sometimes, he refuses to allow himself to regret it.

Heading to Shinjuku

Before they head to Shinjuku, Kimizuki hot wires a hummer. This impresses Yu, who says he had not been in a car since he was little and anyone rarely uses cars in Shibuya since gas is such a precious commodity. Yu attempts to drive and nearly accidentally crashes into his squad members, leading Kimizuki to violently remove him from the vehicle. Kimizuki promises to teach him how to drive on another date. As they head to Shinjuku, they encounter Thirteenth Progenitor Crowley Eusford. Yu manages to take his right arm momentarily before Crowley is summoned away by Seventh Progenitor Ferid Bathory.

Finding Mika again and stabbing him

They reach the battlefield in Shinjuku, and Guren summons Shinoa's squad to the 5th Street intersection. After taking his supplement, Yu charges into battle. Enraged overseeing Guren getting stabbed, Yu pierces Mika through the chest with Asuramaru, calling him a bloodsucker and telling him to die. Then, he recognizes his not-quite-dead best friend and family member.

Pursued by vampire nobles

Guren grasps Mika's sword with a spell tag and urges Yu to activate his weapon and kill the vampire, but Yu freezes when he realizes who he just stabbed. Mika releases his sword and escapes. Guren hits Yu and asks him why he did not kill that vampire when he had the chance. Yu says that person is Mika, his family. He cries from happiness. Ferid steps behind Yu and grabs his shoulder, causing Mika to amputate the responsible appendage. Of course, Ferid says he was just joking about tasting Yu. Mika steps up to Yu and tells him to forget about the humans and run away with him.

Unable to lave his squad behind

He lifts Yu and carries him in his arms. Mika warns Yu that Yu is in a bad place and is being used by humans, but Yu has no idea what he is talking about. Yu struggles and breaks free, jumping to the ground. He says that Mika makes it sound as though he is no longer human and asks if it is his fault. Mika immediately tells him it is not Yu's fault. Mika begs Yu to come with him, insisting that he is Yu's only true friend and the humans are only deceiving and using Yu. Yu looks back when Shinoa screams and sees his comrades defeated by the vampires. When he tries to help them, Mika grabs his wrists and says they have to go.

Yu's partial seraph transformation

Just then, the special supplement Shinoa gave Yu under Guren's orders takes effect, causing Yu to transform as his seraph component runs wild. Yu screams. Yu swings at Mika and Crowley before moving to kill Shinoa, his true target. Mika jumps in the way, and Yu stabs him through the back. Mika urges Yu against killing humans. He asks Shinoa how she could dare use Yu like that, and the berserk Yu calls Mika a vampire, telling him to not interfere and saying that all humans must be killed. Guren orders Shinoa to embrace Yu to undo the transformation, so she jumps in after Yu flings Mika aside. Yu cries out and hacks up blood before passing out.

Post-Shinjuku Arc

Waking after the battle

Yu wakes up exhausted a week later. He wakes up a sleeping Yoichi who was sleeping at the end of his bed. He asks what happened, but Yoichi is overly-excited and rushes to inform the others first. Yoichi says that Yu was the only one who was badly injured and spent a week in a coma. Yu comes to realize that Mika is truly alive after all, and cries tears of joy, only for Shinoa to show up and tease him.

Hearing about Mika

Yu does not remember anything after Mika asked Yu to run away with him. Shinoa tells Yu that he suddenly collapsed on the battlefield. She says that many non-noble vampires were killed, with a lot captured, but over half escaped. Yu asks about Mika, saying that he does not care if Mika were the enemy or an ally. Shinoa says that Mika refused to leave Yu's side until another vampire dragged him away. She advises him against any stupid rescue attempts, and Yu says that he is not that stupid and is happy enough knowing that Mika is alive.

Vowing to save Mika

When rest of the Shinoa Squad arrive, Yu apologizes for making them worry. He then says that he is glad everyone survived and is blessed with great friends. The squad asks him if something is wrong with his head, and then inform him that they are on leave until Yu is approved for battle again. Later, in his hospital bed, Yu swears he will save Mika.

Researching vampires

He looks up books on vampires to try and learn how to turn Mika back into a human. Later, Lieutenant General Kureto Hīragi summons Yu to the Shinjuku Central Army Headquarters First Office where Kureto sicks a starving unarmed vampire on him. Yu kills the vampire without hesitation. Kureto challenges him to a duel but cheats, winning quickly. He then attacks Kureto while his back is turned, but his aide intercepts. He also makes Major General Shinya Hīragi confront Yu. Kureto tortures Yoichi and Kimizuki to try and get information from Yu. He tells Yu about the Hyakuya Sect, asking if Yu was from that family. Yu knows nothing about them.

Learning about cursed gear manifestations

Guren tells Yu he knew about Yu's connection with the sect all this time, and he agrees to help Yu get Mika back. Shinoa and Mitsuba teach the squad about possession- and materialization-type demons. Yu weakens the curse binding his demon before Kimizuki and faces illusions of his orphanage family and his biological family. After Kimizuki conquers his demon as well, the two spar. Both of them use special abilities, which should be impossible for the possession-type demons they use. Yu uses a technique called "Asura-Kannon", ordering it to fan-out which produces numerous materialized swords.

Shinoa tells Yu about what he really did on the battlefield of Shinjuku, and they agree to side with Guren in the upcoming political power struggle.

Nagoya Arc

Dedicated to family

Yu hears screaming and goes down with Kimizuki and Yoichi behind him to find Mitsuba and Shinoa with a frying pan on fire. After Kimizuki steps in and cooks breakfast, the squad eats where Shinoa tells Yu about his transformation and going berserk in Shinjuku which brings into question whether they can trust Guren or not. She also brings up the power struggle that Guren will start against the Hīragi family for control in the Demon Army, yet Yu and everyone agrees to remain loyal to Guren.

Travelling to Ebina to target vampire nobles

The squad then depart for Nagoya with Kimizuki driving the squad down the Tomei Expressway, which is somewhere between Tokyo and Nagoya, dodging Horsemen that are on the road. Yu leaps out to slay one or them, and a series of pranks ensue. At some point, Kimizuki lets Yu drive the rest of the way to the Ebina rest stop. Shinoa briefs them on their mission.

Wanting to join the mission

Yu wanders around the Ebina rest stop. He chats with Yoichi and Kimizuki until Sergeant Makoto Narumi and his squad arrives. The two squads are paired together for this mission. Narumi says he does not trust a bratty kid who showed up late to his first meeting. Yu asks Narumi his age, and he answers nineteen. In response, Yu says he is twenty with a baby face. Shigure summons Yu for his punishment, and Shinoa and Mitsuba attempt to take responsibility for the squad's tardiness. Yu meets with Guren's squad.

Seeing Guren's squad

Guren is already aware that he is covering for his friends, and he appreciates Yu's development from being so focused on revenge to being loyal to his new family. Shinya and Goshi tease Guren, and Yu asks them if Guren considers his squad family.

Ready for the sparring match

Guren tells Yu is here to punish Shinoa. Goshi begins a humiliating illusion of a bound and naked Yu with four tiles piled on his thighs. Goshi makes the illusion Yu cry for forgiveness, help, and his mommy, screaming that he peed his pants. Shinoa's squad rushes in, and Shinoa quickly orders Shikama Dōji to destroy that illusion. Guren lectures Shinoa, scolding her that a little mistake could cost her family and squad their lives. He challenges her to a test: Guren, Mito Jūjō, and Shinya Hīragi in a fight against her entire squad. He gives her ten seconds to prepare. Shinoa assigns Yu and Kimizuki to keep Guren busy. She orders the squad to stay within the radius of her scythe. Kimizuki and Yu do not have time to explain their abilities.

Finding a spell tag placed on him

Yu and Guren clash. He manages to hold his own against Guren, impressing the other soldiers. Guren attaches an explosion charm to Yu's head, and Shinoa makes to disenchant it. Mito stands on her scythe, disabling her movements. Yu charges Guren, and Shinya fires Byakkomaru at him. Guren takes the opening to slip past Yu and breach their lines. He tells Shinoa's squad that it is over, and all their friends are dead.

Combined with Narumi squad

He introduces them to the other soldiers as 16-year-old rookies and states that three of them bear black demon weapons. Yu attempts to pick another fight with Narumi, and Mitsuba bashes him over the head. Shinoa apologizes for him. Shinoa's squad agrees that they desperately need to work on their teamwork, and the operation commences. The squads mobilize and head to Nagoya.

Awaiting the vampire noble targeting mission to begin

Within Lucal Wesker's ward in Nagoya, Narumi and Shinoa's squads have ten minutes left before beginning their assignment. Their target is Fifteenth Progenitor Lucal Wesker. Although Yu fails to recall their target's name correctly, he lists the name of every soldier on the two squads, promising to let none of them die.

Targeting Lucal Wesker for extermination

On the ground, Yu acts as a point for the squads and charges Lucal Wesker. Kimizuki, Shinoa, and Narumi jump in. Lucal swings Shinoa in Narumi's path, but Yu defends her. While Yu's back is bared, Lucal claims Yu is too powerful for a human and moves in to attack him. Mitsuba summons Tenjiryū's dummies to defend Yu, but Lucal banishes them with a wave of his hand. Kimizuki strikes, but Lucal disarms him. Rika manages to make the first successful attack against Lucal by stabbing him with her weapon from behind. Shusaku summons his demon Akahebi, which becomes a chain binding Lucal's left arm.

Co-operating to prevent Lucal joining other nobles

By cutting off his own arm, Lucal avoids Kimizuki, Yu, and Narumi's attacks against him. Kimizuki taunts the vampire, asking if a vampire can regrow his arm if it is vaporized with a curse. He tells Lucal to beg for it if he wants it back, sending the vampire into a rage. Lucal charges in, swatting away Shinoa and Mitsuba's attacks. Yoichi and Shinya fire at him. As he dodges, Yu strikes, slicing the vampire in half and Narumi finishes him. The two squads cheer.

Supporting other arriving squads

On the streets of Nagoya, Shinoa Squad and Narumi Squad wait for the survivors to regroup. Sergeant Aiko Aihara arrives with a bruised, battered, and bleeding face. Kimizuki notes that Aiko's squad only has seven survivors, so eight of them died. Yu offers to have his squad take watch while hers rests, and she takes him up on it. Guren and his squad come above ground, but they are all worse for the wear. Narumi reports that Shinoa Squad did very well.

Registering there are hostages

Guren orders Shinoa Squad and Narumi Squad to join his squad and hunt down Crowley, Chess, and Horn. Guren orders them to stage an attack on Crowley that will last ten minutes. If they cannot kill him during that time, they will retreat and tackle the next mission with those numbers. Guren orders Aiko to hold the position for thirty minutes and pass on orders to any late teams to report to Nagoya Airport. Anyone late is presumed dead.

Recognizing the targets

Once they reach Nagoya City Hall, Guren looks at the hostages being used through a telescope and knows that they are being used as bait to lure them. Yu insists on bursting in and saving them. Narumi dismisses it as too dangerous and when Yu asks him what they should do, Narumi asks Guren what they should do. Guren suggests that they snipe them from their position and see if they can lure them out but says that if there are too many of them, they are to abandon the hostages and run. Yu shouts that they can't do that.

5 minutes for the rescue

Shinoa interrupts Yu and asks Guren what their priorities are. In order, he says that their top priority is to maintain their numbers, letting no one die. Their second priority is to free the hostages and lastly, getting the hostages out alive. Narumi states that this is because they are needed for another mission after this. Guren then says that they need to keep the vampires occupied in Aichi Prefecture for as long as they can so they can buy enough time for the main forces in Shibuya to get prepared.

With Guren and Narumi squad

After Crowley catches Gekkouin, Guren and his squad discuss what to do. After careful planning, Guren decides that his squad will take his squad to attack Crowley while Shinoa and Narumi Squads free the hostages. He gives them five minutes to rescue as many hostages as they can and act as a proper diversion for the main force in Shinjuku. As soon as the five minutes are up everyone has orders to retreat to the Nagoya Airport immediately.

Assisting Guren and Shinya

Sometime later, Yoichi reports on the situation with Guren's squad to the squad and Yu insists on rescuing him. Shinoa agrees with him but says they only have five minutes. She gives them specific instructions regarding their plan. Yu breaks through the floor and attacks Crowley. Crowley blocks easily and moves to decapitate Yu. Kimizuki parries the attack, and Mitsuba distracts Crowley by summoning dummies with Tenjiryū. Yu uses Asura-Kannon, but Chess and Horn immediately step in and defend Crowley from it. Chess and Horn counterattack and rip apart the shield Mitsuba forms with Tenjiryū.

Having to leave Guren

Guren orders Shinoa Squad to leave. Crowley recognizes Yu as the one who went berserk in Shinjuku. When Yu moves to rescue Guren, who is on the ground behind Crowley, Shinya stops him and orders him to abandon Guren. Shinoa says their five minutes are up and orders a retreat.

Upset they had to leave

Outside, Yu breaks free of Kimizuki's grasp and complains about leaving Guren behind. Yu asks if ignoring feelings and abandoning family is acceptable as long as it is for their mission. He holds back tears and states that would mean giving up on family. He calls Guren family.

Recalling Guren's words

Yu recalls four years ago after Guren picked him up from Sanguinem. One of Guren's men reported that Yu woke up screaming, and Guren comes to check up on him. Yu cries in his bed. Guren asks about what dream Yu had, and Yu says its the same one he always has: Ferid Bathory slaughtering his family. Guren asks if this means he wet the bed again, and Yu snaps, stating that he ever wet the bed. Guren says he will stay there until Yu falls asleep. He sits by Yu's bed and reads documents on the Seraph of the End project begun by the Hyakuya Sect. He stays there from 2:20 a.m. until 2:50 a.m. Yu says he has never really had a family since he was born because his parents called him demon spawn and tried to kill him. He says he made a new family, which was killed anyway. He says that living is painful and wants to know if it is even worth it.

Guided to live to find a reason to live

Guren states that living hurts him, too. He says he failed to save the one he loved most, but, if he sticks around, then a day may come where someone needs him. He instructs Yu to live until he finds a new reason for life and people who need him. He leaves Yu and orders him to sleep.

Internal bleeding and curse marks over his face

In the present, Yu wipes away his tears and states he cannot follow orders. He says he is not cut out for teamwork. He tells the others to proceed without him, and he will stay behind. He says he would rather die than be unable to save his family. Before anyone can stop him, he swallows two curse stimulant pills for a total of three since the beginning of the mission. Shinoa orders him to spit them up, but Yu begins to cough blood. The curse power overwhelms him, forcing blood out of his eyes and making him scream. Yu coughs up blood after overdosing on pills to increase his power at the end of the previous chapter.

Spoken to by Asuramaru

Inside his mind, Asuramaru, calling him hopeless, comments on how Yu appeared to give up on revenge and then became obsessed with living and family. Yu says he does need the power to save Guren when Asuramaru asks him if he wants the power that badly. He begs Asuramaru to give him power which the demon agrees to. If Yu wants power, he’ll give him all he asks for and more since he feeds on ugly human emotions like obsession and greed. However, he complains that the pills Yu took before are a problem as they force the curse to go crazy while keeping his greed in check. Asuramaru says that the contradiction won’t do. He states that Yu cannot expect to just take drugs and get stronger without any consequences so Yu asks how he can get stronger.

Hearing he is dead

Asuramaru says he can’t answer that as Yu is already dead. He says that it was a quick death. Yu took so much of the drug that all his internal organs ruptured and his heart exploded. He says while he has powerful regenerative abilities, but that kind of damage is beyond him. He says Yu’s done. Dead. Then, he amends his statement, saying that at least he should be. The only reason he isn’t is that of those disgusting angels. Their power is forcibly keeping him alive. They peer into the background of Yu's mind and see something lying on the ground. Yu asks Asuramaru what it is, which the demon says he doesn’t know but from there it looks like a trumpet. Yu has the urge to take the trumpet, but Asuramaru warns him not to take it and insists that Yu take him instead since angels can be far nastier than demons.

Stopped from touching the trumpet

Upon noticing that Yu’s heart has started beating again, Asuramaru says that now that it’s fixed, he can take care of the rest. He stabs into Yu's abdomen, telling him not to go with the trumpeters and instead stay with him, accept him. He tells Yu that he can heal him but when he tries to he says that he cannot return Yu to normal. He complains that Yu lost even more of his humanity than before and has become even uglier. The demon orders him to never do that again and claims Yu's body is his. Yu says he does not care and demands for Asuramaru's power. Asuramaru calls him a greedy little human wretch and tells Yu that he has already given it to him as three pills worth of the drug is in effect. He can use all his strength for the next two to three minutes without becoming a demon.

A newfound sense of power

Yu wakes up to his friends' panicked faces. He says he is okay and has something to do. With immense speed and power, he leaps from the ground and breaks through the wall to reach Crowley and attacks him. He demands that Crowley give Guren back, and Crowley wonders if he is really human. The two fight and Crowley delights in the fact he may have to use both hands for once.

Returning to fight Crowley

Guren, whose wrists have been bound, gets between them and orders Yu to leave. When Yu asks why he is still not strong enough, Crowley answers that it is because Yu is only livestock and asks if Yu fears cows and pigs revolting someday. He insists vampires will never fear humans. Yu repeatedly yells at him to shut up and die, and they exchange blows. Guren orders Yu to stop. He says that Yu's demon will take over if he uses more power than that. Yu refuses to leave. Crowley mutters that he is beginning to get bored and decides to kill Yu. Guren tells Yu that he has a plan, but Yu needs to leave. Yu does not listen and demands even more power from Asuramaru.

Angered at his lack of capabilities

Asuramaru is delighted to help, especially now that the protection from the drug has completely worn away. Yu's desires overwhelm him, and half of his face darkens and a horn sprouts from his head as he becomes a demon. Yu enjoys the power. Crowley says that Ferid always makes interesting things happen. He says that Yu is so lively and full of energy that he wants Yu's blood now and mentions he may drink Yu dry the next time he gets close.

Noting Kimizuki and the Devil's Coffin behind

Yu challenges Crowley again. He hears telling Kiseki-o to begin the count to nine until the devil's coffin opens. After Kiseki-o gets to four, Yu invites Kimizuki to kill this bloodsucker together, but Kimizuki notices Yu's horn. Guren warns Kimizuki that Yu has been possessed and to grab him and run. Yu tells Guren to shut up now that he has the power to rescue him. Kimizuki tells Yu that what he said before was right. In this screwed up the world, there's no point to living if you don't have a family to cling to. He then says that's why it's his turn to rescue him. Kiseki-o finishes the countdown and captures Yu with the devil's coffin. Kimizuki joins with the rest of their squad while Kiseki-o begs to kill Yu, who is in his coffin. Kimizuki orders him to only knock out the demon inside of Yu. He orders Kiseki-o to spit him out and catches Yu in his arms.

Claimed by Mika

Yu remains unconscious throughout Mika's confrontation of Moon Demon Company and remains so when Mika flees with him. In Yu's mind, Asuramaru approaches him. He says that he is really starting to like Yu and praises Yu's honesty about his desire. He says that Yu is broken and does not distinguish between good and evil when it comes to protecting his family. Yu asks Asuramaru about what happened which the demon says he only knows what he saw through Yu's eyes. He offers power to Yu, but he turns down his offer this time.

Asked what about his other family

Asuramaru says Yu's friends are weaklings who will only drag him down and weaken him again. Yu says everything will work out as long as he is with his friends. They argue, and Asuramaru says he will fail no matter how hard he tries. Yu says he is going to work with his friends to save Guren, but Asuramaru asks about the other family member who came to visit Yu today before waking up.

Yu finds himself in a ruined convenience store and hears panting at the other end of the isle and sees Mika. He calls out to him. Mika mutters about human blood and attacks him, not able to recognize Yu and throwing him to the ground. He calls Yu a human and tells him not to resist. He screams about he pain and begs for blood. Yu stares at him, confused, but tells Mika to drink his blood. Mika jumps on top of him, pinning him to the ground. As Mika is about to bite him, Yu apologizes for having left him behind which causes Mika to snap out of his blood lust and quickly moves away from Yu.

Concerned for Mika's wellbeing

Yu asks him about his thirst and says it's his fault for leaving Mika behind. Mika says he already told Yu it was not Yu's fault. Yu begins crawling toward Mika, but Mika tells him to stay back. He does not want to drink blood, but Yu wants to alleviate Mika's suffering. Mika says to not worry about it and says there is something he must tell Yu. Yu grabs onto Mika and says he does not care. He says that Mika looks like he is about to die and asks if drinking blood will heal him. He offers his blood for a second time, pulling open his shirt collar. Mika tells him to stop, saying that Yu is making it difficult to resist. Yu focuses only on what he has to do to save Mika and says he does not want to watch Mika die again.

Trying to persuade Mika

Mika says he has yet to drink human blood since he will not be able to turn back and will forever be an immortal and ageless vampire. Yu turns the words around and asks if drinking his blood means Mika will not die. Yu asks Mika for a favor, but Mika rejects him before Yu can even say what that favor is. They argue. Yu finds it acceptable to turn Mika into a true vampire, but Mika says he refuses to become a monster. Yu says that Mika should live for his sake, even if he has to crawl through the mud to do it.

Mika is still family no matter what he is

Tired of this conversation, Mika says there is something he must tell him, but Yu responds by covering his ears and saying he cannot hear him. He says he will only listen if Mika drinks his blood first. Yu takes some broken glass and cuts open his wrist. He refuses to let Mika die. Mika calls him a jerk, and Yu says he is the one who took that cruel jerk and told him he was family. Mika calls him the worst and says it will be his fault for becoming a monster. Yu says that drinking a little blood is not enough to turn Mika into a monster. He says they are still family, no matter what Mika is. Mika begins crying. Yu offers his blood for the third time, holding out his bleeding wrist. Mika tackles him in a hug and bites into his neck, and Yu welcomes Mika home.

Mentioning what Guren said

After drinking, Mika apologizes. Yu says it did not hurt much. Then, Yu notices Mika's eyes change color. Mika blames Yu for turning him into a monster, so Yu tells him to growl or something then. Mika says surviving by drinking blood from his own family is not normal, and he is a failure as a human. Yu says he is fine if he is not normal. He says Guren took him in and told him to live, even if his only reason was for revenge. Guren said Yu might find someone who would need him again, and he found Mika. Yu says he does not care if Mika is a vampire now, and he will find a way to change Mika back if Mika ever gets sick of it. He tells Mika to never try to go off and die again, and Mika states that he is the one who is supposed to save Yu. Yu says he is stronger than he used to be causing Mika to laugh.

Fine with being used by family

Mika says Guren is probably just using Yu, but Yu says he does not care if either Guren or Mika want to use him. Mika sees this as too risky and says he will never use Yu. Yu points out that Mika just drank his blood. He says Mika may drink however much he needs in exchange for helping him rescue his new family. Mika warns him against the Demon Army and draws his sword against Yu when Yu insists on finding his family. Yu states he wants to rescue his family, and Mika is obligated to help him. He says he would rather die than be unable to save his family. Mika reveals that the girl with the scythe saved them, and Mika agrees to save only those four.

Seeking to help his squad

Yu volunteers to drive to meet with them, but Mika decides to drive instead. Mika informs Yu about the Seraph of the End Project, the Hyakuya Orphanage, and how the Demon Army is now redoing the same experiment which caused the end of the world eight years ago. Mika invites Yu to run away with him, and Yu agrees to talk it over with the others since Mika is so set on them. He tells Mika that Mika can trust the others as much as he trusts Yu. Mika says he does not see that happening.

Reminding that he is human

Mika and Yu continue to drive to Nagoya Airport, and Mika once again tries to talk Yu out of it. Mika states that the human named Shinoa is no friend of his. Yu retorts that they have already settled the matter, but Mika says he does not realize how terrible humans can be. Yu reminds Mika that Yu is a human. Mika says he went overseas a few times to destroy human cults who were experimenting on the Seraph of the End. A flashback shows an emaciated Seraph child with wings for arms confined in fluid with an oxygen mask. It begs Mika to kill it, to "kill this ugly thing I've become."

Discussing plans and what they could do

In the present, Mika states that the Demon Army is the worst of them by far. Yu asks Mika what they should do as an alternative, and Mika they should get away from the Demon Army. Humans across the globe are after the Seraph of the End experiment, and experimental subjects like them would only cause trouble for Shinoa. Yu agrees and wants to at least check on Shinoa and the others from afar. After that, he and Mika will take off. If Yu's friends are safe, then they can plan how to rescue Guren. Mika immediately turns the suggestion down but soon gives in when Yu begs. He says he may be able to do something if Guren is still alive. Overjoyed, Yu repeatedly asks Mika how until he annoys Mika enough for Mika to tell him to shut up. Mika says Yu has not changed since they were children. Mika says the vampire queen kept him as a pet of sorts, and they can ask her for help. When Yu asks if she can be trusted, Mika says she does not know but will at least listen to them. Yu asks Mika who she is to him, and Mika says she is the one who saved his life. On that note, Yu immediately says they can trust her. Mika asks if Yu has any brain cells in his head at all, and Yu says it was only thanks to her that they could see each other again.

Yu reappears just in time to save Shinoa from Kureto's attack. He and Mika step into the fray, surprising Shinoa Squad and Narumi. Mika points out that humans are killing humans and tells Yu they should not have come here, but Yu disagrees. Yu asks Shinoa for orders. She issues a retreat. The survivors all request to be backup for the rear guard, but Mika says he can block chains at that speed on his own. Yu chides Mika on teamwork. When Mika asks Yu if he expects him to trust humanity after seeing them sacrifice their own soldiers like that, Yu says that he is only telling Mika to trust him.

Fighting through the army and vampires

Chains erupt out of one of the trucks. Mika, Yu, and Kimizuki block them. In the midst of the battle between the humans and vampires, Yu flees with the Shinoa squad, Narumi, and Mika while Shinya and the Ichinose Squad cover them. As he is running too far ahead of everyone, Yu sees Guren greet him before the lieutenant colonel suddenly swing his sword at him which is intercepted by Mika.

In spite of Mika and Shinoa's insistence to leave Guren, Yu races towards him while Guren is in the middle of gaining control of the Sixth Trumpet, Mirai Kimizuki. He swings at Guren, but he hesitates and instead demands Guren to explain what's going on. Yu then asks if they were Guren's family which the latter seems to confirm by whispering for Yu to run with tears in his eyes before immediately delivering a deep wound to Yu. Yu is holding onto consciousness as he is carried by Mika and approached by Krul. With Yu secured, she tells Mika to come with her, but Yu insists on saving Guren.

When the two disagree with each other, Yu appears face to face with Asuramaru within his mind along with the trumpet from before resting between them. Asuramaru scolds Yu for being so greedy and says he does not have enough power to give them. He calls Yu a traitor and says Yu is betraying him by taking up that trumpet. He says that is the worst decision he could make and says that will erase what is left of Yu's humanity. Yu answers that he does not really care as long as he can protect his family. He blows into the trumpet and is consumed by a massive power that splits the clouds.

Immediately after, Yu violently awakens into his seraph form, the King of Salt, with two wings instead of one now. He flies out of the way of a blast from Abaddon, a demon summoned to possess Mirai, before declaring that the end has come, that tainted humans who dare reach for the forbidden now shall become pillars of salt. Yu then blocks another attack from Abbadon before creating a sword (spear in the anime) to slice the demons' form.

Facing his demon as the King of Salt

Asuramaru then appears in front to Yu to remind him that he does not desire human deaths. When Yu asks who the demon is, Asuramaru addresses him as an angel when telling him to be silent. Speaking to Yu within the seraph, Asuramaru says he will help control and contain the seraph if Yu draws his sword to become a full demon. The seraph orders Asuramaru to be silent and says that humanity sees its end today. With goading by Asuramaru, Yu slowly grabs his cursed gear despite the angel's protests, and a pair of horns sprout from his head. He shouts that he is going to save his family and stabs himself through the chest with his own sword. Rendered unconscious, Yu plummets to the ground and is caught by Makoto before being taken away with him, the Shinoa Squad, and Mika.

After a three-month time skip, Mika checks on Yu, who is being held in a building, and asks Yu how he is feeling. Yu's wrists are chained to a wall in a barren room and he has a bowl by his foot. He still has horns and fangs. It seems that Asuramaru has complete control over Yu's body.

Post-Nagoya Arc

Still a demon and chained to the wall, Yu reacts to Mika’s presence and demands to be released. He insists that he’ll kill all of them.

He begs Mika to remove his chains, offering he will run away with him and offers his blood. When that fails, he yells at Mika and demands he removes the chains. Mika counts to 120 seconds, and Yu's horns disappear. He mutters about turning into a demon again and greets Mika. Mika states he became a demon for two minutes longer than the day before, which he has been doing since the battle at Nagoya. Mika frets and scolds Yu for becoming something inhuman and doing irrevocable harm to himself.

Shinoa states it has been exactly three hours since Yu transformed and greets them. She mentions it has been three days since Mika drank any blood, but Mika tells her he never asked her to be his keeper. Yu offers his blood, but Shinoa says Yu is too weak and has a bottle containing blood from everyone for Mika to drink instead.

Shinoa examines the chains and says the wards for sealing the demon are beginning to crack, so she and Mitsuba will have to repair them again. Mika accuses her of pretending to be Yu's friend and points out that everything that has happened to Yu has been due to an experiment. Yu says that Shinoa did not get directly involved, but Mika says he cannot trust any of them. Mika asks what Guren did to Yu.

Shinoa tells them they are not themselves when they are hungry and suggests they get breakfast. She holds the bottle of blood out to Mika, but he knocks it out of her hand. Mika appears frustrated, and Yu scolds him. Mika says he is not Shinoa's pet, but Yu says that blood belongs to their friends.

Yuu and Shinoa Squad prepare to fight Horsemen.

A human rushes in asking for help against the Horsemen that are attacking the village, so Yu joins in with this squad to fight the Horsemen to the villagers' gratitude.

Yu then goes to Mika to give him back the bottle of blood, telling him that does not have to drink that blood and can drink his instead. This gets Mika to drink the blood as he fears his worsening thirst would cause him to drink too much of Yu's blood. Yu asks if he is okay with something besides his blood, and Mika says that at least it was not poisoned.

With everyone gathered, Mitsuba summarizes what has been going on: the Japanese Imperial Demon Army will probably hunt them down and kill them, which puts the villagers at risk, they mention they cannot travel overseas because of how acidic and poisonous the blood-red oceans are with monsters even worse than Horsemen swim in their depths. With surrendering out of the question, Yu suggests meeting up with Guren, but Shinoa vetoes that idea and says they cannot trust him.

When asked to share any ideas, Mika suggests that they might be able to trust Krul Tepes, the vampire queen and his sponsor, who also participated in the Seraph of the End experiments. They would need to rescue her which, but it might be their least complicated option. Everyone soon decides to go with Mika's suggestion, so their next objective is to rescue Krul Tepes before Yu becomes a full demon. Yu asks about the best way to rescue to vampire queen as Krul was captured by Ferid. This has Yu recall the events with Ferid that has to lead up of Yu escaping. When assuming that Ferid is probably still alive, Mika points out to him that he saw him back in Shinjuku, but Yu really did not notice Ferid at all as he was so overwhelmed to find out that Mika was still alive and too busy looking at him to notice Ferid.

Yu then notices a strange sound at the same time as Mika, which has the latter tell him that a human-like Yu should not be able to hear that. Mika asks if the demon's possession is advancing even while Yu is awake. Yu answers that it probably is and says his senses are sharper and that he feels a little stronger. Mika is concerned that Yu is really turning into a demon, but Yu blows it off and says that he can protect everyone better if he is stronger. Mika asks what the point is if Yu loses his humanity, but Yu says Mika can hear the sound, too. Since Mika is not human, Yu says this makes them the same.

Informed by Yoichi that its Ferid and Crowley, the squad decides to flee to spare the village. As they are running, Yu asks Mika about Ferid's strength, and Mika says he is probably the second most powerful vampire in Japan. Mitsuba asks if he is even more powerful than the red-haired one, who is a thirteenth progenitor. Makoto mentions that stronger vampires have higher progenitor rankings. Yu states that Ferid is a seventh progenitor, alarming the humans. Yu realizes that Ferid let Yu shoot him and escape to Guren on purpose. Yu considers that Ferid and Guren might have been in cahoots, but Yu pushes that thought away and says that Guren was crying. He recalls Kureto's comment about the Hyakuya Sect orphanages and wonders who is behind it. Since it looks like Kureto was still seeking information about it, Yu believes this was not his plan. He believes Guren could not be behind it either. He thinks about asking Ferid for more information.

Mika realizes Yu is thinking of something dangerous and advises him against it. He mentions going to Ferid's mansion when they were younger and says he still regrets it every day. Yu insists it was not Mika's fault. Kimizuki pats Yu on the back and tells them to quit talking and focus on running.

Mika will not be alone this time

As Kimizuki, Mitsuba, Shinoa, and Yoichi fight Crowley, Yu and Mika agree that they cannot win. Mika advises escaping before they get dragged into whatever Ferid is scheming because there is nothing they can do. Yu wants to stay. He says that every time he runs, his friends and family die. He wants to fight fate. Mika blames himself for doing that once and getting everyone killed, but Yu insists he gave them a future. Yu says they can all make it out alive.

Yu tells Crowley he is surrendering, but Crowley says he is actually not after anything in particular himself.

Ferid appears behind Yu and Mika and nearly drives over them. He jeers that he heard they were being attacked by a dangerous vampire, so he came to their rescue. He says he will save them if they take a ride with him, but Crowley says they already finished that part and surrendered.

Ferid acts shocked and asks when Yu and Mika became so reasonable. Yu explains why they will cooperate, and Ferid asks if that means he will forget everything Ferid has done to them. When Yu agrees… Ferid pulls Akane’s head from his trunk and asks if Yu can say that to her face.

Yu becomes a demon after seeing Akane's head

Yu turns into a demon, screaming that he will kill Ferid and attacks him. Yu never come close to hitting Ferid, but he manages to slice his fancy foreign car in half. Mika grabs Yu and tells him to calm down. Yu tells Mika to let go before he kills him. He struggles against his demon, telling it to stop while he keeps muttering about killing. Yu struggles against his demon, and Mika orders him to suppress it. Yu tells him to shut up and says he just needs more power. He contacts Asuramaru.

Asuramaru calls Yu a greedy namanari. When Yu asks what that is, Asuramaru explains it and says that this is the third time already. Yu mentions that his memories have been really spotty lately, and Asuramaru says that his human self does not want to deal with the memories of his demon self and hides them away. Asuramaru says that he could take three pills and not die because he is no longer human. Asuramaru asks Yu to let him take over for just an instant. He says he will not kill anybody, but Yu will want to kill all of his friends. Asuramaru says he only needs three seconds.

Yu tells Asuramaru to stop lying to him because he has his own will and knowledge. Yu says he will not become a demon, and Asuramaru asks if that is his human or demon side talking since they are now inseparable. Yu says he does not really care as long as he can protect his friends, but Asuramaru says demons have no friends or family and simply kill everything.

Yu says he supposes he cannot become a demon. When Asuramaru says taking those three pills will make his demon side grow exponentially, Yu shrugs it off, saying it is fine as long as he protects his friends. Asuramaru asks if Yu can hear how much he is contradicting himself.

Asuramaru cuts the conversation short, saying that, this once, Yu will not need the pills because he is about to be rescued by a vampire. Ferid struts toward Yu and Mika, and Mika gets between them, telling him to stay away. Ferid pulls out a filled syringe and asks if Mika will give Yu that dangerous, unstable drug instead. Mika attacks him, and Crowley intervenes, keeping Mika away from Yu.

Ferid says that Yu has grown cute and calls him an “extra-special guinea pig.” He says this curse-suppressant drug is the same drug Guren Ichinose is using. He says he met Guren before the catastrophe when he was just a high school student and received the drug directly from him. Yu demands answers. Ferid says he is cute and bites him on the neck, drinking his blood. He then stabs Yu in the back with the needle, suppressing the demon and putting Yu to sleep. Alarmed, Mika finally leaves Crowley to returns to Yu’s side. He tells Ferid he will never forgive him. Ferid mentions that he just saved Yu’s life as Yu’s blood trickles from his mouth. Mika says they are not going to be part of his plot, and Ferid asks if this is his plot.

Yu eventually wakes up and everyone is relieved to see Yu awake and okay. Mika tells him they are keeping Akane out of his sight. Shinoa says Ferid claims the Seraph of the End experiment was meant to revive the dead. Mika says to not trust him. Yu mentions that the drug appears to be working. Ferid says he has the bodies of the other orphans at his mansion, but he refuses to tell them where they are headed now. Yu says he will not believe a word Ferid says, but he will listen to what he says about Guren.

Ferid mocks Yu about always asking about Guren. The group takes a bathroom break. In the boys' bathroom, Yu rants about Guren taunting them with information but never giving them answers. They tell Yu to quit shouting. Yoichi mentions that Yu has started acting like his old self since he received that medicine. Yoichi says Yu had been acting colder since his demon took over.

They discuss their situation and the Seraph of the End. They decide they must betray Ferid before he betrays them. Mika tells them they are not capable of killing him. Yu mentions that Asuramaru may be able to kill Ferid if Yu lets him take control for three seconds, but Shiho says demons are even worse than vampires. Shinoa mentions they cannot trust a single adult still alive. They crouch together and whisper to come up with a signal of when to attack Ferid en masse.

Osaka Arc

At Osaka bay

The squad eventually gets back on the bus and are driven to Osaka Bay. When they get close to the destination, Crowley randomly makes an abrupt stop causing Ferid to fly through the windshield and Yu to hit his head. Everyone gets off and be greeted by an army of foreign vampires. Yu accuses Ferid of leading them into a trap, but is promptly warned by the silver-haired vampire to keep quiet or they all could end up getting killed.

After witnessing Ferid nearly turning into a demon when getting his heart ripped out by Lest Karr and then drinking directly from Kimizuki, Yu and the others return to the bus while Mika remains outside to gather information. At some point, Yu asks if they can leave since Ferid abandoned them, but is reminded by Makoto that they are surrounded by vampires.

Yu then offers to go outside to find meat for Kimizuki, which the latter responds by throwing a can at his head, saying he's fine. This is followed by everyone else telling Yu to stop fussing. Yu then turns his attention on Mika, worried about his safety and noting how he and all the vampires have red eyes. He continues to watch as Mika converses with Lucas and Rene about the vampires retaking Sanguinem.

Yu then notices Yoichi shocked fixation on Lucas and checks on him. Yoichi soon snaps out of it, saying he's fine and is going to take a nap which Yu agrees with. Shinoa then joins him, and Yu apologizes for getting her and everyone else tangled in this mess. Mika then draws Yu and Shinoa's attention to Ferid and Krul being dragged in by Urd and Lest. Yu and Shinoa are unsure of what to make of this. Ferid then sees them and waves at Yu, freaking him out and having Makoto warn him not to wave back.

Seeing Krul and Ferid captured

Yu then watches as Urd sentences Ferid and Krul to be tortured through sunlight exposure for ten days and having them bound to crosses. When he and Krul make eye contact, curse marks appear on his face and Yu finds himself with Asuramaru. Yu asks the demon if he is feeling his emotions, which Asuramaru responds that demons are not supposed to have emotions and doesn't know what he's feeling.

Crowley then comes in and tells Yu that he isn't going to save them right now and neither can he. Yu asks him what he is going to which Crowley responds by asking if Yu wants to save them. Yu stammers before asking Crowley if it hurts which the latter confirms. Mika then approaches the bus and asks what Yu is going to do, and after looking at Krul burning, Yu decides to save them. He asks Crowley if there is a way; the redhead answers that it would be through first taming the Seraph of the End, and they would have to go to Ferid's mansion.

With Crowley at Ferid's mansion

Crowley takes Shinoa squad to Ferid’s fifth personal estate in Osaka. Mika asks if Yu is okay, and Yu admits to feeling queasy. Yu says this place looks similar to the one in Sanguinem. Recalling how Mika gave Ferid his blood when they were growing up in Sanguinem, Yu says he should have been the one to give Ferid blood instead of Mika. Mika asks if he would rather Mika be the half-demon instead. Yu says no, and Mika says the two of them are even by now.

Mika asks Yu if he is sure he wants to save Ferid and asks if he can forgive him. Yu says Ferid could bring Akane back to life, but Mika reminds him that Ferid cannot be trusted. He says that if Guren really brought his squad back to life, then the experiment results in the destruction of the world. Mika asks what the price would be if they brought Akane back this time. He advises Yu to not be greedy and want more than what he already has, or else Yu may become a demon like Guren.

Helping Mika against Fuola Honte

Tenth Progenitor Fuola Honte then appears from the mansion and attacks them. Fuola cuts off Mika’s arm off. Alarmed, Yu rushes forward while activating Asuramaru’s power to the breaking point, and ignores Mika’s warning to stay back. Yu blocks the attack and struggles to push it back until Shinoa uses Shikama Dōji’s manifestation to grab them and pull them away from Fuola. Crowley then steps out of the mansion and saves the squad by killing Fuola. The group comments on Crowley’s strength. Crowley then spars against the squad and reveals his strength is at the level of a seventh progenitor.

When Mika gets Crowley to reveal that was all due to Ferid’s scheming, Mika repeats that Ferid cannot be trusted. Crowley says he agrees that dealing with Ferid is a pain in the ass, and he suggests they forget about rescuing them. Yu says they already decided to rescue him and says he has things he needs Ferid to tell him. He says he also owes the queen for saving his family. Since they have decided, Crowley tells them they must get stronger quickly since they had difficulty fighting a tenth and must face a fifth progenitor, Ky Luc, in order to rescue Ferid and Krul.

Yu gets mad at Crowley for not telling him he used to be human but Crowley doesn't see the point in telling him. Yu follows Crowley into Ferid's mansion as the rest of Shinoa Squad wonder why he is being so friendly with a vampire, and Mika says its because he is dumb. Yu continues to lecture Crowley but Crowley focuses on a riddle from Ferid. Yu swings at Crowley from behind but Crowley easily blocks the attack and throws his sword into the ceiling. Crowley tells Yu that he is fast but his technique is not. Crowley once again blocks Yu's attack and Yu asks if he trained in swordsmanship. Crowley claims he did when he was human and reveals he used to be a crusader that fought for god, but Yu does not know history so he does not understand.

Yu claims there's something wrong with former humans killing humans but Crowley does not see his point because nothing kills more humans than humans. He tells Yu that he has killed more humans as a crusader than as a vampire. He asks Yu to solve Ferid's riddle and Yu quickly gets the answer is a candle. Shinoa Squad enters the mansion looking for food and Crowley directs them into the kitchen. He realizes it is almost time for Mika to drink but, Mika shakes his head. Crowley tells them they will go into the basement after they eat. Yu asks what down there, but Crowley says he will tell them after they eat.

Holding the jar with Akane's head

After everyone gets done eating, Crowley reveals to everyone that what is down in the basement are the bodies of their loved ones, and he fears of Yu going berserk and accidentally destroying the bodies. Yu argues with him and Makoto that about wanting to see his family again, and eventually asks Yoichi to give him Akane's head. Seeing her, Yu apologizes to the her for running away by himself and promises to bring her back to life. When warned by Mika of the dangers that promise would do to the world, Yu declares that he doesn't care about the world and will sell it to turn Mika back into a human and save everyone.

Pleased Guren is back

Taken down into the basement, Yu cries upon seeing the body of Taichi where is comforted by Mika. He then hears a roar outside, and then minutes later when hearing someone come down the stairs gets ready to attack. Upon seeing that its Guren, Yu frantically asks if its really him in control which earns him a pound on the head by an annoyed Guren and a confirmation for Yu that it really is Guren. He then listens to Guren's reveal on how the Hīragi Family are pawns to another being such as having the Hīragi struggle against that being. Something then catches Yu and Shinoa's attention before the former notices the latter's discomfort. Later on, Yu and his squad mates stop Mika from attacking Guren, and listen to Guren's plan on resurrecting the people that died in the apocalypse.

Happy with other's plans

Learning that Guren's plan involves him, Yu agrees to go with in spite of Mika's protest. At night, after Yu helps Guren carry the latter's teammates into one the mansion's bedroom, he asks and sympathizes with Guren's plight in having to keep secrets from his teammates. Yu then learns that his role in Guren's plan requires him learning to control the seraph by repeatedly take a drug that will make the seraph go berserk until he learns to control it. Just as Yu requests Guren to not tell Mika, the blond vampire reveals that he overheard everything. Yu is next seen in his seraph form bursting through the roof which wakes up Guren's Squad before returning to normal and not remembering what happened earlier. His training lasts three days, and during that time, he listens to Guren's plan on rescuing Krul and Ferid where his role is to kill Ky Luc.

Fully in control of the seraph

Three days later, Yu leaps at Ky Luc the same time as Yoichi firing Gekkouin. After a couple of more attacks from the other squad members, Yu attacks Ky again but now as a seraph to give Guren the opportunity to attack the vampire. Yu then takes a stab to the chest from Ky meant for Guren, but the wound regenerates quickly, and with his time limit in controlling the seraph running out, he contemplates whether or not he should risk using the second dose of medicine. However, with Ferid rescued, Ky chooses to flee and takes Krul with him, ending the fight. Yu collapses with Mika and his squad coming to him.

Partially demon and seraph

In his mind, Yu's body under the drug puts him in much strain, and thus does not notice Asuramaru until the it wears off. Yu mentions Asuramaru is upset about the drug, which slows down his demonic transformation, and inquiries what the demon would do if he possessed him. Asuramaru tells Yu he is looking for someone, and he offers to help. Asuramaru then explains to Yu about a buried childhood memory he found, which depicted his talk with Mahiru Hīragi when he was with the Hyakuya Sect.

Outside the fluid filled tank

Yu awakes to Mika calling him, and finds that he is chained inside a liquid-filled container with tubes attached to his body, and his right side has one wing. After Mika releases Yu from the container, he learns that everyone is asleep, and the two argue over if Guren is good or not. Yu peaks into a room to see others trapped in containers like him, but insists that Guren has good reasons for it. They bicker again, and ends with Yu saying that his demon controls him like Guren's demon, too.

Settled on getting their family back

Yu then declares he will do anything to get his family back, that the end justifies the means, and regrets never telling Akane that they were family. Yu and Mika then shake hands. Yu and Mika are then approached by Guren. Guren takes them to a barrier, and asks if they remember anything the Hyakuya Sect did to them. Yu answers that while his memories were erased, he vaguely remembers being in a cell and meeting a girl, however does not recall who she was.

Meeting another seraph

Despite Mika warning Yu not to follow Guren, Yu says they should, and insists he and Mika go together. They enter the barrier. In shock at seeing the Sixth Trumpet, Yu asks what this he is, but then asks about himself instead. Yu quickly summons his trumpet and steps into the barrier.

Deflecting projectiles

When the Sixth Trumpet realizes that Yu is the King of Salt, he asks why Yu did not destroy the world. Yu requests for the Sixth Trumpet to put down his trumpet, and but is told that humanity must be eliminated. The angel calls Yu a traitor and sends Horsemen at him. Yu deflects them with his trumpet, and slashes the Sixth Trumpet's chains. Yu repeats that he will save him. However, the Sixth Trumpet states that he'll be the one saving Yu, to remind him of his "true mission".

Horsemen rising

The Sixth Trumpet blows his trumpet, and more Horsemen rise up from the ground. Yu exchanges his trumpet for his sword and cuts them apart. The Sixth Trumpet says that Yu's weapon can't damage his trumpet, but the trumpet gets nicked, which causes an explosion. With the Sixth Trumpet now in the air, Yu manifests his wings and they take it to the sky.

Engaging the Sixth Trumpet

As Horsemen emerge on the mountains, Yu shouts at the Sixth Trumpet to stop blowing his trumpet, saying humanity has suffered enough, and asks if being punished even more is necessary. The Sixth replies that they have committed a sin that cannot be forgiven, but Yu counters that he and others alive have done nothing to deserve this. The Sixth Trumpet claims that Yu's existence is forbidden and must be destroyed, and attacks him. Yu demands more power from Asuramaru, who asks why he wants to save a stranger such as a the Sixth Trumpet. Yu responds that he is an angel like him, and then realizes that the Sixth has a demon. Once Asuramaru notices it himself, Yu convinces him to keep hanging on longer.

Rescuing the seraph host

Yu sees his squad in the forest and calls to Kimizuki, ordering him to give the drug he has been using to the Sixth Trumpet. When Kimizuki is concerned about Yu's power output, Yu says he is going to save everyone and live. As the battle continues, both of Yu's sclera turn black, hands grow claws, and now has four wings instead of two. The Sixth repeatedly demands Yu to die, and Yu eventually tackles the angel, pining him down. Mika deflects the trumpet from attacking Yu, and Kimizuki injects the Sixth Trumpet with the drug. Kimizuki and Yu catch Sixth after he falls. Though unsure if the seraph is alive, Yu celebrates their victory, and the squad meets up after.

Shibuya Arc

Apprehended

In their own search of demon army premises to turn Mika back into a human, Yu ends up bound with rope.

Yu calls to Shinoa who is currently undergoing the transformation into a vampire. He is pushed away by Kureto and told to get lost and watches as Shinoa is removed to an examination room. Yu asks if Kureto can save her blaming himself as Shinoa let that monster possess her to save him. He confirms with Kureto that he met that thing, that it knew him and Asuramaru from some time ago. Focusing only on helping Shinoa, Yu speaks candidly despite Mika prodding him to not hand out information that he is sharing for free.

Taken away for his memories

Though Yu does not remember anything, in order to save Shinoa he offers himself for examination to uncover potentially helpful memories. His offer is accepted, at once being taken away by Kureto's guards where Yu is verbally robbed of his freedom and declared an experimental subject. Yu accepts anything they want to do to him, so long as Kureto swears he will save Shinoa before being led away.

Yu from history is remembered by Urd Geales beside the first when he was alongside Rigr Stafford.

Back in the present, Yu struggles against the two guards taking him away. He demands they forget about him, and to promise to find a way to keep Shinoa from turning into a vampire. His sword has been taken as Yu tells them the monster knew them both from ages ago. and continues to protest as he is trailed by Mika.

Struck with a needle

He awaits on a stretcher with Yoichi, Mitsuba, Narumi with Kimizuki nearby as they hear what sounds like a battle. Yu asks what nearby scientists are waiting for, shouting that he is supposed to have info on that monster buried in his memories. He tells them to hurry up, as if that thing takes over Shinoa it will be too late. Aware of the electrical needle being moved towards his neck, Yu reassures Mitsuba who has remained behind with him that he will be fine and that she should go be there for Shinoa. Yu firmly tells the scientists to go ahead, he needs to remember what he knows of that monster so he can go save Shinoa before having the needle stabbed into the back of his neck and his eyes change dramatically. Unconscious, he is unable to help Mitsuba who has been attacked by the very scientist helping unlock Yu's memories. Revealed to in fact be a member of the Hyakuya Sect, Yu is taken to a new area via a tear in reality. In his mind with Asuramaru, Yu lays on the ground with two spears in his back as he faintly tries to remember.

Transported as Saitō battles the first

Unconscious, Yu is brought by the agent before Saitō who orders him to be taken to their lab in Ikebukuro. With the Hyakuya Sect's attack on Shibuya in full swing, in the north ward of the city Yu is chained and being transported on a stretcher. He wakes up to witness the fight between Saitō and Shikama Dōji who is inside Shinoa's body. Noting the explosions he asks why is he tied up, he cannot get them off. Addressing those pushing him along he asks where are they taking him as he continues to be wheeled though the streets of Shibuya with his sword transported on another stretcher nearby.

Continuing to shout on whether they are listening to him, Yu repeats that they untie him. He is pleased to see Guren appear and dispatch his kidnappers. Requesting him to cut him loose, Yu then notices Guren's prominent horns and asks if he has turned into a demon. He is going to worry and asks if Guren is alright. Calling to be cut loose again, Yu has his mouth binded.

With Mika facing Guren and his demons

Able to see Noya materialize, Yu mumbles before being freed by Mika. He immediately calls his sword to him and stands battle ready beside Mika. Smiling, Yu asks Mika what is going on here and replies that Guren is a friend. Not registering any danger on account of Guren always being on their side in the end, Yu is instead moved into action when he hears from Mika of a pre-arranged plan that involves running away.

In favour of the plan to escape

Aware that their opponents are attacking, Yu agrees to run so as not to ruin the plan before noticing and asking who the girl floating towards them is. Asking Mika if she is someone they know since she knows his name, Yu's memories of being kept in prison at five years old return. Clutching his head, Yu remembers they have met before. He also remembers that he did find a reason to live as he takes Mika's arm and declares that he has him. With a family that loves him now, for Yu there has only ever been one correct answer as he calls on Asuramaru to give him power, every last drop he has got.

Having found a reason to live

A demon horn appears before Yu shouts to Guren that he has to run now but will come back to save him before he moves to block Guren's sword. Surprised by the magnitude of it, Yu is hurled backwards from the impact and comments at how stupid strong Guren is now. Agreeing with Mika that they cannot get separated, Yu reaches for him and manages to take his hand for them to crash land together. Rather than Guren's newfound power, Yu's mind is brought back to running away with Mika.

Attacked by demon Guren

Yu and his sword are in Noya's mind, meanwhile Yu is willing his legs to keep running until they fall off. Running straight into Guren who has landed in front of him, Yu's reaction to the sword aiming for his neck is to think he is dead. Shouting Mika's name when he endures the sword for him, Yu right away follows what he says to do and jumps backwards as hard as he can. Holding Mika tight, Yu takes them both through the other side of a building to escape.

Running and carrying Mika

Carrying him, Yu curses aloud in panic stating that they are in trouble before asking Mika what do they do now. Worried about with the cursed gear injury to Mika's back, Yu follows his guidance to hide as he suggests a building somewhere. Concerned with Mika's healing, Yu states he is going to keep running and for Mika to drink his blood simultaneously. Commenting on why it has to feel so good having his blood sucked, Yu also remarks that it makes him sleepy but he has to stay awake. Running up the stairway in a building, Yu has to push Mika off him with the amount of drinking occurring. Hearing that his blood does indeed taste really good, Yu tells Mika he does not need to apologize before asking about his back.

Drawing upon his demonic sword's power

Although he feels drained now, Yu feels it is fine since he can just let his demon loose a little more to make up for the blood loss. With how powerful Guren was, if he does not then he will get them eventually. Without a choice Yu has curse marks appear as he inwardly asks Asuramaru for more power. Wanting to know who Noya is, from the horns Yu observes he is a demon then asks if he is Guren's demon. Advised to get away, Yu would would to do that but needs lots more power. If Asuramaru does not take him over then Yu will be way more powerful and he uses the presence of Noya as leverage for him to be granted that power without Asuramaru taking over, or he will get caught by Noya. Clarifying that he is not threatening Asuramaru, Yu is just trying to trust him and is certain that they are friends who help one another. The frazzling energy around Yu's feet increases exponentially as Yu is granted his request and transformed into a demon.

With fanged teeth and two large horns Yu continues his yelling before falling on his back and gripping his head. He then vanishes and is found unresponsive through the ceiling with just his legs showing before replying to Mika in demon sounds. Remaining idle whilst Guren arrives Yu's face turns to see Noya who has broken into the upper floor of the building. He responds with Asura-Kannon, thousand blades when Noya reveals an intent to remove his head, and says for Noya to end this as many swords appear through the floor to repel Noya. When that attack is fended off, Yu speaks for a second Asura-Kannon, Knot of fate which results in a large compact oval surrounding the building with a greater amount of katanas.

Possessed and wielding specialized powers

Yu pulls Mika up, and his right eye moves independently to the left with Yu now only in control of half of his body. Not reacting to Guren smashing through a wall, Yu is telling Ashera loudly to protect him and Mika by running. Yu is visualized as a child with Mika in Sanguinem as he is saying that Mika is family. Activating Asura-Kannon, infinite phantom blades, Yu is prepared to fight. Two empty sheathes appear at Yu's sides he calls for them to be drawn.

Although mostly parried, the invisible swords manage to leave a scratch on Guren, and Yu has the two shimmering sheathes ready again. Activating the knot of fate power, Yu fills the sky around the building with a ring of spectral weapons. Motioning to end this, the drawn swords perforate Guren's body. He answers Mika that he did not get him since it felt wrong and then sees the object the swords struck is a spell tag that has broken.

Stabbed by Mahiru-no-Yo

A spell tag is attached to his back by the real Guren and Yu is affected by the binding power, powerless against the needle being aimed towards his neck. Defended by Mika against this, Yu is then stabbed through his heart from a sword thrown into his back by Mahiru-no-Yo. Effected by the syringe, Yu feels this is bad with his power draining away and focuses on trying to repair his heart. Yu turns to Mika worriedly stating that his consciousness is all the way back. With Guren pulling the sword out of him to attack Mika, Yu tries to intervene but cannot move having to finish healing his heart first. Telling Mika to stop having his weapon drink his blood, Yu can only watch as Mika carries out his plan for Guren.

Attempting to save Mika

Falling through the sky reaching for Mika, Yu is crying. On the ground he is holding Mika's body that has been cut with his lower half missing, and tries to have him respond. He does not know what to do as he sobs that this cannot be happening. With Mika stirring, Yu asks what is happening to him as blotch like markings appear on his face. Hearing Asuramaru tell him that Mika is too drained of blood, Yu shouts for Mika to drink hard enough to kill him. When that does not come to pass, Yu tearfully asks why Mika is not doing anything and hears that he is too far gone.

Not believing it, Yu implores Asuramaru to tell him how to save Mika, that he will do anything he wants and does not care what happens to himself. Yu cries that he does not want to be alone, not like this again and continues to beg Asuramaru to save Mika. Yu continues to hold him as Krul arrives.

Witnessing Mika raised into the air

Seeing the energy dissipate around Mika, Yu cries as he asks Mika what he is supposed to do. Yu calls for somebody to help him, it does not matter if it is god or the devil, they can even kill him so long as they save Mika. Increasingly alarmed at Mika rising into the air, Yu shouts for him to stop.

Silent in his mind, Yu ignores Asuramaru and sternly tells the demon to shut up. Told that Mika's life force has vanished, and no matter how much he lets his greed and power go berserk, there will be things he just will not get. Yu repeats his order and questions whether Asuramaru wants him to kill him, because he will. Sorrowful, Yu answers that he does not want to be alone and to never feel this bad ever again. Stating that he wishes he could disappear forever, Yu affirms that he is a stupid monster that cannot save anyone, solidifying the notion further as he recalls his mom and dad even said so.

Wanting to disappear

Confirming that he wants to die, Yu listens as Asuramaru explains how without a reason to live Yu's smiles and laughs were all empty from the start. With the topic of Yu's body being available for possession brought up, Yu smiles at that and feels useful. Apologizing, Yu says he did not mean to be so weak and picks up on Asuramaru saying that strong humans do not exist since humanity has never really needed to be strong. Hearing that it is not his fault, Yu fondly questions whether it is okay for him to die and after clarifying that Asuramaru would be happy to take over his body, Yu then asks Asuramaru to kill him, he is tired.

Remembering Mika's words

Stood with a sword at his neck, Yu closes his eyes, says sorry and then goodbye to Asuramaru. Quizzically, Yu hears that Mika said something at the end, and remembers when he and Mika were younger. Hearing from Asuramaru that Mika loved him and gave his life to give Yu a reason to keep living causes Yu to cry out in anguish. His distress is only reduced when Yu is told to open his eyes and watch Mika die to give him a reason to live, specifically to watch closely with his eyes wide open.

Post-Shibuya Arc

Reaching for Mika high above, Yu shouts for him not to leave, he does not want to be alone. Yu calls Mika's name before witnessing an explosion as he reaches and calls to him.

Yu is seen as a child

What appears to be Yu as a child in casual clothes is sat beside young Mika in a field of grass with a cloudy sky above. Asking Mika what is wrong, Yu says that Mika was drooling and reasons Mika's thinking that he was sleeping since they were up super late playing Othello together last night. Stretching as Yu mentions that he is real sleepy too, Yu offers his hand to Mika and says for them to go home. If they take too long the kids will start whining that they are starving.

With Akane playing ball with some other children nearby, Yu again asks Mika what is wrong with him appearing confused. Hearing he may have had a nightmare Yu questions what was it about. Wondering if monsters were chasing Mika, Yu has his hands taken by Mika as it is explained to him before he asks whether they were zombies. Replying that ghosts are the scariest, Yu states that Mika had better not wet the bed tonight thinking about it. He adds that Mika should not seriously wet Yu’s own bed when Mika jokes about that. Glancing at something else as Mika calls for everyone to head home for curry, Yu adds that he was the one who made it. Told he just cut the potatoes Yu insists those are the most important part. After Akane mentions that Mika was asleep for two hours, Yu stretches as he confirms this and repeats that he is super sleepy. Announcing that after dinner he will head straight to bed.

With Mika and other family members

Holding hands with a family member they head home. At a building resembling the Hyakuya Orphanage, Yu calls for whether everyone is sitting down and looks eagerly at the food. After saying thanks for it he begins to eat. Questioned by Mika on what happened to the director this Yu is unsure of who Mika means. Asking Mika what is wrong when he resumes eating without another word, Yu then explains to another child that they cannot play cards after dinner since he was up late last night playing Othello with Mika and is really tired.

After bathing and then brushing his teeth Yu joins the family in the sleeping area and yawns how tired he is, tired to death after today. Despite that Yu is told he looks after everyone really well. Described on how he has changed, Yu listens how he acted like a demon in the figure of speech sense since when he first arrived he felt he could not be anyone's friend or family. After Mika continues to joke that Yu cried and whined all the time Yu turns over and rejects that he cried. With it stated that now he acts like the mom of their whole family Yu questions why he has to be that. Asked if he wants to be the dad instead he replies for Mika to "shaddap".

Listening as Mika speaks of how it is the greatest that they are all together, still alive and healthy Yu replies who Mika is calling stupid when he says that Yu is still saying all the stupidest things. Considering them being together happy and smiling everyday growing up soon they will be fifteen then twenty and whilst some of them may go their separate ways Yu and Mika will always stick together. With Mika thinking on such matters and their lives Yu asks what has gotten into him. He matches what Mika says concerning being happy to the point of crying. Considering it a good point Yu adds that he thinks that sometimes too, almost everyday. Confirming that is the case, Yu states he was alone for a really long time but then met everyone. Most importantly he met Mika.

The child manifestation of Yu says it can grant Mika's desires

Not feeling alone anymore, Yu says he is sure it is going to come true. Clarifying what he is referring to Yu means what Mika was talking about living to a hundred and then two hundred. In response to Mika pointing out they are human Yu insists how he really means the whole living together thing. Grinning happily Yu states if that is Mika’s greatest happiness then he is sure it will come true. With Mika not so sure Yu affirms he will make it happen. If he wants then Yu will make it so they stay like this for a thousand years, together and the happiest ever. Mika cannot say for sure that they will not live to a thousand then Yu suggests doing that number of pushups everyday to achieve that.

Taking Mika’s hands into his own Yu assures Mika that he does not have to be scared anymore. He is here and Yu will be with Mika always. Denying that he will not ever leave Mika, Yu also assures him that nobody is going to die because they are all doing push-ups. Yu needs Mika to want to be here forever and accept that it is his greatest desire. The reaction to Mika tearfully interjecting the moment that this is all a dream Yu says for him not to worry, he can make it come true. With everyone sleeping in the room having died and where Yu himself could not be protected, this illusion of Yu hugs Mika as he despairs. Reassuring Mika, the demon pretending to be Yu says that he is here and will always be so Mika will be fine.

Answering that is fine when Mika speaks that he is tired, he says they will still be together for one, then ten thousand years before ending with forever. As Yu is used to explain that it possible here his hands are around Mika's waist where a black mold like substance spreads from them. If Mika really wants it and chooses to become a demon who devours human desires then he will be able to stay here with him inside a world of happiness. The illusion of Yu ends with stating that is what Mika and himself wants.

Not willing to leave Mika and hearing Krul

As energy is emitted from Mika in his transformation Yu holds onto a signpost to prevent himself from being blown away and calls to him. Grabbed by Krul he shouts he is going to stay with Mika and refusing to leave he attempts to walk. After he states that Mika would never kill them he turns to ask what Krul said about saving Mika. With her mentioning Asuramaru as a demon Yu is happy that Mika could turn out like that. Shouting to Mika that he promises he will save him no matter where in the world he is Yu is then taken away by Krul.

Escaping with Krul and seeing the squad

He does not hear the voice she is affected by but from her mentioning Ashera and possession Yu pieces together that Krul is Ashera's little sister. That means she is one of them and family now. Seeing Krul is not okay Yu speaks with Asuramaru to share the news of her presence and how he us under the impression that Mika is not really dead. Thrilled that Mika can become like Asuramaru he agrees they are to run then Yu can come back and save Mika. Asking for power Yu then picks up Krul and as he leaps Yu hears a car engine and notices his squad.

Describing the battle having escaped

Having left Demon Army territory Yu is in an apartment room and excitedly relaying how the battle with him and Mika against Guren went to Kimizuki. He also adds that Krul is sure everything will be okay and that she is Asuramaru's little sister. Unsure how Kimizuki could not understand what he is saying and hearing it is because he is speaking gibberish Yu replies that Kimizuki is just too dense to understand and agrees to step outside. Waiting for Kimizuki to check Mirai Yu is ready to battle when he is.

Sparring with Kimizuki

Exchanging sword strikes Yu knocks Kimizuki away and unconvincingly answers that he is not going easy on him. With Kimizuki feeling that he is insulting his capabilities Yu apologizes for being wrong and will be serious now. Yu is still able to almost KO Kimizuki with one hit and multiple ones brings him to his knees.

Pleased they can collectively become stronger

Surprised to see two demon horns emerge from Kimizuki's head Yu is further startled at two of Kiseki-o devil's coffins appearing in front and behind him. He deflects the projectiles fired out of them then remarks how Kimizuki got way stronger real fast. Replying that he is not dumb Yu is happy for Kimizuki's newfound power. Saying that they should keep training together Yu adds the stronger his friends are the better.

Asking about Krul

After a scream Yu returns to the apartment with Kimizuki concerned at what it is about. With Shinoa, Mitsuba and Yoichi sprawled on the floor Yu asks where Asuramaru's sister is. Turning to Kimizuki and saying that she is gone, Yu judges it super bad since Krul was going to teach him how to save Mika. Seeing her return in a change of clothes Yu asks Krul whether she just went outside and then why her hair is wet. In response to Krul stating that human children are such a pain, Yu says that she looks way more like a kid to him. Asked to guess her age, Yu disregards what Krul adds about its relation to vampire's strength to say that she is maybe three years of age and laughs.

Trying to pronounce Ashera's real name

Replying to Kimizuki that they are all friends, Yu explains that Mika was stuck in the vampire world and dying before Krul saved him. Not only that but she is Asuramaru's baby sister so that makes her the closest of close family. Hearing the correct name of "Ashera Tepes" Yu pronounces it as "Ashura Tapas" and replies he is not mispronouncing it on purpose.

Acquiring Mitsuba and Shinoa to carry

With Krul leaving due to the vomit from Shinoa and Mitsuba's direction Yu asks what that is and recognizes it as barf. Asking why the others did so and learning that the others had alcohol Yu says that he has never had any before. Since they feel sick Yu lifts and carries both Shinoa and Mitsuba and does not care if he gets messy since they are all friends.

Keen to hear how to rescue Mika

Saying that he is being serious when Kimizuki tells him to be so with Krul returning Yu stands before her and enthusiastically breaches how Krul was going to teach him how to rescue Mika. With his tone rebuked Yu remembers Guren training him and guesses that was who raised him and so the manners are his fault. Asked to prove that he really does want to save Mika he clarifies is Krul saying that he is not acting sincere enough. Accordingly Yu formally bows before the third progenitor. Apologizing for his behaviour Yu requests that she please teach him how to rescue Mika. He continues that Mika is his family whose life is more important than his own. That is why he needs to know and Yu resolves to beg Krul.

Imploring Krul for her help

Remaining low, Yu is then ecstatic to hear that Krul means to help rescue Mika. Yu asks whether he is not allowed to talk when ordered to be silent. Raising his hand high as one of the black demon weapon holders Yu hears that every faction in this conflict will be after them. He knows nothing about who his enemies are they are just trying to survive. All they do know is that they want to protect their family. Yu hears how Krul will give them a purpose, tell them their enemies and be taught what plan they are to put into action. He is surprised and comments on Shinoa's sister being involved and watches as Shinoa considers Mahiru.

Considered by demons

An imitation of Yu as a child appears in Demon Mikaela's world where he is used to comment how the others really did not want to go to sleep. Wide awake now he and child Mika watch over the sleeping kids from the Hyakuya Orphanage, while laying on opposite sides of one of the futons. After asking if Mika is hungry he excitedly suggests whether it is cup noodles time. As this Yu eats he does not react to Mikaela stood right behind Mika. When Asuramaru is questioned whether he is close to his human Yu is visualized happily calling Asuramaru his friend.

Drawn into a plan to get Mika before the First

Presently Yu listens to Krul's retrospection from eight years ago concerning her meeting with Mahiru. He is shocked at seeing Krul jump towards Shinoa with the intent to attack and shouts what is she doing. With Shikama Dōji revealed to be possessing Shinoa he shouts for Guren when he breaks through the window behind them. Confused after hearing that Guren wants to start a cursed gear rite to bind Mikaela into cursed gear to be attached to him Yu appears stunned at the news and there is a slight trace of terror in his expression. Clarifying that Mika is turning into cursed gear Yu gets it and is under the impression that Guren is doing this to save Mika. With Guren answering that is the case and it will save Shinoa as well Yu is joyful and asks if everyone heard that.

Happy Shinoa is okay

Shoved by Kimizuki and reminded that the Lt. Colonel killed Mika he feels Guren says they are going to turn Mika into cursed gear to save him. Yu is challenged to answer how that would count as saving Mika, it would just be turning him into a tool that they use. He observes as Kimizuki is enraged at Guren's actions enough to attack him as a demon. Pleased to see Shinoa alert, Yu asks if she is okay and places his hand on her shoulder. Listening as Guren shares his guilt over causing the catastrophe Yu along with squad are asked to help Guren.

In favor of resurrecting humanity

Excited at how awesome it is that Guren is going to resurrect all of humanity Yu is in favor of doing it before his attention is drawn to Shinoa. Hearing from Shinoa that Asuramaru is an enemy since he was ordered by Shikama Dōji to capture Mikaela's soul Yu closes his eyes to contact his demon. In Asuramaru's plane Yu calls for Asuramaru. Noting the large number of coffins about Yu comments how they look like the ones Kimizuki can create.

Calling Ashera who Shinoa warned was an enemy

When calling for Ashera yields no answer Yu shouts that Shinoa said he was on Shikama Dōji's side. Asking whether it is true Yu adds that Shinoa stated that Ashera was trying to attack Mika but Yu feels that cannot be true since Ashera is one of them. If Ashera does not answer Yu says he will assume that it is true. Pressing for a response Yu raises that Ashera must have reasons for it and that he promised they were friends. Wondering why Ashera is not answering Yu mentions that regardless of his reasons if Ashera touches Mika he is going to be super mad at him. With the possibility that Ashera is not listening Yu returns to angrily shouting if he can hear him.

Finding a spell circle being made on the rooftop

Running out to the building's rooftop carpark Yu shouts that Mika is in trouble and Shinoa was right. After adding that Asuramaru is not answering at all Yu pauses and asks Guren what he is doing. Having a writing utensil thrown at him Yu wonders what the spell circle being drawn is all about. Excitedly wanting to help Yu questions what should he do. Uncertain at what drawing the Western quadrant of a standard spell circle four entails Yu expresses pretend familiarity at the first one he learned back in his education. After recollecting the spell circle lesson in class Yu holds his head before announcing that he really should have studied the basics back then. Seeing that Yoichi feels similar Yu then wishes the others good luck as he observes the spell circle being completed.

Excited around Mika's sword

Recognizing Mika's sword drawn out of Mahiru he happily speaks whether Mika is in the weapon and stands near it with Kimizuki nearby. Unknown to him, in the world Mika is in, he and a being imitating Yu as a child are being threatened by Asuramaru. After telling Mika to run he follows Mika's lead to get the kids outside. Both Mika's deepest fear and desire was to be blamed for the deaths of their orphanage family and a visualisation of Yu holding Akane does this. The entity taking his form as a child awakens the other family members and sees a shadow of Mika with horns approach. The Yu's happiness to see Mika enter changes to uncertainty as Mika raises a knife.

Having heard Mika call him

Looking up from drawing a section of the spell circle Yu then calls to everyone and begins shouting that they have to hurry since Mika is in big trouble. Saying that he heard Mika call for him Yu addresses Kimizuki with Mitsuba nearby concerning the situation.

Intent on rescuing him

With Guren discussing the matter with Mahiru and Shinoa he says enough with all the talking. If Mika needs him Yu states he will go wherever he is. Awed by the spell circle being activated Yu is then struck with the writing utensil Guren has before finding the Lieutenant Colonel stood on top of him. On the ground Yu is happy to hear Guren announce they will save Mika.

Asking how they are going to do it, Yu wonders what he has to do to get to Mika. With Guren sure that Mika is a demon who has forgotten about him Yu objects since he was called by him. Hearing that he should tell himself that Mika will be memoryless like Asuramaru where if he loses Yu will be possessed, he raises whether that would be a good thing. If Mika takes over his body he can come back to life. A hypothetical scenario on whether Mika would want to go one with Yu gone, and if Yu would want to come back to life if it meant killing Mika results in Yu getting it, they take care of their family.

Resolving to come back alive

Understanding Guren telling him to take better care of himself Yu then hears from Yoichi not to forget that he is family to them too. After Mitsuba encourages him to not get possessed, Yu hears further that Shinoa might cry should he wind up dying and Kimizuki saying for him to get in there and subdue that demon. The group huddle ends with Yu vowing to come back alive.

Approaching Mika's sword

Approaching Mika's sword in the centre of the spell circle Yu asks Guren if he just has to draw it. Warned that Mika as the first's son will be more powerful than any black demon Yu replies for him not to worry. He is way stronger than before and has his family who are all worried about him. Announcing that it is time to go rescue him Yu says aloud for Mika to get ready since he is coming to save him before taking ahold of his sword.

Within the world Mika is in, the illusionary Yu as a child tries to get Mika to stop stabbing into the other children. As he is stabbed Yu's expression changes to anger as he speaks it is all Mika's fault and that he did this, which is what Asuramaru said was Mika's deepest fear and desire.

Breaking out of Asuramaru and reaching to demon Mika

Yu's voice is heard by Asuramaru who is stood around demon Mika with Gekkouin and Kiseki-o. Asking Asuramaru whether he is kidding him Yu questions why he is picking on 'his' Mika, and then whether Asuramaru wants to be killed by him. As Asuramaru continues with his actions Yu reminds him he said quit it and raises whether Asuramaru is trying to get kicked out of his family. Yu says if Asuramaru is going to pick on Mika then he is going to be seriously ticked with him. After Asuramaru's arm is severed off Yu himself ruptures out of his chest. Reaching towards Mikaela, Yu shouts he is here to save Mika and with his hand nearing Yu demands to know what the jerks did to him.

Judging Asuramaru the enemy

Demon Mika is taken away and Yu is knocked over by Asuramaru. Ordering him off Yu strikes Asuramaru away then demands to know what is wrong with him, he thought they were family. With there being reasons Yu orders Asuramaru to explain them, he has one second. Taking a moment to process that Mika was calling for help and specifically calling for him Yu concludes that Asuramaru is the enemy. Yu covers Asuramaru's mouth and will not listen to him deny it. Seized by him in turn Yu's eyes fill with curse marks. Facing him in a separate plane Yu does not react to a ring of fiery spell tags summoned around him.

A possession attempt

Faintly replying to Asuramaru's questions of what his greatest desire and fear is, Yu mutters his responses. Focusing on the greatest desire part Yu speaks that it is to save Mika. With Asuramaru deeming that a lie Yu ignores the claim that it is not what he wants more than anything else and repeats his wish to save Mika.

A demon backed by 3 seraphs

Unremitting and not engaging in Asuramaru's line of questions concerning the fixation on Mika, the spell tags around Yu burn away and demon horns appear out his head. With three seraphs behind him, Yu asseverates that he is going to save Mika and orders Asuramaru to get out his way, he cannot stop him. Standing over Asuramaru in the dream world Yu says there he has heard his greatest desire. Instructing Asuramaru as a demon to give him power Yu forcibly changes him into the cursed gear sword to wield.

Powered with desire

In the street Yu can feel the power inside. Right now, his desires have gone completely berserk, and it feels so good living for them. Having his sword sheathe conjured beside him Yu announces for his heart to shout that desire aloud and a bolt of lightning fills the sky. Yu appears behind Gekkouin and instantly slices his arm off. He evades the Thousand Arrows of Light power blasted at him but before he can respond Yu comes under attack from Kiseki-o.

Fighting Kiseki-o and Gekkouin

Seeing them both Yu stands in between Gekkouin and Kiseki-o who has swords and a glimmering coffin at his disposal. Speaking that there are two enemies at once Yu wonders aloud whether he can manage them. Smirking, Yu is sure he can kill them all. Noting the One Thread, One Glint created by Gekkouin, he throws himself backwards to avoid the strand directed at his face.

Wary of their attacks

Commenting that one was dangerous after witnessing its devastation on buildings Yu then notices the coffin descending to where he is stood. Remaining agile as he evades Kiseki-o's Coffins of Chaos that come crashing down on him Yu contemplates how he knows these coffins. He also heard Gekkouin's name spoken and considers who these demons are. With a One Thread, One Glint being prepared Yu thinks how he can dodge this.

Overcoming both demons

Noticing but not able to stop one of the coffins from clamping down on his left arm Yu reacts by immediately cutting it off to free himself. His arm has regenerated right away, and Yu informs Gekkouin that he is too slow before dismembering him at the neck and torso. Dropping before Kiseki-o and saying he knows these coffins Yu tells him he is not going anywhere. Slicing Kiseki-o in half, Yu then uses the coffin being reached for and calls for Kimizuki. Asking if he can hear him Yu warns that Kiseki-o and Gekkouin are both their enemies.

Tending to demon Mika

Kiseki-o and Gekkouin are down, and Yu reflects how his desires are growing out of control. It hurts and with him wanting to save Mika so badly it feels like his chest will burst. Looking to demon Mika before him Yu says he is here and asks if he did not call for him. With no response Yu reaches to hold demon Mika. Telling Mika it is okay Yu states no matter what happens or what is to come, the whole world could end tomorrow but everything will be fine. Placing his hand into demon Mika's chest Yu promises that he will save him.

Awakening in a Nagoya like location

After doing so Yu awakens in a different location lying on his back. Wondering where he is, Yu observes the sky and is surprised to see that it is red. Commenting how it almost looks like blood Yu considers whether it is sunset. Calling for Mika he announces he is here to save him. Looking around at the derelict city he is in Yu sees a particular building and knows this place. Recalling when he had Mika first drink his blood Yu is happy to recognize that this is where Mika came back to him. Entering the store Yu asks if Mika is in here and says he is going to find him. Physically, Yu lays unconscious on his side in the spell circle. Unbeknownst to him Kimizuki has addressed him as Octopus Face and Yu has his lips squished to supposedly show Yoichi and Mitsuba the resemblance.

Confused why he is not recognized

Calling out to Mika as he walks through the store, Yu turns in response to laughter and sees demon Mika behind him. Happy to see Mika but finding the demon is running away Yu asks him to wait up. Questioning if this is tag or something Yu tells Mika to quit it. Finding the demon atop Mika's sword, Yu happily greets him. Hearing the demon ask how he knows his name leaves Yu stunned. He recalls Guren informing him that Mika is a demon now so will not remember him, but Yu raises how if the being before him had forgotten him then he would not have picked this store. With that Yu says he remembers who he is.

Fighting so Yu is not possessed

Certain that the demon picked this place and not him, Yu reacts to the rules that demon Mika assumes he must know. Directed to hold still and let the demon devour him, Yu hears that as the demon is hungry and so he totally does not mind if he is to 'nom' on him. Remembering Guren speak how if Mikaela killed him to come back to life, and whether he would want to go on after Yu were gone, results in Yu altering his response. Determining that if he let the demon beat him then he would end up crying, Yu guesses he cannot let him win. Yu also promised everyone that he would come back alive too. Speaking for his sword causes the Asuramaru blade to materialize for Yu to arm himself. Saying how he is not going to let Mika eat him, Yu continues that he is going to make him submit instead.

Announcing his arrival

When attacked by demon Mika he can block the sword and deflect a sustained assault. Asking if he is ready, Yu's countermeasure cuts across the roof of the building above demon Mika. Outside, Yu does not react at all to the coliseum surrounding the area, neither the many black suns in the air that demon Mika can see, or the collective tremendous electrical surge they deliver. He only joins Mikaela in the air to tell Mika here he comes.

Fighting to save Mika

Swirling electrical currents and overlapping streams of shadow appear to move around Yu's sword in a clockwise direction as he happily shouts to Mika, he is going to save him. As a child Yu is visualized extending his hand out. In the air Yu as himself regards Mikaela and is ready to engage. Thinking for his desires to go berserk Yu reiterates his resolve to save him. Bringing his sword down Yu clashes with Mikaela yet an impact flings Yu into a building.

Repelled by demon Mika's strike

Gathering himself Yu comments how demon Mika is super-strong and wonders if he can even beat him. Yu thinks how he was supposed to do this again, he has to do something to save Mika. Recalling a conversation with Guren on whether he remembers how to subdue a demon Yu asked how it went again, before voicing that he totally could do this.

Remembering how to subdue a demon

As it was explained it would be a clash of hearts rather than weapons, where attacks would weaken one another, Yu was imagining diagrams as he heard demons poison the wounds they cause where desires would be amplified and so he would be easier to possess. Speaking on when he subdued Asuramaru, Yu mentioned he did not attack him at all. In response to Mitsuba's reaction Yu spoke how they are really asking to be friends then raised is it not kind of weird to attack the demons. Told that Mika would probably be more powerful than Asuramaru, and he could lose after only one hit, Yu heard if he lost it is game over for all of them. Warned that no one will be saved and that everything will go exactly as Shikama Dōji planned, Yu questioned what was the first's plan. When Guren did not know Yu moved to guessing he would have to hit Mika now that he is a demon. Turning to Yoichi he asked Kimizuki and Mitsuba as well whether weakening and subduing their demons was how they did it. With it the case, and with Guren's order to strike over and over, Yu then smiled at Shinoa when he heard they were cheering for him. Yu remembers he has to hurt Mika's heart, he does not want to but says it will save him.

Trying to fend demon Mika off

Regarding demon Mika above him, Yu remembers Guren's words to not get hit at all and avoids a colossal, ranged strike aimed at him. Managing to block his sword Yu has his neck grasped and does the same as he prevents demon Mika from biting him. He tells demon Mika to watch it before maneuvering his sword to fend him off. With the 'A glint of light' power generating a cross before him Yu thinks he has got to dodge it. Yu is struck by the beam of energy before being overcome by it.

Black Suns in the memory of Yu escaping Sanguinem

A memory of Yu shows him as a child in the underground vampire city where he is crying about being told to go by Mika. Saying he was not going to leave him behind Yu spoke how he finally found a real family. From this memory Yu's desires were seen by Mikaela and they involved a desire to die as he questioned how come he had to survive. Considering himself a ugly, worthless devil Yu did not want to be alone and wished he never existed. When he was pushed away by Mika to escape the young Yu ran outside where he saw the cityscape before him, but apparently not a single one of the many black suns that where in the sky.

Snaring demon Mika who was checking the memory

As this visual of the young Yu is contemplated by Mikaela, Yu as himself stabs Mikaela through the chest with his sword. Stating that he got him too Yu says for Mikaela to open up and let him see what is in his heart.

Seeing they share the same deepest wound

Standing as himself in the same scene among his fallen family members, Yu looks over to the memory of his younger self with Mika. Realizing that is right, Yu speaks how the deepest wound in their hearts would be this. Every night he would have to have this stupid dream. Calling to Mika and saying he has to listen Yu announces he is going to turn him back into a human then he is going to bring Akane and all the kids back to life. Stating there is a way to do that Yu adds that Mika has got to open his eyes and remember. With his name spoken Yu turns to Mikaela and asks if he remembers now. When he does not, Yu raises how he just said his name. Telling him to look around Yu speaks that this is the inside of his heart and that they are family.

Resuming the attempt to try and possess demon Mika

If he is going to save him Yu declares he will have to possess him for a sec. Motioning for his sword Yu asks Mikaela to let him cut him once. In his goal to save him Yu and Mikaela exchange sword movements and receive injuries. Yu thinks no as he is decapitated.

Contacting demon Mika who is being assailed by the First

After Mika accesses a large single eye, historical memories of Yu as a child being formed from individual eyes are viewed. After Sika Madu sees that Mika is accessing the memory and attempts to capture him, Yu as he is presently contacts Mika and says to send his mind back to him. Appearing in his uniform, Yu states if they work together, they can get away. Together they can do anything. With Sika Madu attempting to have Mika sleep, Yu tells him it is okay, and for them to do it together. Yu affirms he will devour him and be devoured by Mika as well, that will let Mika become his demon. Standing alone in a white plane, Yu speaks they can do this together and he continues by saying for Mika to close his eyes and say his name, to call him with his heart.

Happy to speak with demon Mika

Approaching demon Mika, he greets him happily. Asking if he remembers him now, and finding this is not the case, Yu tells him not to worry when demon Mika is concerned about the trouble they are in. With Sika Madu looking dangerous, Yu does not see the problem and affirms they will work together and blast him away, before offering a fist bump. With demon Mika raising how Yu was created and might have been made to be a past Mikaela's body, he considers it. If he can bring Mika back to life, Yu does not really see a problem with that.

Asking Mika to become his demon

Not remembering anything about the ancient past, Yu laughs that he is an amnesiac, but he does remember the last sixteen years. Speaking how he thought Mika died, and how he desperately tried to survive to get revenge for him, Yu continues that right when he found Mika again and thought he got him back, suddenly he is a little kid and does not remember the last sixteen years then questions if he knows how much of a pain that is. Dismissing it, Yu is happy they are still alive and together so what else matters. Asked by demon Mika why he has the same feeling, Yu bets it is because they are family. With it not seeming the case in the vision, Yu does not care, that was all in the past so what does any of it matter anymore. These last sixteen years are way more important to them, yet seeing demon Mika's expression, Yu asks does he not agree. When he does, Yu says for him to take his hand so they can be together.

Undaunted by the threat of Shikama Doji

While Yu is asking Mika to become his demon, he appears unaware that a child form of himself is sleeping before Sika Madu. His physical body remains on the spell circle with his squad nearby. The child form of him with Mika in one of Sika Madu's realms is unresponsive to Kimizuki and Yoichi's presence. All the while, Yu faces demon Mika with his hand outstretched. Asked what would happen since their foe looked like he could not be beaten with their power, Yu responds he cannot say that until they try. Told there is nothing they can do, Yu feels it will still work out, he is sure of it. They have more family besides the two of them, and Yu mentions Akane and the other kids. Then there is Guren, Shinoa, Mitsuba, Yoichi, even Kimizuki.

With demon Mika as his sword

Asking if it is not awesome, Yu speaks how the world may be a total wreck, but they still have that huge of a family. There is still plenty of value to living, with a powerful desire to live and protect their family. Saying that Mika can devour all that desire, Yu asks him to become his demon. Joining hands, Yu surges with electricity in front of where Sika Madu is and says for Mikaela to slice them open. Standing with his eyes closed, after a zap occurs Yu reacts to Mika's voice and knows he is his demon now as he can feel him devouring his desires.

Speaking with demon Mika

With demon Mika changed from a child to an appearance matching his current age, and them needing to take care of the First, Yu asks if he thinks they can do it. Affirming they should, Yu questions if Mika is his sword now, then whether he is a powerful one. With it depending on the wielder, Yu guesses he had better do a million pushups.

Attacking the First

Stating for them to do this, Yu finds Mika formed into a sword at his hip. After asking if he is good, Yu says to slice it open, Mikaela. Swinging towards Sika Madu, he then appears behind him. Ordering the monster to die, Yu strikes at the First. After Sika Madu avoids Mika as a sword, Yu invokes the "Second Edge. Black Gash" power.

Their powers do not stop the First from regenerating

After Sika Madu's head has disappeared from the attack, Yu exclaims that they did it. Seeing the First reformed, Yu says to Mika it is no good and they have to do it better next time. Finding that Kimizuki and Yoichi are in this realm, Yu raises that they came here to save him. Asked if he rescued Mika, smiling, Yu raises the sword and answers yes. Questioned if he is powerful, the answer is yes again. On whether they can take out the First here and now, Yu regards him and addresses Mika to see if they can gauge things. Asking Mika how powerful the First looks, Yu questions if they can beat him.

Using a desire to be loved for power

Informed that it depends on his desire, Yu replies for Mika to go ahead and devour it all, he can possess him if he wants. Ever since they joined together, Yu says he has been feeling awesome and can do anything right now. Hearing that Shinoa is helping too, Yu's desire is he wants to give something back. Wanting to protect his friends, everyone, Yu voices that he wants his friends to love him. Enveloped in a shimmering light, Yu feels after all he cannot love himself, so needs to have others do it for him.

Relentlessly attacking

Hearing the desire is plenty, Yu agrees they should kill Sika Madu. Disregarding the First's words to not merge any further, Yu answers who cares about him, all he is going to do is die. Slashing at the First and learning the poison in Sika Madu is starting to fade, Yu guesses he and Mika will have to finish this quick. "Third Edge. Phantom Journey" is spoken which results in Mika appearing with him. "First Edge. Pandemonium" is then mentioned and Yu is ready with the sword coated in a shadowy fire like substance.

Slashing while they can

While Sika Madu focuses on the three seraphs that have appeared, Yu acts on Yoichi's words and is ready to attack the First. Shouting that he will kill him, Yu cuts across Sika Madu. Asked by Kimizuki if he got him, Yu declares he will this time as he swings again. His attention turns to the tones coming from the seraphs. Regarding one speaking how sinners must be executed on sight, Yu questions who that is. With Mika appearing, Yu interacts with him.

Unsure of Sika Madu's escape and the seraphs above

Witnessing chains appear around Sika Madu, and reacting with surprise, Yu then sees the coffin close as the First is taken away. Confirming with demon Mika that he heard the angels are their enemy, Yu wonders what is going on as he observes the seraphs above. Yu is visualized as a child with Mika within a building with tree branches around.

Beholding the seraphs, Yu asks demon Mika what those things are. Hearing they might be angels, Yu questions what are those. Surprised to hear the answer may be in his memories, Yu shares he does not remember the past scenarios at all. With demon Mika sure they are not his own memories, Yu raises if he got them back. From his reaction, Yu gathers he hasn't and comments that demon Mika did indeed devour a ton of his desires in their fight against Shikama Doji.

The memory of Yu being told to get out of here during the escape from Sanguinem is recalled. As a child, Yu thought that it hurt, where he felt sad and wondered why he had to go on surviving all alone. Where this helps restore Mika's memories, Yu is thrilled and finds it awesome. Calling to Kimizuki and Yoichi that Mika says he got all his memories back, Yu heads over to them.

Yu thanks Shiho and Yoichi for their help

After recalling training with Guren as a child, Yu presently interacts with Kimizuki and Yoichi. Asked by the latter what the seraphs are, Yu replies he does not actually know. While they are in his heart, Yu voices it is weird and wonders aloud what is going on here. On whether they beat the First, Yu answers Kimizuki no, he ran. Unsure of whether he is going to come back, it is raised that Guren and the others are waiting for them, so Yu is in favor of returning to their bodies. Having something to say, Yu thanks both Yoichi and Kimizuki for coming to help.

Yu says that it was hard for him, but he survived to meet Mika

Asking if Mika can manifest outside too, Yu says for them to head back since everyone is waiting for them. Appearing quite alarmed when Mika states he is kind of mad at him, Yus is accused of trying to die a number of times after escaping Sanguinem. Noting that his memories have been peeked into, Yu tries to give excuses that it was not that easy always being on his own and how it was really hard. Then jubilant, Yu feels it all worked out in the end since he survived to meet Mika again, and he is glad because of it.

Mika and Yu promise to protect each other

Agreeing that it was thanks to Guren, he concurs that he and Mika should thank him together. Walking beside Mika and returning his words that he will protect him, Yu places his hand toward him.

Yu thanks Shinoa for helping

Announcing his return on the rooftop, Yu looks to Mika appearing beside him. With Shinoa noting he saved him, Yu affirms it was thanks to her. Noticing Kimizuki and Yoichi returning to their bodies, Yu happily forms a peace sign with his fingers after Guren states it is good they are back. Observing, then calling his name, with Mika looking at the sun Yu decides to address him as "Mika-poo!". Gaining a response, Yu says Mika had this weird, troubled look on his face so asks what he is thinking about. Surprised to hear Mika say he can look at the sun, Yu attempts the same only to shield his eyes from the brightness.

Yu calls Mika

Getting why Mika can look at the sun, Yu details how where he was a vampire who couldn't before, now as a demon Mika can do such a thing. Hearing that more of Mika's memories are coming back, Yu questions did he not get them back all at once. Following that Mika got some of Yu's memories after his desires were eaten, he understands that Mika finds it hard to tell which are his own memories.

Yu's strange thoughts

Having an idea, Yu questions if Mika can read his mind. Finding it awesome when Mika thinks he probably could, Yu asks if he can tell him what he is thinking right now. Exuberant at the idea, Yu as a child is remembered as trying to access the toilet that Mika was in. From Mika's reaction, Yu excitedly states that he really can see into his head. With Mika commenting that the desire was a crappy one, Yu jokes that technically Mika was the one taking a crap.

Having another memory in mind, Yu asks what about this one. Assuring Mika that this one is awesome, Yu promises. After Mika shares that he cannot see anything, Yu realizes the situation and explains it is the same with Asuramaru, if he makes the walls around his heart really high then nothing can be seen anymore.

Yu says that now they can work together even better

Explaining further, Yu says when he wants power he gives bunches of desire, that connects them. In response to Mika adding when they are connected, he could see everything, Yu continues yet with Asuramaru, if he overdid it then he risked being possessed by him. Told by Mika he would not possess him, Yu does not really care if he does.

While Mika is firmly against possessing him, Yu supports them working together on a whole new level. Suggesting they should try stuff and figure out what way works the best, Yu answers Mika that, believe it or not, he is competent when he wants to be, and is a grown-up now.

Yu takes Shinoa in his arms

Spoken to by Shinoa and stating she really helped them a bunch, Yu raises how she had to take poison to do it. Asking how she is, Yu wonders if Shinoa is going to be all right. When Shinoa lightheartedly questions if she said no, would he sweep her up in a princess carry, Yu interprets this as she is not okay. Alarmed, Yu knew it and picking her up he calls to Guren that Shinoa says she is feeling bad. After Yoichi and Kimizuki express their concern, and Shinoa pretends to fall asleep in Yu's arms, he shouts in concern thinking that she has fainted. He remains carrying Shinoa with Mika behind him.

Memories of Yu when he escaped Sanguinem and met Guren with Sayuri and Shigure, along with many black suns, as well as the previous occurrence of him about to shoot Ferid in the head are seen. Hearing the commotion involving Krul, he turns to ask Mika what is going on.

Yu notices that Shinoa was pretending to be asleep and doesn't understand why

Facing Kimizuki, he asks what is that noise having heard the truck incoming. Ferid is driving and Yu hears they can move on to the next stage now. Asking aloud whether getting into the car with Ferid is smart, Yu is surprised to see Shinoa awake after she speaks. Puzzled when Shinoa remarks she was not asleep in the first place, Yu questions why she faked being asleep. Asked what he thinks, Yu has no idea.

Where Guren expects them to use Ferid's truck to get to a location where no one can touch them, Yu does not say a word. Beside Mika, he hears Mahiru raise her question of how many tens of thousands of years have they lived, and how they are going to try and figure out.

Akihabara Arc

Transported in the truck driven by Ferid, in the back, Yu seems happy interacting with Kimizuki and Mitsuba. Speaking with them, Yu appears in a cloudy landscape before he realizes that Mika is attempting to commune with him there. Asking him what is wrong, hearing this is not the time to be having a fun chat with friends, Yu apologizes before asking whether Mika wants to join in too. Questioned whether he realizes the situation they are in, Yu replies they are going to Ferid's place in a truck, but does not know what they will do there.

Yu says that he has an idea how to get them to tell the truth

Informed by Mika that Guren, with Mahiru, along with Ferid, and Krul have been in cahoots for years, Yu considers this news. Hearing that he was rescued by Guren for a reason, Yu registers Mika's point that they have some kind of grand plan, and he and Mika are being taken advantage of. Also acknowledging that they need to investigate and find out what that plan is, Yu understands before answering Mika that he has got a plan, a good one. Sure that it will get them to the bottom of whatever they are planning, Yu does not elaborate what his plan is, and only tells Mika to wait and see.

Blinking to return his consciousness to where he is in the truck, Yu speaks to Guren and flatly asks him upfront what this grand plan is that he has got in the works. Saying for Guren to tell him everything, Yu then raises his hand to add hang on a sec. Before Guren says anything, Yu has something to say first. Affirming that he is grateful to him, Yu speaks how if it was not for Guren then he probably would have killed himself. After he watched his while family get murdered, Yu speaks that he totally lost any will to live, yet Guren saved him. Discretely placing his hand on the sword, Yu continues to say he is thankful for that, he likes Guren for it too, and he trusts him. It is how he real feels, and Yu means it.

Yu says how much Guren means to him

His feelings established, now Yu has questions to ask Guren and he is to answer yes or no. If he does not, Yu is firm when speaking that he will destroy this truck and walk away. His first question is whether Guren likes him, and secondly, is he using him. Hearing yes to both questions, Yu then asks was Guren in cahoots with Ferid when he showed up to murder his family.

Yu and Guren use their demons

With Guren hesitating in answering the Ferid murdering his family question, Yu immediately calls to Mika to give him power as he announces they are smashing this truck. Enveloped with a light provided by Mika, then clashing with Guren using the sword, Yu reminds him he said yes or no, did he kill his family. Bringing in others, Yu asks what about Kimizuki and Yoichi's families, did Guren kill them too.

Disregarding Guren's claim to be able to explain the situation, Yu furious reiterates yes or no, before saying for Mikaela to slice them open, which generates electricity from the sword. Engaging Guren before being flung from the truck, Yu stabs the sword into the side of a building to hold himself steady there.

Alerted by Mika that they cannot clash blades with Guren, as Mahiru is injecting poison into him when they do so, Yu understands and comments that is why he started feeling sluggish. While Mika is neutralizing the poison, Yu hears if they clash four more times, they will be slowed down enough where Guren will be faster. Remarking yikes, Yu appears sardonic when mentioning only four more times, and how Guren sure is powerful. That Yu is smiling can be made out by Guren.

Speaking to Mika on something he should not probably say, Yu states how he is actually kind of excited. Questioning whether Mika can feel it, Yu confirms there is a powerful desire to make Guren respect him. Having yet to beat him even once, Yu also answers that he does like Guren. After a recollection where Yu as a child had his hair ruffled by Guren after a sparring session, asked by Mika if he wants Guren's respect, he answers affirmatively. Specifically, Yu declares that he wants to surpass Guren.

Yu wants to surpass Guren

The desire to overcome Guren results in lightning flowing out from Yu, and he agrees with Mika for them to do this, they can be even more powerful yet. Dropping from the side of the building, Yu resolves for them to win in one hit, and they will not clash blades. Speaking how it will take just a second, Yu then decides an instant, a flash. While descending, Yu announces to Guren how he is going to surpass him.

Told to bring it, Yu agrees for him and Guren to do this, before speaking the "Flicker... Mikaela" power. After the stream of light has blasted across the cityscape, Yu is cloaked in a shimmering light, and appears determined facing Guren close by. Radiating with light from Mika's power, Yu leaps downwards to avoid Guren's strike. Announcing he got him, Yu slashes across Guren's waist.

Finding it was a spell tag he cut apart, hearing Guren from behind, Yu thought it was an illusion. In blocking his sword, Yu is alerted by Mika that a second clash from the poisoned weapon will mean they are done. Seeing Guren bearing over him, Yu rejects his words that this is another victory for him by seizing his arm. Shouting it is not over yet, Yu's sword arm is also grasped. If they cannot clash blades, Yu decides he will just have to beat him, by violently head-butting Guren.

Yu wants Guren to lean on him

When Guren calls for Mahiru, he does the same in speaking Mika's name. Calling for power, the shadowy energy around Yu's hand cause him to then be enveloped in light. Noticing it coming but unable to repel it, Yu is then kneed in the face by Guren and he coughs up blood. Refusing to get off when ordered, Yu slams his head into Guren before repeating he will never get off.

Locked with Guren and insistent he is not letting go, Yu declares today he finally wins. If he does not win, Yu feels that Guren will never lean on him. That is why he is going to win, Yu states he has to beat him. While Yu would not have heard him speak with Mahiru on the many ways they can win, he stands over Guren on the ground seemingly defeated. Gasping, Yu questions if he wins. Hearing yes, Yu answers good, and for Guren to answer him a question.

Yu forgives Guren

Asking if it was Guren who murdered his family, Yu is told yes and that he is sorry. His stunned expression changing to one of anger, Yu does not answer Mika speaking his name, rather looks upwards. Shouting that he forgives him, he listens as Guren details they were killed for selfish reasons. Announcing that none of that matters, Yu proclaims passionately that the two of them are family too. Stating that Guren can rely on them, Yu adds that he should do it. Turning to the others, Yu encourages them to agree with his stance as they stand around Guren.

Extending his hand, Yu waits for Guren to join his with the squad's. Speaking how Guren is not alone, Yu compels him to take their hands. When Guren does so, Yu appears pleased. Turning to Ferid speaking to them where they are to head on the road, Yu takes Guren's arm as he pulls him up. Saying his name, Yu speaks how they are family so whatever the problem is, they will all solve it together.

Asking him what has been weighing on him this whole time, Yu questions if Guren can tell them. Clarifying that there are to be no lies, Yu then backtracks and states that Guren can lie if he wants. Still willing to believe Guren's words as if they were the truth, Yu states it is because he has decided Guren is his family. If they are stuck living in this crummy world, and are all doomed to die eventually anyway, Yu wants to go out having faith in his family.

Yu isn't happy that Guren doesn't tell him anything

Mildly outraged having resumed being transported, Yu questions really what is wrong with Guren. Claiming he got this super serious look on his face, Yu imitates Guren speaking that he would tell the truth. Incensed but now he is not saying one dang thing, Yu rejects Guren's words that he will tell everything when they get to where they are going. Insisting that Guren in actuality said he would tell them right now, Yu wants him to tell them already before calling to the others to encourage them to agree with him.

Agreeing that Kimizuki is right since Guren has kept them waiting, Yu asks what is with the attitude. When Yoichi has something he would like to say, Yu points at him then orders he go ahead. Where Yoichi wants a proper explanation for his sister's death, Yu states for Guren to see that they have all had enough of waiting. Instructing him to quit stalling and explain it already, Yu adds Guren gets one sentence. Told that is impossible, Yu speaks that he hurry up and explain, now, in one second, then one word. Pleased to hear that Guren will bring their families back to life, Yu then reacts after Mika raises what the price would be.

Keen at hearing that Akane and the rest of the orphan family will be brought back, Yu places his hand on Mika's shoulder before raising with Guren how he said before that his ultimate goal was to bring back everybody killed by the catastrophe. Where it is an affirmative reply, Yu continues it is why Guren is going to bring them back, Kimizuki and Yoichi's sisters, his family, everyone. Acknowledging that restoring people from the dead is not free, Yu mentions how Guren brought only a handful of people back, then mentions what happened to the world.

Yu reconciles Guren and Shinoa

As Shinoa speaks how Mahiru sacrificed her life to protect her, Yu listens further as Guren mentions how he made the final decision which resulted in humanity being wiped out. Where Shikama Doji's plan, a millennia in the making is discussed, Shinoa feels the blame rests with her as she survived when everyone else's family died, so Yu shouts to ask what she is saying. Questioning if she is stupid, Guren addresses Guren too. Taking their hands and joining them, Yu states all that blame talk is meaningless. Deeming the self-acceptance of blame to be dumb, Yu demands to know what the heck are they even doing. If they tried their hardest to live, when they did what they had to do, Yu announces that is fine because they are family. Calling for the others to say whether he is right, Yu rallies them to tell him.

Saying for Mika to give his input too, in response to his hesitance, Yu affirms they will get this team circle thingy done as many times as it takes. Attempting to draw Krul in, Yu appears struck to have the notion of family rejected by her, yet with Mahiru joining in with him and others, Yu pronounces that they are family. Stating for them to forget the past, where the future is more important, Yu details if this was all some mega-plot by Shikama Doji, then so what. Asking what they care, Yu continues that all of them are going to fight for their family, and do whatever it takes, for as long as it takes.

With the idea of the seraph of the end being controlled, so that the taboo of resurrecting people can be done with that directing retribution, Yu hears it is not nearly so convenient. Learning that resurrecting the dead is a curse, where Yu could end up cursed like Guren, answering fine, Yu states if that is what they have to do for their family then they will do it. Saying for Guren to tell them, Yu wants to know what this big plan is of his. On what the ultimate goal is, Yu wonders what price they are going to have to pay, and how will it curse them.

Reiterating for Guren to tell them, Yu then disembarks the truck having arrived at the undisclosed location, which turns out to be a building with "Akihabara" on the side. Reminding Guren that he said when they got to where they were going he would talk, Yu mentions they are here before demanding to know what is going on, and what is here. Informed they are going underground, Yu clarifies if it is by an elevator. On what is down there, Yu checks if Guren will talk when they get there. With that the case, Yu is excited for them to go, right now, and quickly.

Yu and Mika see the corpses of children

Cramped within the elevator in between Mika and Mitsuba, he comments how this is tight with everyone else in too, then asks how many floors they are going down. Exiting on the fifteenth underground floor to a large spacious room, Yu is impressed as he wonders what this place is, before remarking it is huge. Where there are countless coffins spread about, with arrows on the floor with his name under one, Yu asks what this is. Told he will see when he gets there, Yu is keen for them to get going.

Yu choose Mika

Having followed the direction of his arrow with Mika, standing beside him they view coffins containing the bodies of their Hyakuya orphanage family, and Yu notes everyone. Yu hears there are three prices to pay for bringing the world back. The first is a curse of eternal life to one person out of the people who set off the spell. Seven sinful keys are needed. Thirdly, the lives of every vampire would be sacrificed. Addressing the third price, Yu says to hold on then asks how this would work since Mika is a demon now. He also questions whether Ferid and Krul are going to die.

Yu prepare fight for Mika

As Mika is Shika Madu's son and not human, the news of a choice that only he alone, or all of humanity can be raised is spoken, which leaves Yu appearing deeply troubled. Struggling for words, Yu attempts to request they wait a sec. An ultimatum from Guren is to choose whether to resurrect everyone's family or give them up as dead forever and save only the friend at his side. While Guren says he chooses the side of humanity, Yu asks to give him a minute.

When Guren adds if he chooses Mika alone then that makes him their enemy, Yu calls for Mika to be his sword, and is prepared to fight. Rapidly leaping back, Yu skids to a halt and repeatedly damns the situation, then thinks this is really bad.

On his feet, Yu holds the sword ready. Guided to calm down by Mika, given the pressure he speaks to shut up. Advised to think on Akane and the kids, Yu shouts to shut up. Words concerning everything Guren did to get this far result in Yu shouting to shut up once more.

Within their sphere, Yu is silent. When Mika says to stop this, and that Yu is swamped in ugly desires, he remains head down. After it is raised who it is he is pointing his sword at, how it is his family, Yu turns to shout how Mika is his family too. While Mika mentions he is already dead, Yu states he wants to bring him back.

Hearing he cannot have everything, and Mika frame it is just himself versus all of humanity, Yu states he does not care about humanity. Invited to consider whether he is okay abandoning Akane, he is at a loss for words. A follow up question for Yu is if he is okay with abandoning all the kids who died. As a child with family members, Yu is visualized. Presently, Yu is speechless as Mika details for thought how he will bring him back, but give up on Akane and the kids. Mentioned that he would not be able to live with that, Yu clenches his teeth and trembles.

Silent as Mika speaks how Guren went through hell to get this far, and how he is the enemy of the First who had to make a lot of hard, ugly choices, Yu is told today is his turn to do such a thing. Opening his eyes, Yu's face is awash with tears as he looks a Mika. Speaking that he can't, Yu adds he just cannot give up on Mika.

“	I can't. I just can't give up on you.	”

Recalled as a child walking through Sanguinem with Mika, he is asked whether he remembers their promise. Where it concerned how Yu was going to do a million push-ups, get really strong, then kill all the bloodsuckers and save their family, Yu listens as Mika speaks how he was full of dreams and thought he could do anything as long as he had him. Processing Mika share how he feels it was his fault that everyone died, Yu also hears him mention how living hurt. With Mika wanting Yu to save his heart, where bringing back Akane and the kids is the means for that, he is asked for them to do this together.

Stating it is no fair, twice, Yu bemoans how he cannot choose this quick. After Mika says he is sorry to put him through this, Yu wishes that he had died instead. When Mika mentions how everyone dies eventually, then they will get to be together in heaven, Yu questions where that is. Requested to make the right choice, Yu begins crying again. Struggling to find his words as he looks at Mika's outstretched hand, Yu hears it will all be fine, and they will be together forever. Breathing, Yu gathers himself.

Regarding a view above, Yu then wipes his face and says he will do it, and choose. Making it convincing by saying he cannot make Guren do all the hard stuff, Yu takes Mika's hand giving the impression they are to go ahead with keeping him a demon and resurrect humanity.

Announcing for Mika to devour his desires, Yu abruptly reveals he has made his decision. Disregarding Mika urging him to hold on, Yu proclaims he needs all the power ever as curse mark sizzle over the right side of his face. His sclera blackened, Yu orders the demon power to go totally wild.

“	Devour my desires... ...Mika. I've made my decision. I need all the power ever!	”

A demon horn bursts from the left side of Yu's head. Mentioned by Guren as having gone berserk, Yu may have heard he is to be restrained and restored. With the vampires being called to help, it is mentioned if Yu runs, Guren and the vampires plan is totally screwed. Hearing this or not, Yu zips away. Telling himself he has got to get out, Yu means to find an escape route.

Acting to defend himself with the sword from the Gekkouin bow fire launched by Yoichi, he then finds one of Kiseki-o's coffins manifested by Kimizuki on his left. Discovering that Ferid is emerging from the coffin, Yu reacts by ordering Mikaela to slice it open. The force of the collision sends Yu flying, which works in his favor as he resumes his escape. Lunging away from Crowley who appears, Yu has also apparently picked up on Guren who has closed in. Stabbing the sword into the ground, Yu ducks under Crowley and Guren's separate sword sweeps, and leaps upwards. Thinking to open the ceiling, Yu resolves to get to the floor above.

Seeing his left leg has been grasped by Krul, he can do little before being thrown into the ground. Finding himself in the crumbled ground, Yu steadies himself while considering he does not have enough power. Needing lots more, Yu speaks for Mika to give it, and has a great need for further power. Two demon horns have now formed on Yu's head.

By himself in his ruined space as his squad and the vampires gather, Yu focuses on his need for more power. Not having nearly enough, Yu feels he needs to be stronger, much more so. Ignoring Guren's shout to stop it, Yu relentlessly fixates on not having enough. Coming to see that one demon's power is not enough, Yu steadily wonders what he is to do now.

“	I need more power. I don't have nearly enough. I need to be stronger. I need to be much, much stronger... Not enough. Not enough! One demon's power isn't enough. So... ...What do I do now?	”
–Surrounded and unable to escape, Yu's thoughts drift to another demon's power, that from Asuramaru. Chapter 115: "Choices and Decisions" page 39

The option dawning on him, Yu speaks Asuramaru's name. Appearing in his realm, Yu sees the sky covered in deep black clouds, with violent thunderstorms in the distance. Finding Asuramaru there balanced on his sword, Yu asks the demon to give him power. Physically, Yu has dropped before Krul within the coffin chamber. Not reacting to anything there, it is in Asuramaru's thunderstruck realm that Yu says his name and demands power. Told it is impossible, Yu speaks how he needs infinite power. Questioned what he would do with it, Yu responds to give it.

Ignoring Asuramaru's words, Yu speaks power, demon, now. In response to Asuramaru's discouragement, that Mika is against this too, and it is not what he truly wants, Yu's hand trembles as he reiterates his order. Yu shouts to give him power. From where he is stood physically, Yu yells in fury. Having an expression indicating he knows he has been grasped, Yu is tackled to the ground by Krul.

His mind active in Asuramaru's demon realm, Yu leaps and roars for him to give power now. Reaching for him, Yu has his left arm cut off and then taken by Asuramaru. Indifferent to the injury, Yu speaks for Mikaela to regenerate that. His arm restored, Yu responds to Asuramaru's claim that he is a monster by suggesting they become a monstrous demon together. In response to Asuramaru saying that Yu's cause is not his, he replies he will save everyone.

After it is stated that Yu just wants to save Mika, in turn he mentions how Asuramaru only wants to save his sister. Accused of having looked inside Asuramaru's heart, the response is he looked inside his. Announcing that he will devour his desires, Yu adds he will make Mikaela eat them too.

“	I'll devour your desires... ...And make Mikaela eat them too.	”
–Speaking as a demon, Yu details what he has in mind for Asuramaru. Chapter 117: "Of Monsters and Demons" page 12

Assuring Asuramaru that it is alright, Yu says he will make his wish come true as well. Clarifying that his wish is to save Krul, he questions is that not what Asuramaru wants. Insisting that he would save Krul when he is not believed, Yu is also certain that he will save everyone. When Asuramaru declares from the start he only ever had eyes for Mikaela, he speaks for Mika's sword to appear. Although Asuramaru states he will not be devoured, Yu responds that he is more powerful than him.

With Asuramaru intending to fight to save his sister, Yu says he will save her for him. Trust is an issue, yet Yu speaks for Asuramaru to let himself be devoured and he will grant his wish, his demon eyes are ever present. Yu awaits an answer with the sword pointed towards Asuramaru.

Lightning crashes down to the ground and Yu looks upwards to the sky. Registering that they have injected a substance into his physical body, Yu feels he has to hurry. Even after he devours Asuramaru he will not be able to move. Yu's name is mentioned by Krul when she is speaking to Ashera to stop him.

In response to Asuramaru generating his sword, Yu questions if he is fighting him. Listening as Asuramaru details how he will kill him, and Mikaela inside him too if he must, all to defend Krul, Yu submits he will save her. Instructed to focus on saving Mikaela, he vanishes before commencing battle with Asuramaru. Using Mika's sword to block against the two that Asuramaru is wielding, Yu exchanges sword strikes with him.

Finding the Asura Kannon... Million blades power has brought forth many swords above him, Yu speaks for Mikaela to slice it open. After a lightning strike, Yu can evade the attack. The slice it open, Mikaela invocation allows Yu to zip towards Asuramaru. Reacting to the floating swords Asuramaru now has, Yu still cuts him apart at the waist.

Finding two portals firing a torrent of swords at him from either side, Yu reacts to being stabbed by them. Bitten by Asuramaru and also yelling at that, a lightning surge sends him away. Suspended in the air, Yu checks the bite injury to his neck and finds blood. Silent at Asuramaru announcing that he can win, Yu is also voiceless at hearing that Mika is refusing to heal him because he wants him to lose.

Regarding his hand, Yu answers Asuramaru that he was right not to give up on his sister. That is how humanity should be, and Yu adds he is not going to give up on Mikaela. When Asuramaru says he will be stuck in that loop until he dies, Yu feels that is fine. Like him, Yu will not give up until he dies. Yu then amends his response to clarify that he will not give up even if he dies.

“	No. You were right not to give up on your sister. That's how humanity should be. I'm not going to give up on Mikaela.	”

Clear what is to happen next, Yu readies the sword. Diving down, Yu heads to engage Asuramaru once more. Physically restrained by his squad, Yu is furious with his face bearing curse marks on the right side, with demonic horns and fangs. Perhaps registering the words on some level on whether they are family, Yu's expression softens.

Within Asuramaru's realm lightning strikes as Yu engages in battle with him. After clashing, Yu has been struck with a sword through his left eye, and another one through his chest. Managing to slam Asuramaru into the ground anyway, Yu hones in further. Flummoxed by the Asura-Kannon... Infinite Blades power, Yu growls for Mikaela to slice it open.

Although Yu manages to cut Asuramaru apart, he is also dismembered. Slumping to the ground, Yu's upper half seizes Asuramaru who attempts to reach his own body. While announcing that he is not getting away, Yu adds he will devour him. Accused of having turned into a monster, one that everyone hates, and does not deserve to live, Yu reflects on the words. Recalling how they were the words from his parents, and how Shikama Doji visited him in a prison cell before he came to the orphanage, Yu hears from Asuramaru how concerning Mika and his orphanage family, that they are all fake memories, and manipulated emotions.

Instructed to open his ears and listen, Yu is asked whether he can hear his real family. Physically still with a similar expression of disbelief as a needle is injected into his neck, Yu verbally reacts with less violent demon like growls in response to his squad around him. Unclear whether he can hear their pleas to return, or that the drug is kicking in that wanes the power of his demon, Yu appears drained as he is held by Shinoa. In Asuramaru's realm, Yu has tears falling down his face. Hearing that if he cannot hear their voices then he really is just a monster, a puppet made by Shikama Doji to act as he wishes, Yu reacts to the words.

Visualizing the four members of Shinoa squad, Yu speaks how all of them are there for him and he is not alone, not anymore. Questioned if he is back to his senses, Yu answers yes before saying sorry to Ashera for wearing him out. Speaking by the way, Yu mentions he has been sane this whole time. Biting into Asuramaru who remains caught off guard, Yu drinks from his neck until he disappears from the demon realm.

After Asuramaru vanishes, Yu breathes where his eyes have become normal, and finds his body restored. Pleased he did it, namely won, Yu sits by himself before remarking how winning is kind of empty. Accordingly, Yu invokes the sword where Mika appears to join him. Happily checking if Mika ate, Yu comments on how he looks annoyed in response to his silence. Asking whether Mika is mad at him, Yu merrily answers he did hear him before. Hearing that Mika has been mad this whole time so is going to kick his butt, Yu laughs happily while saying sorry.

As Mika establishes whether Yu is going to betray everyone and bring him back to life even though he does not want that, Yu positively beams in response. After Mika then questions if he is going to blindly go along with everything Shikama Doji tells him, Yu answers no, he is going to do his own thing. Not what Guren says, or Shikama Doji, he will do what he himself says. Confirming he does have a path he wishes to take, Yu only wants one thing and that is to protect his family from this world. Asking Mika to help him with that, Yu shakes his hand.

“	I'm going to do my own thing. Not what Guren says. Not what Shikama Doji says. I'm going to do what I say.	”

Conscious in the physical world but appearing confused somewhat, Yu finds Shinoa above him. Stating that he is sorry, Yu adds he is leaving. Darting upwards Yu breaks out of the underground facility to the outside world. Away some distance, Yu busies himself with climbing a radio tower. Asked by Mika how high he is planning to go, Yu happily announces they are almost to the top. Questioned has he not heard the saying that fools and smoke rise to high places, Yu responds he guesses he is the fool. Reaching the summit, Yu says to Mika that they are here.

From the top of the tower, Yu observes the landscape and remarks how awesome it is. Saying for Mika to look, Yu asks him is it not awesome. Marvelling at how high up they are, Yu specifies they are super-duper high up. Reiterating that this is seriously so awesome, Yu encourages Mika to join him. Learning that this is Tokyo Tower, Yu reacts to Mika being aware of this and comments he knows a lot. Yu asks Mika does he like Tokyo Tower that much. Hearing Mika say the 1,000 feet height of the tower is common knowledge, Yu feels everybody must have liked Tokyo Tower a whole bunch. With Mika, they survey the landscape together.

When Mika agrees that it is an amazing view, Yu is pleased to concur with the sentiment. After Mika raises how they are being chased, so why climb up here, Yu acknowledges the question before detailing that if he stands up here on the very top then does it not make him the tallest person ever. In his delight, Yu announces how he is on the top of Tokyo Tower. Losing his balance, Yu registers that he has slipped. His hand reaches for Mika as Yu looks to him.

Falling, Yu calls for Mika before he lands on his feet. Pleased that he did not die, Yu speaks how he fell all the way from up there but is still totally fine. With Mika joining him on the ground, Yu states he is alive. Knowing what it was, Yu describes terminal velocity, where partway down, air resistance stopped him from falling any faster. Determined, Yu declares to Tokyo Tower that he wins.

On whether that is a "listen to him" look, Yu responds to Mika that he finally noticed, where he has looked this way for a good two hundred years now. Questioned why climb to the top since they cannot afford to stick out right now, Yu asks who would not want to climb it as it is the tallest thing around. Laughing at being called dumb, Yu just kind of figured he should look around and really see. As for what specifically, Yu answers everyone. The world the catastrophe destroyed, and everyone who died in it.

This whole time, Yu was only ever thinking about himself and his family, and how he had to save them. Taking ahold of Mika's hand, Yu specifies that he just had to save him. Speaking of Akane, the kids, then Guren, and Shinoa, as long as he could save the family that took him in then Yu does not care about anything else. After Mika says that Yu's happiness is his, and to not go getting greedy, he questions whether it means he would let Mika die and go on living.

Considering Mika's words that Guren is trustworthy and he likes him, Yu listens as it is raised how Shinoa, along with the rest of his squad all said they loved him and begged him not to go. Confirming he heard that, Yu is asked whether he is sure answering them as he done is what he wants. Having a question of his own, Yu asks Mika what if it were him. If he were in his shoes, what would he have done.

In response to Mika asking the same, what would he have done in his shoes, Yu's brow furrows before speaking he will not give in. Taken aback at being directed to go, and hearing he already turned his back on Mika, then ordered to keep going and live, Yu remembers Mika pushing him away as a child for him to escape the vampire city and becomes angered. From Mika saying that he can learn to like Shinoa, make a new family with her, have kids and live happily, Yu is told further that he should not cling to the past. Informed outright that it is over, and that day Yu escaped he chose to leave him behind and start a new life, Yu responds by asking Mika how he can think he can start a new life if he is not in it.

Struck by Mika who tells him it is over, Yu responds in kind and tells who he addresses as stupid Mika to shut up. Headbutted over, and ordered to give up, Yu refuses and again when told once more to do so. Lying on his back, Yu stares upwards. Where Mika can feel how strongly he does not want to give up, Yu turns to saying sorry that he left him behind. After Mika states he wants Yu to give on him and live his own life, the reply is that he could have chosen to die with him that day instead. It is not like Yu has a reason to live.

Told to live anyway, Yu answers he has lived long enough. Revealing that he considered suicide every day, Yu says he stuck it out doing what it took to live this long. Yu feels Mika could at least praise him for that. Tearful, Yu speaks how Mika was gone, but he stayed alive and did not die for this long so he deserves a compliment for that.

If Yu was just going to give up on Mika, he would have offed himself that day and saved himself the trouble. Where he didn't, Yu elaborates how he stayed alive and because he did, he got Mika back. Now that Mika is telling him to abandon him again, Yu laughs that is not happening, that is like telling him to die.

“	If I was just going to give up on you... ...I would've offed myself that day and saved myself the trouble. But I didn't. I stayed alive. And because I did, I got you back. Now you're going to tell me to abandon you again? Ha ha! Not happening. That's like telling me to die.	”
–Sharing his feelings with Mika after he said to leave him, and clear what that would be like. Chapter 119: "Our Goals" page 30

Questioned what he is going to do, when sacrificing the world to bring Mika back exactly like the First wants is raised, Yu flicks Mika's forehead. Stating that Mika is supposed to be the smart one, Yu says for him to use his brain. Detailing how they have not decided anything yet, Yu adds he and Mika have not thought for themselves one but, they have only done what Guren or the First told them to do. Affirming that Guren is amazing, with that he is making choices given as a reason, Yu adds he is even willing to become the bad guy if it means getting what he wants.

Adding that the First is too, Yu raises with Mika how Asuramaru said that the First had abandoned him. The First is willing to do anything to bring Mika back to life, and Yu is further impressed since he is thinking, Shikama Doji knows what he wants to do. Additionally, Yu states the First knows what battles he has to win, but what about him and Mika.

Judging that they have not thought of anything, neither have they made any choices, Yu describes himself and Mika as kids, pieces in somebody else's game. Asking what a game they can play is, Yu raises questions of where they stand, who do they help, and betray. Questioning Mika what do they have to do, Yu is asked about the plan he claimed to have had. Immediately, Yu denies having any such plan.

“	But what about us? We haven't thought about anything. We haven't made any choices. We're kids. Pieces in somebody else's game. Then what's a game we can play? Where do we stand? Who do we help? Who do we betray? What do we have to do, Mika?	”
–With Mika, he has a firm grasp of their situation and a marked change in conduct willing to be entertained. Chapter 119: "Our Goals" page 33-34

There is one thing Yu understands, that the two of them are still stuck in those days. Stating that he and Mika are still trapped and helpless, it is just like they were when the vampires had them. Although they had far less power than they do now, Yu points out that Mika still thought his hardest and came up with a crazy plan to get them out. Affirming that Mika is smart, Yu knows that better than anyone. If Mika puts his mind to it, Yu says he knows he can come up with a plan that will get them both out alive this time.

On whether his plan was to dump it all in his lap, Yu's input is his job involves being the brawn, if any vampires show up, he will chop them to bits. As for whether he has any ideas to win, Yu enthusiastically claims he does. Having bigger ideas than Guren or even the First, what Yu wants is to bring everybody back, including Mika. Called an idiot and asked whether he can pull off what Guren and Shikama Doji cannot, Yu replies yes because he is dumb.

“	You bet! I've got bigger ideas than Guren! Or even the First! What I want is to bring everybody back, including you!	”
–Happily sharing with Mika his desire to resurrect everyone, a third method of resurrection with no one left out. Chapter 119: "Our Goals" page 38

Referring to how dumb people and smoke rise to high places, Yu points to the sky while explaining that is why he climbed to the top of the highest place around. He wanted to get a good look at everybody they are going to save. Declaring they are going to save everybody, not just their family, Yu encourages Mika to think. It has got to be easier than getting a bunch of kids away from vampires, and Yu tells Mika to not worry, he knows he can do it. If they try and it does not work, Yu says they will both just die. If everything really did end way back then, Yu raises then what is wrong with dying.

Firm that they will save everyone, or they will die together, Yu feels either is fine. That makes it super easy, and Yu adds it is the same goal they decided on way back when. Having zero intent to live all on his own, Yu tells Mika he had better use those smarts of his and come up with a plan that will let them win. Yu is visualized as a child, happy with Mika and their orphanage family with them. Presently, Yu hears Mika say for them to do this. Stating that is great, Yu mentions for them to both get out of this crappy world together before fist bumping Mika.

Within a large convenience store, Yu considers how he is actually starving. Wondering if there is even any food left, Yu feels probably not. Investigating whether there are any cans hidden in the barren location, again Yu thinks probably not before reacting to a can that drops down. Surprised there was one, Yu notes it was stuck under the shelves.

Joining Mika outside, Yu excitedly says for him to look. Pleased there was a can left, Yu speaks how it must be a sign that he has been a good boy lately. Although Mika states they will not have to attack demon army villages for supplies, Yu agrees but adds one can is not going to hold him over for long. Sharing how it smells good, Yu reveals it is still edible. Asking whether Mika wants some, at hearing he is fine with his desires, Yu says he will eat it all then.

While eating from the can, Yu questions Mika whether he has come up with anything yet, namely if there are any good ideas on how to save everyone. In response to him dumping everything on Mika, and whether he is going to think at all, Yu replies he is so hungry right now. Tossing the can over his shoulder, Yu says it is not enough.

Asked to help him think, Yu processes how first they have got to get a grasp of the situation, such as about himself and Mika. For some reason, Yu can remember things from before he was born. In some of the really old memories, Yu shares further that he remembers seeing what he sees as Mika's corpse.

Describing it as really pretty, Yu questions Mika if that was him, then adds he even had wings. When Mika replies he does not know, Yu says okay then, then guesses the first thing they need to do is dig into his own memories.

“	Okay then. I guess first thing we need to do is dig into my memories. Let's go.	”
–Having memories of the ancient past, Yu moves onto what he and Mika are to do. Chapter 120: "The Price of Appetite" page 8

Ready to proceed, Yu learns from Mika it is unfeasible since going into the past takes a lot of power. Understanding, Yu says for Mika to go ahead and eat more of his desires. Surprised to learn that what he has right now provides barely any energy, Yu gives some thought to desires.

Enquiring that kind of desires does Mika needs him to give, Yu checks whether he should think lewd thoughts or something. Wondering what Mika is thinking, Yu hears and figures he does not have enough life force from that one can. Now that Yu has devoured Asuramaru, he gets far more hungrier. With twice the desires being burned through, Yu acts on that by saying he is starving. As his stomach growls, Yu asks Mika now what. Where they need to look through their old memories, they also have to secure a large volume of food, and Yu is fine with Mika's plan for them to leave Tokyo as well.

“	The biggest towns nearby are Ikebukuro, Shibuya, and Shinjuku... ...But all of them have a ton of guards. They'll be tough nuts to crack.	”
–Meaning to attack settlements for supplies before he and Mika can delve into memories. Chapter 120: "The Price of Appetite" page 12

For the food supplies they need to gather, Yu asks Mika should they attack a town then. Knowing that the biggest towns nearby are Ikebukuro, Shibuya, and Shinjuku, adding they all have a ton of guards, Yu feels they will be tough nuts to crack. After Mika states they do not have a choice, Yu adds Guren is smart and give him time and he will anticipate them coming. Elsewhere, Yu is discussed by Guren as having devoured two demons now, and his name comes up by his squad who wonder as to his whereabouts and plans. Described as broken by Krul, he is to be brought back if Shinoa gets what she wants.

After Mika thinks they should probably hit multiple smaller settlements since there would be fewer guards, Yu is aware that civilian supplies are distributed from the towns. If they take their supplies, Yu is concerned they will starve. When Mika questions if he wants to quit, or go back to Guren, he agrees to press ahead. If they starve, Yu rationalizes he can just revive them later. In response to Mika framing, it as effectively murdering them if he fails, Yu is okay with that having made his choice.

For his family's sake he will become a demon or even the devil himself. Offering his hand, Yu says sorry, but Mika is coming too. After Mika states he is already a demon, Yu knows and is ready. In unison with Mika, they say for them to do this.

At the Naka-Itabashi Station Settlement (four kilometers North of Ikebukuro) Yu drives an army jeep towards the people there. Addressing Mika beside him, Yu says here he goes and for him to take the wheel. Standing, Yu calls to the people and orders that everybody freeze. Leaping up with his sword ready, Yu creates an impact on the ground to scatter the people around along with the supplies they are carrying.

Announcing that they are taking their food, Yu shouts further that if they resist, he kills them. Seizing a girl, Yu states for nobody to move. Holding her up, Yu adds if they even twitch, he will kill the kid. Adding not just her, Yu decides he can kill everyone here. If they do not want to die, Yu instructs them to put their food in that jeep.

“	Nobody move! Even twitch and I'll kill the kid! No, not just the kid. I can kill everyone here! If you don't want to die, put your food in that jeep!	”
–Holding a girl hostage, Yu robs a human settlement. Chapter 120: "The Price of Appetite" page 26 and 27

Saying sorry to the girl he is holding, Yu directs her to just hang in there a little longer. Noticing he is about to be hit from behind, Yu hears from a boy that they will all die anyway should their food be taken. Hearing he will be killed instead, after a moment Yu pushes the youth to the ground. Telling him that is the spirit, Yu says if the boy does not get stronger then his sisters are going to die anyway as this world is crap like that.

Discussing hitting a storehouse with Mika, they cannot stay in Ikebukuro and all the towns are out now. Running is also out of the question as Yu sees that Guren has caught up. Invoking the sword, Yu blocks Guren's weapon as he defends the supplies being targeted. Hearing that he needs to take Guren down or they will never get away otherwise, Yu calls Mika and Asuramaru's names to imbue him with power. Horns form on Yu's head and with his sword shining, he moves to engage Guren. Seeing Guren grab the boy as a human shield, Yu reacts with shock.

Stopping the sword before it can reach the child Guren holds in-front of him, Yu is then struck by Mitsuba and Kimizuki's weapons from behind. He is taken upwards into the air by Mika and prevented from being caught in the truck explosion from Shinoa's spell tag. His name is called by Mika where they have to go.

Their escape blocked by Guren, in considering how hungry he is, Yu speaks how he has no strength left. Yu adds there could have been a chance if he had killed Guren through the kid. Hearing they are trapped, Yu addresses the kid to point out firsthand how one cannot protect their family if they are not strong enough. He adds the kid had better get stronger or else.

Told to give up by Guren, and to come back with them by Shinoa, he remains back-to-back with Mika. The silence is broken when this apparition of Yu with Mika is revealed to be a spell tag illusion.

In a separate location of a food storehouse in Ikebukuro, lightning like streams of energy crackle around Yu's hand. Suspended in the air, Yu has a halo of light around him as the energy from his fingers extends downwards. Reacting to a change, Yu calls to Mika that the ruse is up and he cannot keep this up any longer.

Dropping into the back of a van that Mika is driving, Yu remarks that he is worn out, and so hungry he cannot move. Acting on Mika's advice, Yu begins consuming some of the food supplies. Sharing that he is all better, Yu affirms he is full. A conversation is had on whether others will come after them, and if they do they are to be killed. His desires strong, Yu is sorry about the lengths Mika had to go to in order to acquire the supplies. They begin readying themselves.

Called to by Guren, upon hearing his name, Yu shouts back that if he comes after them, he will kill him. Speaking sorry to everyone, mostly to himself, Yu blasts a lightning bolt up into the air.

Mount Fuji Arc

Driving a different vehicle, Yu answers Mika beside him that where they are headed is a secret as he grins widely. Saying for him to look forward to it, Yu appears genuinely impressed and is pleased that Mika already figured out that they are going to Mt. Fuji, of which the mountain looms before them.

Amazed at how huge Mt. Fuji is, Yu shares with Mika how they say it is the biggest in Japan. In response to Mika's wariness that they cannot afford to draw attention, also asked what it is with him wanting to climb to high places, Yu replies he just wants to climb it. Requesting Mika to just look at it, Yu questions wouldn't anybody want to.

Mentioning how it is supposed to be a good hiding place too, Yu asks Mika whether he knows about the big Sea of Trees at the foot of Mt. Fuji. Asked is it a good hiding spot, Yu feels probably. Guren said something about how the magnetic fields there are wacky, and Yu continues to detail that stuff goes weird with spells for reasons. Where it sounds like he does not remember a thing, Yu comments that he never was that good with spells as he continues driving ahead.

Stopping at the Mt. Fuji 5th Line Station Entrance, Yu looks at the mountain ahead in wonder. After Mika sees that he is clearly trying to climb it, Yu confirms this and adds they came this far so who wouldn't. Heading on his way, Yu answers Mika they should since it would be more memorable if they did. As for why they need memories of climbing Mt. Fuji, Yu answers determinedly that they are about to start a battle that might just get them both killed so why not make some last memories.

–Intending for him and Mika to enjoy themselves heading up Mt. Fuji regardless of what may be ahead. Chapter 121: "Last Dawn" page 7

With Mika registering potential last memories, Yu remains upbeat by saying exactly. For Mika's sake as well, Yu encourages him for them to both have a blast climbing Mt. Fuji. Suddenly thinking he should bring more snacks, Yu hurries back to the car before saying for Mika to come. Now carrying some snacks, Yu encourages Mika to smile as well.

Grinning as he high fives Mika, they then head up the marked trail to the summit of Mt. Fuji. Eating as he walks, Yu and Mika reach a point where they can sit together atop a rock formation. Yu points to something as they speak together.

Awed, Yu finds the view awesome and so beautiful as he and Mika reach the shrine at the top. His hands together before the Mt. Fuji Summit Sengen Shrine, Yu responds to Mika who does he pray to at this one, and replies god probably. Asked which god he is praying to, Yu does not have a clue but knows it is not the First. When there is the idea to pray to the First's enemies, Yu completes the namu part of the prayer.

Having an idea, Yu leaps to the top of the Shinto shrine to announce how they made it. Asked by Mika if jumping up on it is not sacrilegious, Yu grins that they have already been hit with all kinds of divine punishment. The whole world is wrecked too, so what does it matter. Agreeing with Mika that he is optimistic, Yu declares they are about to start the fight to save the world. Sharing his intent to the sky, Yu calls for it just to watch, for god, an angel, a devil whoever it is, and adds they are going to do this, but good.

“	Just you watch! God or angel or devil or whoever you are! We're gonna do this, but good!	”
–Excited at reaching the summit, Yu announces that he and Mika are going to prevail. Chapter 121: "Last Dawn" page 16

Inviting Mika up with him, Yu says the view is awesome. Seeing Mika land next to him, Yu then sits down before saying to look. Before them is the vast expanse of sky, and Yu cheerfully questions whether Mika is glad they came now. Where he is, and got to see him happy as well, Yu answers that Mika looks happy too.

After Mika guesses it has been a while since they had some fun, Yu says for him to see, if they have got to live, might as well have fun. Building on Mika's comment that is a good point, Yu details how they are going to save the world while having fun. With that, Yu mentions by the way he is staying up there until he gets to see his first dawn. Not kidding, Yu continues speaking happily with Mika as the night sky appears, before the dawn comes.

Beside Mika, he views the rising sun come up through the sky before them. After Mika says he will never forget this scenery they looked at together for the rest of his life, Yu is surprised and states they are going to win this fight and live so long they will totally forget today.

Continuing on from that, Yu sets out that they will bring everybody back to life and have so much fun they will completely forget about all the bad stuff they went through. When Mika says if they can do that, Yu knows they can. Rising to his feet, Yu proceeds to announce that both of them are going to do this as he jumps upwards.

Having relocated to a secluded cabin in the Sea of Trees, within Yu sits cross-legged with his eyes closed. When Mika asks if he is ready, Yu answers yes. As Mika places his hand on Yu's chest, it is time for them to go to the past. After Mika speaks for them to take a look, Yu is okay for them to proceed. Reacting to Mika vanishing before him, Yu remarks he is gone. Guessing he had better go too, Yu closes his eyes.

In a memory of an ancient setting (ancient Greece) Yu steps towards Mika who he has found. Appearing as a child in the memory as well he greets Mika and returns his question of why he is a kid. After Mika details that being kid-sized uses less energy, a desire of Yu's is sensed where he wanted to go back to when he was a kid too. Feeling it is a good point, Yu notes that was when everyone was still alive where Akane and Hyakuya orphanage family members are envisioned.

Given the environment in the memory, Yu turns to address where they are. Voicing how this has to be really far in the past, Yu comments further on how he has lived a long time to have such memories.

“	Heck... This has to be really, really, reeeally far in the past. Boy, I've lived a long time.	”
–Viewing the ancient Greek setting he is in within the memory and commenting on the potential length of his life. Chapter 122: "Calories for Travel" Page 5

Despite it being his memory, it is not ringing any bells for Yu. With as long as he has lived, Yu asks Mika does he think he is going senile. As they walk, Yu has not noticed what Mika has. Realizing that Mika is alarmed, Yu has his arm taken by him as they both hurtle behind the cover of some pillars. Asking him what, Yu has his mouth covered as he hears Mika say the First is here. Unsure what to make of it, Yu with his mouth remaining covered by Mika peers round the pillar.

There is a scenario Yu sees of Sika Madu walking while accompanied by Gekkouin, also Byakamaru, with Raimeiki and Noya as well. Additionally, Yu finds Krul and Asuramaru wearing their modern-day clothing are present. Surprised at the scene, Yu tells Mika he is right. Not sure whether they will be noticed, Yu raises how these are their memories. Hearing they are specifically his memories, Yu speaks how he gets the feeling that since Mika is his demon, then some of his memories are mixed with his own somehow.

Watching Mika consider the potentially mixed memories, Yu then speaks how the others are getting closer. Concealed behind the pillar, Yu and Mika cover one another's mouths as Sika Madu and his entourage pass by. Lying on the ground, Yu looks out from behind the pillar and speaks with Mika how they left and can they come out now.

With Mika concerned that the First noticed them when they looked at his past before, Yu states that is because he was really close then. Asking Mika if he can feel the First now, Yu questions where he is. After Mika senses he is really far and weak for some reason, Yu agrees with the feeling.

In establishing what is possible in the confines of the memory, Yu asks a man in the ancient setting whether he can see him. From the lack of response, Yu guesses he cannot. Although he sees physical contact is in fact possible, Yu notes how the people around definitely do not see them, and he wonders why. After Mika elaborates on how they are a part of his memories yet are solid in a similar manner as the ground is, Yu checks whether the First they just saw could see them back or if that was just him in the past.

Given that things can touch them and so there is a risk of damage should they be attacked, Yu agrees with Mika it is a good point to stay clear of Sika Madu and others around him. Yu guesses if they see him again then he and Mika should run. Meaning to dig through his memories while staying clear of the First, he asks Mika where he wants to go next in the memory.

“	We'll dig through my memories while staying clear of him. Where do you wanna go next?	”
–Intending to avoid Sika Madu in the memory and asking Mika for the next destination. Chapter 122: "Calories for Travel" Page 18

The direction the First came from seems safest, and after Mika adds he recalls a mansion from the memories, Yu is also aware of it and says he remembers. Outside the city among fields is the First's mansion and Yu with Mika have made their way to a vast underground chamber where a single casket is kept. Opening the doors to the room, Yu's expression changes to one of delight as he remembers there is this pretty kid who looks just like Mika here. With the casket in view, Yu states he is there inside that box.

Pleased to view the corpse of Mikaela through the glass, Yu tells Mika to see it is him. While Mika is unsure how it is him, Yu says to just look, they are identical. Speaking how Mikaela has got wings too, Yu bets he is an angel. Not commenting on how Mikaela is supposed to be the First's kid, Yu is asked what is wrong and replies it is weird. Yu remembers that long ago he would spend all day leaning on this glass.

Asked if he can remember any details, Yu answers he can't but knows he did such a thing. He was always here, watching and talking. Questioned on who he was talking to, Yu responds him in reference to Mikaela. Where the First said Mikaela was dead, Yu cannot remember what they spoke about. Frustrated, Yu says how he can remember as far back as his throat, but it will not come to him. There words are right there on the tip of his tongue, but they will not come out. Despite efforts to rouse his memory, Yu feels it is not good, he cannot remember.

When Mika raises how he remembers talking to that corpse, Yu confirms it then asks does he not remember it too. If this kid really is Mika, then Yu wonders would he not remember. After Mika describes hearing a really dumb-sounding voice repeating his name, Yu readily announces that was him. Where Mika feels the memories were recent and questions when he is not annoying, Yu insists he is not dumb or annoying.

Satisfied that they have seen everything at this point, Yu mentions for him and Mika to go further back into the past.

“	Anyway! I guess this is all we'll find here. Let's go further into the past.	”

With Mika wondering how far they can go and asking how long he has been alive, Yu merrily replies who knows. Commenting it is something he wishes he knew himself, Yu then says for them to go deeper in before asking how they do that again.

Witnessing Mika produce a circle of light above him, Yu's desires are energy used to allow them to proceed further. Hearing he is running short on energy, Yu is surprised it is so soon given he just ate. Seeing that Mika is right, Yu realizes he is hungry so he will go and eat quick. The arrangement is for Mika to set it up so they can transfer further back while Yu heads to eat. Saying how he will see him in a bit, Yu closes his eyes.

Having closed his eyes as a child in the memory, Yu returns to his physical self in the cabin within the Sea of Trees. Breaking into a smile, Yu feels elated and announces how this is great. It is like he and Mika are on an adventure together which Yu finds awesome.

“	Aaaaah! This is great! It's like we're on an adventure together. That's so awesome!	”
–Having returned to eat for energy, Yu has a reflective moment of joy at what he and Mika are experiencing. Chapter 122: "Calories for Travel" Page 31

Sliding the cabin door across, Yu locates the supply of food that was gathered and begins eating. Yu decides he had better eat a whole bunch so they can go even further back in the past. Hearing his name being called, Yu has his mouth full as he learns from Mika he has eaten plenty. Informed by Mika that he has opened the way to the past, Yu hears they can go way far back.

Hearing further from Mika that they may be able to go insanely far back into the past, Yu returns to his position in the cabin where he can sit and close his eyes to re-enter the memory. In his child appearance once more, Yu beholds the many shining circles in the chamber that Mika has created. Sharing how impressed he is, Yu praises Mika for doing great.

Updated that Mika cannot get the door to the past to open, Yu's view is directed to a large black door enveloped by a shimmering fiery like substance in the vicinity. Asking Mika if that door goes further back into their past, upon hearing yes, Yu considers how the door is slightly ajar.

Enquiring if Mika took a peek already, where he has, Yu excitedly asks what he saw. Guided to look for himself, Yu hears it is not good. For Mika's wonderings on what he really is if these truly are his memories, Yu guesses they will just have to take a look. Approaching the door, Yu places his hand on it and invokes it to open to show him what happened in his past.

Light is on the other side of the door as it opens. Finding the door opens to an outside landscape, Yu steps through to find the ocean visible. Turning to Mika to share it is just ocean, Yu states it is hard to tell how far back in the past they are with just that.

Hearing from Mika that it would be obvious in a minute, Yu asks how so. Guided to just take a look, Yu hears an animal like sound and wonders what said that. Turning to the source of the noise, Yu finds one Pteranodon among many in the area draw near him.

Astonished, Yu drops to the ground yet is surprised further to find his clothes have been seized by the Pteranodon. Silent, Yu can only be flown towards a Tyrannosaurus in the near distance. Horrified, Yu is also alarmed when the Tyrannosaurus bites the leg of the Pteranodon carrying him. Dropped, Yu lands on the ground below.

Directed by Mika to run, Yu does so and some distance away he registers the other dinosaurs around. Initially unable to speak the words, Yu manages to blurt out there are dinosaurs. The multiple shocks replaced with awe, Yu excitedly tells Mika that there are real live dinosaurs.

Beside Mika he beholds the varied dinosaurs before them, and marvels at how they are the real things. Where Yu is looking at real dinosaurs, he then wonders if Mika is serious as these are his memories. Questioning if he was born in the age of dinosaurs, Yu then wonders did humans even exist back then.

Hearing that the humans they recognize today only evolved 10,000 to 20,000 thousand years ago, Yu asks when the age of dinosaurs was. With it being something like a hundred million years, Yu gives some thought on how he has been alive eight years ago when the catastrophe occurred, yet also when humanity evolved 10,000 years ago, then further back 100 million years ago during the age of dinosaurs.

Incensed at these facts, Yu wonders what the heck is going on with his past and demands to know if he is a dinosaur.

Addressing how this place is in his memory, Yu raises does that mean that he would have to be nearby in the memory they are viewing. Hearing a rustle, Yu finds a four-legged lizard appear. In response to Mika pointing to the lizard after Yu wondered would he be here, Yu replies no, just no. It is the age of the dinosaurs, and with that Yu says to at least let him be some big, cool one.

Agreeing with Mika that the lizard near them is staring at them, Yu states it has got to be a coincidence. Where the lizard indeed appears to be staring intently right at them, Yu questions is that seriously him.

The words "found you" are heard, and Yu looks up to who spoke them. Having hidden with Mika behind a tree in response to Mikaela appearing to speak to the lizard, Yu observes the interaction. Speaking to Mika on how Mikaela is here, Yu asks does that not mean this is Mika's memory and not his.

“	Wait a sec. He's here? Doesn't that mean this is your memory, not mine?	”

After a shadowy entity with a large eye bursts from the lizard's mouth, Yu is stunned to see that something popped out. As Mikaela flies away with the shadow being with him, Yu observes them in the sky. Turning to Mika to speak how they are flying away, Yu asks him if they know how to fly.

“	Uh, they're flying away. Do we know how to fly?	”
–Turning to Mika for the answer having thought about the idea of flying after Mikaela and the shodowy orb in the memory. Chapter 123: "An Ancient Game of tag" Page 22

Seeing that Mika is unable to fly, Yu joins him in running after Mikaela who heads towards a smoking mountain. Questioning do they really have to run after them, there is the concern that they can barely be seen. Worried that they will never catch up, there is also the issue that they could get stuck here.

Asking if Mika cannot eat some of his desire and get stronger, Yu hears it is no good. Wondering if he himself does not have enough desire to eat, Yu hears it is calorie related again. Accordingly, Yu tells Mika he will go eat quickly. With Mika fine with it, Yu states he will be back in a sec. Closing his eyes, Yu vanishes from the memory.

Blinking, Yu is physically back within the cabin near Mt. Fuji. Commenting how Mika is right, now that Yu realizes it he is starving. After remarking that this memory stuff is so fuel inefficient, Yu has taken to enjoying the food eaten and is full again. Promptly returning to where he was sat, Yu closes his eyes. Back within the memory, Yu reappears as a child beside Mika.

Announcing that he is back, where his strength has returned, Yu is ready to resume seeking out Mikaela and the sphere with Mika. With Mika able to generate his demon features, Yu is pleased to also feel it and says for them to go. Able to leap into the air along with Mika, the vantage point allows them to see a figure in the sky ahead which Yu focuses on.

Ensuring they are both on course, Yu says to Mika they are that way. Landing after the jump, Yu is ready to run to their location past the mountain. Satisfied with bounding through the forest, Yu makes it with Mika to the rocky landscape of the mountain.

Fatigued, Yu is walking behind Mika before seeing that his tail is gone. Speaking how Mika is not a demon anymore, Yu also regards his own hand where he does not feel any strength either. Hearing Mika's guidance that they will need to conserve energy, Yu and him approach the summit of the mountain.

“	Ah. You aren't a demon anymore. I don't feel any strength, either.	”

Where Mika sees ahead first and ducks, Yu asks him what. His question is whether Mika lost sight of angel Mika. In response to Mika's silent look, Yu then asks is there something on the other side of the cliff. Following Mika's pointing, Yu moves to view what is ahead. Stunned, Yu observes some structures within the crater where a thin structure rises at an angle upwards.

Beholding the man-made appearing formations that consist of a range of many towers, and ringed concrete-like structures, where there are also seraphs along with floating black eyes in the air, Yu absorbs the scene in a state of disbelief. Sharing the look with Mika, he speaks how there are a whole bunch of guys who look like the First.

Addressing what era is this again, Yu mentions if it is the age of angels. From what has been witnessed, Yu speaks this is bigger than he thought.

Having entered the city Yu absorbs the sights of the seraphs and eyeball beings amongst the buildings around them. After Mika notes there are no humans to be seen, just seraphs, Yu adds they cannot be seen by them either. Reminded that they can still be run into, Yu narrowly avoids an eyeball being that has drawn close.

Asking Mika where do they go now, Yu questions do they just have to looks for angel Mika.

With the name "angel Mika" asked about by Mika, he responds it is referring to the angel that looks like him. Wondering if he remembers, Yu envisions Mikaela as Mika robed with wings. Hearing it is hardly the most imaginative name, Yu wonders where he went. There are so many angels flying around and Yu is not sure they will be able to find him.

There are floating translucent objects that Mika points out that may be maps which Yu is intrigued by. Closer to them, Yu registers the indiscernible text, and overlapping circles inscribed there. As for whether they can be read, the answer is no. When Mika states this is his memory though, Yu replies that it could be his.

Asked what now, Yu gives the matter some thought. His thinking expression changes to one of joy where Yu enthusiastically asks Mika if he wants to wander around the place looking. Unconcerned with how big this place is, Yu reasons that if they go in every building, he is sure they will find Mikaela eventually. Hearing that this city may be ten times larger than Shibuya or Shinjuku, Yu asks Mika what else are they going to do, they do not have a ton of choices here.

Satisfied with Mika's lack of an answer, Yu feels that decides that. Running ahead, Yu announces for them to go. Yu runs forward as the seraphs and eyeball beings head on their way in the memory. From his place in the city, Yu would not be able to see that the city he is in forms a pentagram when viewed from space.

Back to back with Mika and resting on the ground, Yu is now weary from the search. Having not located Mikaela, along with the impossibility of it, Yu notes the sun is going down too. Agreeing with Mika that things were looking dark even without that, Yu adds he is getting hungry. Wondering if angels eat, Yu asks Mika if he saw any restaurants, namely any ramen places.

Thinking when asked if he wants to zip back to grab some food, Yu looks up to find Mikaela floating past with the eyeball being. Realizing it, Yu is at a loss for words and he tries to communicate. Asked what is up, Yu can only blurt out ice cream cones given Mikaela was carrying two. Where Mika observes there is indeed an ice cream thing within view, Yu tries to say he does not mean that. Pointing, Yu is able to blurt out angel Mika.

As Mikaela flies up into the air, Yu confirms this is bad since he is super hungry right now. Asking if Mika can chase him, there is the question of whether the strength is there, and the concern of losing Mikaela now. Requesting that Mika run, Yu vanishes while saying he will go eat quick. Conscious in his body within the shack, Yu stumbles to the next room to eat while asking how many times they are going to do this.

Re-entering the memory in his child form, Yu drops to where Mika is, namely on a high ledge. Announcing he is back, Yu is startled to see the sheer drop below. Noting with Mika how they are really high up, Yu is updated that angel Mika may be going to that tower which he looks to.

Observing the super huge tower which he sees is going all the way up to the sky, Yu notes that is where Mikaela is going. With Mika checking whether he is up for reaching it, Yu is reminded of himself liking high places. Having figured Mikaela might be going there, Yu thought if he kept picking high places then Mika would start to think that he was dumb or something. Hearing Mika joke that being dumb is one of the few things he is good at, Yu guesses he has got to work hard so he can get even dumber.

Positively beaming, Yu is happy with Mika's assessment on him trying to save everything. Feeling Mika has a good point, Yu says for them to do this. With a demonic aura radiating from him, Yu enthusiastically uses his demon powers to leap up to where Mikaela is flying. Upon hearing Mikaela mention his father though, Yu drops with Mika to the ground.

For the father mentioned, Yu asks Mika does Mikaela mean the First. His next question from the conversation is does the First eat ice cream. After Mika answers probably since there were a whole bunch of angels in line for ice cream, Yu shares that is not what he thinks of when he thinks of angels.

There is a point in the tower that Mikaela entered, and Yu says to Mika for them to get climbing up from here. Yu asks which floor Mikaela went in, only to slump when Mika is unable to count that many due to the sheer amount. Aghast, Yu needs to know why Mika pretended that he could count such a number when he had a cool pose and everything as well. Unsure how they are supposed to fight if they are both dumb, Yu agrees with Mika that they should find something if they just go up the tower.

Through a rectangular access point through the circular wall around the tower, Yu appears in awe of the inner scene. There are dark squares across the tower of which communications can be had with seraphs. A seraph is welcomed to the Tower of Babel, yet the communication involving unrailed elevator technology to return habitants to paradise is not heard fully as Yu with Mika take the chance to head through the door that opened for the seraph.

Making it through the door past the seraph, Yu reaches what appears to be an innermost room which contains elevators on the walls. As seraphs and eyeball beings head up one, Yu looks to Mika. Approaching an elevator, Yu looks around as Mika checks the featureless buttons. Asked which floor, Yu details how angel Mika went up so suggests he and Mika start on the highest floor.

Transported upwards, Yu reacts to the sight he comes across. Within a room seemingly under a starlit sky, where Sika Madu is seated and surrounded by screens, Yu turns to Mika to note there he is, they found him. Apprehensive within the room, Yu raises with Mika how they are not hidden at all. Asking whether Mika is sure this is smart, Yu checks with him if the First is not going to spot them.

“	Uh, we aren't hidden at all. Are you sure this is smart? The First isn't going to spot us, right?	”

After Mika answers probably not, Yu says yikes in response. Where Sika Madu is reading from levitating screens, Yu asks Mika what the First is reading, and whether they could read it too. Asked by Mika if he wants to go and take a look, Yu states he has got guts. As he creeps closer with Mika, looking to the side Yu notices a window.

Looking outside from the Tower of Babel, Yu surveys part of the seraph civilization. Asking if this is really the age of the dinosaurs, Yu continues to say that it looks like they are in some way far-future city. His attention brought back to Mika who is approaching Sika Madu, he questions whether Mika can read the screens. When Mika expresses surprise, Yu is curious as to whether it says something amazing. Finding Mika cannot read it at all, Yu says for him to quit that.

Beside him and close to the screens, Yu sees what Mika means about not being able to know what is said. In looking at the text, Yu finds he is able to read parts. Speaking what can be made out, Yu mentions the sun's power and darkening it. From the various screens, Yu can read text concerning creating servant tribes and resurrecting the dead. Both of these are strictly against the law and Yu concludes to Mika he thinks that it was is said.

When Mika says he knew this was his memory, Yu asks if he is sure. Encouraged to not focus on who he is but to keep reading, Yu questions whether he has to. It is really hard and makes him use his brain so much that he already has a headache. Yu adds it also uses a ton of calories to read the text.

From Mikaela having entered the room in the memory, and Sika Madu having the screens disappear in response, Yu is surprised to see the text fade out of sight. Turning to see him, Yu is shocked as he notes it is angel Mika. Complying with Mika attempting to have them be quiet, Yu watches the interaction between Mikaela and Sika Madu.

Listening, Yu hears that Sika Madu had forbade Mikaela from going into town. Yu is stunned as he hears Mikaela mention in conversation that the eyeball being with him is called Yu. Responding to Mika, he asks whether that is really him and if this stuff is all that thing's memories.

Continuing to view the past exchange, Yu hears Mika speak that actually it is angel Mika that seems kind of like him. Agreeing it is true, Yu feels Mika has a point. There is a question of whether the other one is him. Yu is again silent after Sika Madu tells Mikaela that when one names a thing it could curse them with a heart.

Focusing on how Mikaela is acting, Yu speaks to Mika on whether he saw that. Commenting that Mikaela is acting like a cute puppy dog, Yu is sure that he himself would never get like that. Told he does kind of get like that, Yu is surprised. With Yu trying to speak how Mika is the one who is more Mikaela like rather than himself, he pays no further mind that he may be the homunculus that the eyeball being is. In focusing on Mikaela interacting with Sika Madu before him, Yu apparently has no idea that he is able to be seen within this memory by the homunculus from the past.

As Sika Madu and Mikaela discuss the ice cream, Yu continues his line of thought with Mika. After Mika comments that Mikaela is self-centered which is regarded as a Yu trait, Yu responds yes but he is weak in regard to his constitution. His attention drawn to Mikaela coughing. Yu can only watch as Mikaela drops to his knees having dropped his ice cream.

Concentrating having heard Sika Madu is sending Mikaela to a cleansing room since he spent too much time outside, Yu feels the First is lying that Mikaela would get better as he said. Watching as Mikaela floats away on a levitating platter, Yu in seriousness concludes this has to be the memory of when angel Mika died.

From what he saw, Yu feels that the First actually loved his kid. Yu disregards that Sika Madu told Mikaela he named him to curse him and was not overly receptive to his hugs or joyful demeanor. Yu may have seen such love displayed in Sika Madu asking Mikaela how he would feel if the First done what he did and became upset, and in stating that he would get better. Regardless, approaching Sika Madu as he stands in the memory, Yu has himself and Mika in mind. He orders the First to say what he done to Mika and him.

Apparently not having gained answers there, Yu is outside with Mika in the memory in a scenario overlooking Sika Madu address a large gathering of seraphs. From what was witnessed Yu heard Sika Madu hailed as the king of Earth, which among the satellite kingdoms has formed the highest tower. Photons, the source of Sika Madu's kind's powers would have also been seen.

From the memory showing the humanoid seraphs of Bael and Paimon, there are also Amon, with Belial, and Astaroth. Then Marbas, also Bathin, and Berius. With Raum, and Orobas, as well, Yu says to Mika how he thinks he has seen those angels before. After Mika places the names Urd and Saito as to who the seraphs resemble, in agreeing, Yu addresses how their names are different. Glancing to the sun as Mika does, as for the seraphs desiring to return to a paradise there, Yu shields his vision while commenting how it is so bright.

By nightfall, Yu with Mika follows Sika Madu and Paimon through a corridor. Learning that Mikaela was an experiment, and seraphs are forbidden from creating life so he must be disposed of to avoid divine punishment, Yu listens further as Paimon wishes to spare Sika Madu from any repercussions. That there is a plague endemic to seraphs, which Sika Madu means to address, and get them all to paradise using the energy from Babel Tower are further details he hears.

It is the words that Sika Madu himself will dispose of Mikaela in five days that Yu is seen surprised at. After Paimon indicated he believed Sika Madu's intent and they parted ways, Yu looks to the former as he walks away. Remarking that it sounds like a lot was going on, Yu follows Mika outside to where Paimon went.

Witnessing Paimon speak with Bael that they would have to kill Mikaela themselves, Yu observes the conversation underway. Registering that Paimon wants Sika Madu and everyone alive, never mind his own ill wellbeing, but that Bael wants them all to be together even in death, Yu listens with his arms crossed and having a serious expression.

Speaking, Yu asks Mika who he would back. Hearing that Mika would back Urd (the name they call Bael who he physically resembles) Yu thinks he would do the same. Happy and extending his hand, Yu declares if they have to die he would want it to be together.

While Mika considers his hand but is also contemplating the matter of if they do not manage to save everyone, Yu concentrates on telling him to just take his hand already. Stating that they can worry about the thinky stuff later, Yu adds at least that is what he would say. When Mika states he can hear him saying it too, he laughs before finding his high five has been returned.

As Paimon speaks how he wants to protect Sika Madu from divine punishment, Yu is curious to hear what Mika has to say about how that complicates things. After Mika frames it as the First is shouldering all the responsibility for what happens, and how he would refuse to allow that, Yu gives it some thought. Speaking how it is weird, Yu says it feels like they are all repeating the same conversations. Explaining what he means to Mika, he mentions the spot the First is in here before questioning is it not a lot like the one Guren is in.

Unable to say why, Yu finds that is kind of ticking him off. If everybody is doing the same things over and over again, Yu questions does that make this hell. For the Tower of Babel before them, on whether paradise is supposed to be that way, neither are sure whether that is the direction to heaven.

For Yu personally, where Mika and all their friends are is heaven to him. Exchanging a look with Mika, he then mentions if this really is hell then the First has been stuck in it for a long time. Looking back to the corridor from the outside, it is wondered what is going to happen next.

Physically in the cabin, Yu eats a bread like snack while commenting how he gets really hungry. Having a drink as well, he feels the hunger always comes when memory events are getting good. Yu guesses accessing the past is not that easy.

“	Phew! Boy, do I get really hungry! And it always gets too bad to ignore right when things are getting good too. I guess visiting the past isn't all that easy, huh.	”

Once a Cola has topped off his tummy in his words, Yu speaks how it is time to go back to Mika. Heading into the next room, Yu seats himself and hopes he will be in time before closing his eyes to return to the memory. Appearing in his child form, Yu is pleased to announce to Mika that he is back. His attention is drawn to Mikaela in his room with the homunculus named Yu.

Hearing the noise from the corridor before Mikaela in the memory does, Yu discusses with Mika how someone is coming. From the coughing, Yu cannot believe that it is Paimon who enters Mikaela's room where he is referred to as Saito as the name he is known by them. Along with Mika he witnesses a fierce battle when Paimon attacks Mikaela where they both generate light based powers. After a detonation has blasted apart the walls of the Tower of Babel, Yu is amazed at how angel Mika has got power.

When Paimon succumbs to the effects of his illness and begins to explain to Mikaela that he means to kill him for the King, Yu pays attention to the change in the direction of the conversation. After a beam of light breaks through the tower, Yu stands amongst the aftermath of the scene and is amazed. Witnessing Paimon stab himself, when Mikaela glances towards the knife Yu appears to register his intent.

Where Mikaela feels his father is in trouble on account of his own existence and regards the knife once more, Yu focuses on this. To the memory of Mikaela, Yu speaks for Mika to not do it. Yu can only watch in shock as Mikaela picks up the dagger and holds it to his neck.

Once Sika Madu comes across the scene of Paimon, and his son lying dead, Yu stands wordlessly near Mika and looks to the corpse of Mikaela. Disturbed, Yu speaks to Mika how it was suicide. Yu watches as Bael arrives in the room of the memory and is horrified to discover Paimon deceased. After Sika Madu shares his anguish over Mikaela's loss, Yu lowers his head slightly as his considers the scenario.

While Bael has expressed familiarity with Sika Madu's resistance, Yu watches him leave as he carries Paimon. Where Sika Madu remains alone with Mikaela, he listens as he comments how he is lost and unsure what to do. Although not seen directly it is likely that Yu would have observed that Sika Madu told other angels that they were to return to paradise now that the Tower of Babel had enough light, but would instead attempt a resurrection. Similarly Yu may have observed that the homunculus named Yu darkened the halos of light in Space before being attacked by the trumpet using seraphs. Then the destruction of the seraph civilization by another humanoid angel left Sika Madu cursed as an undead might have been viewed.

What Yu did observe was a millennia after the fall of the seraph civilization, Sika Madu found that the homunculus named Yu had secured Mikaela's coffin. The light stored in the seven keys were needed as a different means of resurrection, yet Sika Madu has to restore Mikaela as an angel first. At this time, Yu sats on the grass beside Mika in the memory as they witnessed the first human seen on Earth being formed. Where the child looks like himself, and after he speaks Yu raises with Mika whether that is the first him.

While Mika wonders whether it is him, Yu asks him which one is he then. Although unsure, it is reasoned that one of them have to be here since this scenario would not be in their memories otherwise. After the homunculus emits another human child, one with light colored hair, Yu remarks to Mika does that one not look like him. While the children being made are naked, Yu has apparently not noticed that one seems to be a girl.

After the homunculus produces a larger number of children all in one go, where there are fifteen at least in total, Yu stares in a state of surprise. Shocked that whole bunches of them are being born, Yu continues to watch the events of the memory. Not sharing what he makes of Sika Madu having the homunculus instil greed into the humans, neither the souls of the dead angels being raised to fly into the children, Yu along with Mika instead pay attention to the child that looks like him interact with the deceased Mikaela.

Realizing that the child is being communicated to by Mikaela who lies still within his coffin, Yu seeks Mika's view on whether it is what they think is happening as he points towards it. Thinking to check, Yu sees what Sika Madu is focusing on. Yu comments to Mika that the First has not noticed before they make their way closer to where the youth is interacting with Mikaela.

Approaching as the child evidently hears from Mikaela that his name is Mika, he stops some distance away. Listening as the youth asks what Mikaela means that he is dead, Yu speaks to Mika to wait a minute before noting that they are talking. Asking Mika how the child and Mikaela are talking together, Yu states he does not get it.

“	Uh, wait a minute. They're talking. How is he talking to him? I don't get it.	”

Questioned if he is sure he does not remember, Yu listens as Mika explains if this is his memory then he should remember what was said. Surprised, Yu asks if this is his memory. Requesting that he hang on, Yu says he does not hear anything. Thinking that something is in the way, Yu does not know what though. After the child speaks aloud that he understands Mikaela wants to put his soul into his body to save his dad, Yu is shocked at what was said.

Once the child in the memory is seemingly struck by the soul of Mikaela, physically in the cabin Yu is in a similar position on his knees. Thinking how he remembers, all of it, Yu says aloud that he is Mikaela.

“	I remember. All of it. I... ...Am Mikaela	”
–After Mikaela's soul entered the body of the child who looks like him, rather than that human, Yu feels he is in fact Mikaela. Chapter 129: "The First Vampire" Page 41

As Mika appears to join him in the cabin, Yu's thoughts turn to him. Pointing, Yu questions who he is. From the memories it transpired that Mikaela had asked Yu the homunculus to switch identities with it. Accordingly, Sika Madu would not be able to resurrect Mikaela's body as that was the homunculus imitating him, while Mikaela's actual soul was concealed in a human body. Mikaela was to gather the keys of light the homunculus called Yu scattered as they sought their means of resurrecting others. Speaking how he is starting to remember, Yu comments to Mika how he found him. Not having any memories of what transpired, Yu asks Mika if he had any.

After Mika comments how he would have given into despair if he had memories with how long events had taken, Yu agrees before remarking how the vampires all live a really long time and they seem to hate it. Questioning what it means to live then, Yu speaks how if they are al just going to die anyway, then forget. What resembles an existential crisis continues as Yu asks where is the point to living, and why bother bringing everyone back to life. As part of it, Yu asks Mika why he is trying so hard to turn him back into a human.

Asking what was Mika's answer to that again, Yu considers his view that they were both to go and live a quiet, peaceful life together before passing away together as the only answer. Noticing some ants nearby, Yu remembers that running away thing before raising how Mika stated that he could not change anything no matter how hard he works. Yu questions why bother working at all.

Entertaining the idea, Yu raises if he even did run somewhere and die quietly would that make Mika happy. When Mika guesses it would, Yu addresses how he cannot hold out for much longer. At the rate things are going, Yu has noticed that Mika will turn into a full demon.

“	Oh yeah. That running away thing. You said I can't change anything, no matter how hard I work. So why bother working at all? Heck, even if I did run away somewhere and die quietly... Would that make you happy?	”
–An existential crisis turns to him addressing what Mika may want, as Yu has caught on that he is changing into a full demon. Chapter 130: "The First Vampire" Page 29-30

Confirming to Mika that he noticed, Yu asks him what will happen when he is a full demon. Two possibilities Yu thought of is that he will try to possess him, or try to leave. Answering the question himself, Yu says he bets Mika will just try to leave. Not as impressed as Mika after hearing his response that he noticed that too, Yu demands to know if Mika thinks he will let that happen.

“	You think I'll let that happen?	”
–His determined response when Mika implies he will leave before becoming a full demon to avoid the risk that he would be possessed. Chapter 130: "The First Vampire" Page 31

It is recalled how Yu was present when Ferid murdered their orphanage family when there is the idea of not walking away from them. Rather than focus on what the past memories may means for them, Yu changes the subject to explain that the only thing they can say is that they do not remember clearly. Yu states the "us" they saw way back then is not really them. They are who they are now, and that's it.

Standing, Yu additionally announces that he is not going to give up on Mika. It is the same for not giving up on Akane and the kids, either. Yu also wants to save Guren and the others from what they are suffering under too.

Speaking with Mika, he mentions how that is kind of a lot. Turning to how he does not get what happened to the old them, Yu also does not know what goes on after they die and that, but if the them they are today die then they are dead. Affirming they are who they are in this life they know, Yu is adamant that they cannot afford to die.

Framing it as basically akin to a game, Yu details how they now know that this is a super hard game where they have to fight angel bosses and god bosses. Fine with saying they are just weak humans who keel over and die like nothing, Yu continues that despite that they are still going to find some way to make it work and win. Enthusiastic all the while, Yu asks Mika if that's it.

With it summarized as they try hard, Yu agrees with the notion. Along with Mika they went to the past looking for information to help them win, not to get away. Leaning and beaming at him, Yu declares to Mika that he is not letting him get away. His answer in case Mika does have thoughts of leaving before becoming a full demon and potentially endangering him, Yu means for them to remain together until they die.

–Concerns of the past are put aside as Yu affirms that he and Mika are going to remain and prevail. Chapter 130: "The First Vampire" Page 34

Seeing a means of progression, Yu feels now they know the rules of the game. If they know the game, Yu reaons they can make rules. Adding that he and Mika are not players anymore, Yu announces they are the game designers. Seeking Mika's input, Yu asks him who is going to win in the end.

Satisfied with Mika's response that they are going to win, Yu agrees right before stating for them to do this. His and Mika's next course of action is for them to get the seven sinful keys. Yu states they will do whatever it takes to do it.

“	Right?! Let's do this! We're gonna get the seven sinful keys! And we'll do whatever it takes to do it!	”

Regarding the sky above, Yu ponders how Heaven is up there where down here is supposed to be Hell. His attention drawn to Mika's voice, Yu is warned that something is coming in his direction. For the large bear attempting to strike him, Yu calmly readies his sword while saying sorry but he has to eat the bear. Unsheathing the weapon and leaping ahead, Yu dispatches the bear. Asked by Mika how many that makes now, Yu replies this is the third.

Pleased to see that Mika has acquired two boars, Yu hears how they have to remain topped up on good as he has horrible energy efficiency. Agreeing, Yu adds how Mika keeps gobbling up all of his strength. Yu states it is smarter to hunt for food while they are able, and save the rations for when he really needs them.

Directed to butcher the meat, Yu says to let him take his top off first. He does not want to get blood on it due to the issue of doing laundry out here. Wishing he could have curry, Yu comments how he misses that stuff. With Mika mentioning his last day as a human, Yu is stated to swiped his share of the curry. Mortified, Yu protests he did not and set his share aside.

Asked whether the kids liked their last meal, Yu remembers his and Mika's orphanage family indeed happy enjoying their dinner. Rather than detail how they liked it, Yu answers Mika that their family said they wished they could have shared it with him. Silent at Mika betting it was boring without the main character of himself around, Yu hears him say they will just have to bring them all back and have a big curry dinner together.

Questioning whether Mika can eat, Yu meanwhile uses his sword to prepare the acquired food. After Mika mentions he will be a human again by that point so will be able to eat, Yu notes how somebody is suddenly optimistic. With Mika raising how Yu already made up his mind so may as well get used to the idea, he is questioned whether he is going to give up. Firmly responding no, Yu then states Mika could at least help him butcher the food gathered. Finding Mika's hand in his face, who has to think up plans, Yu protests loudly.

By nightfall Yu sits by the fire eating as Mika summarizes their plan. Having deciding their goal is to collect the sinful keys and bring Mikaela back to life, it is considered how Guren and Ferid are also involved. Once Mika states they do not know that they are planning, Yu shares how he gets the impression that Guren is trying to bring all of humanity back to life, Minus Mikaela.

Regarding Ferid's involvement, Yu responds is there anybody on this planet who knows what goes through that guy's head. Yu suspects that Ferid is probably thinking of the most warped, twisted thing ever. Surprised when Mika raises if he is not Mikaela given what they saw in the memory, once Mika mentions the possibility of Guren bringing back all of humanity but he as Mikaela will stay dead, Yu finds it confusing. As he continues to eat, Yu asks Mika if that is the case.

Understanding that the sinful keys can bring Mikaela back or all of humanity, Yu sees what is meant when Mika states that he is really the angel Mikaela. When Mika is happy that their positions have flipped as now he can be kept safe, never mind resurrecting humanity, Yu sees that is why Mika is suddenly so motivated. Yu adds Mika is almost as motivated as he was years ago. Yu views Mika's happiness that all he has to do is follow his ingenious instructions.

Hearing that Mika will save him no matter what, Yu is happy to note how he sure is excited. After Mika comments that he is not allowed to die when they have made it this far, Yu guesses so. Not appreciating that Mika was checking to see whether he would say that he means to sacrifice himself, Yu responds he wasn't going to say that, he is still confused about which one of them is which. Mentioning how the past him seemed like he was kind of smart, as for now Yu finishes Mika's sentence that he is even smarter before laughing.

Turning to the matter, Yu details if they do not know for sure which of them is which then they cannot pick yet. If they cannot bring angel Mikaela back to life, Yu feels one of the other of them could end up dying and they don't want that. After Mika wonders if bringing Mikaela back means Yu as he is will go away, Yu claims he does not mind either way. Where Mika does mind, Yu feels the same in that he would care if Mika disappeared.

Checking to see if he has things straight, Yu summarizes that the First's goal is to bring angel Mikaela back to life. After that, Yu feels Sika Madu means to use angel Mikaela's life wo bring all the angels back. As for Guren's goal, Yu says it is to use the sinful keys to bring all of humanity back.

“	Huh... Okay. So let me see if I have things straight. The First's goal is to bring angel Mikaela back to life... ...And then use angel Mikaela's life to bring all the angels back. And Guren's goal is to use the sinful keys to bring all of humanity back.	”

As he begins to asks what about his goal, Yu changes mid-sentence to question what angel Mikaela's goal was. Agreeing with Mika after he says it looks like he wanted to save the First, he also sees the logic in the reasoning that saving Sika Madu would mean letting him go on to bring all the angels back.

When Mika sees that God always metes out punishment for revivification, it may be Yu who envisions Guren holding the deceased Shinya in his arms, and Sika Madu cradling Mikaela. After pondering the matter a while, Yu speaks that his goal will be to not let God punish anybody.

Asked whether he is including himself in that statement, Yu listens as Mika details that him being brought back to life as Mikaela and getting punished in the First's place, and dying to bring angels and humans back is not something he will allow. Fine with that, Yu contently asks if Mika is going to think of a way to make it all work out.

If it comes to the point where he is to make a choice, Yu is asked to promise Mika that he will not ever decide to sacrifice himself for everyone else. As he gives this some thought, Yu is told Mika will not help him unless he promises to not give up on himself. Somehwat smiling, Yu asks what about the other way round. If they figure out somehow that Mika is actually angel Mikaela, would he promise the same thing. Yu says for Mika to not sacrifice himself no matter what and receives his response that he won't.

Where Mika is sharing his view of a cycle of sacrifices taking place, and that he feels he has already died, Yu and him are remembered as children when their family was murdered. As Mika describes himself as clinging to a meaningless un-life, Yu listens to what he has to say. Hearing Mika promise that this time they are going to win without any sacrifices, Yu them happily grins at him.

Asking whether it is him or is Mika beginning to sound more and more like his old self, Yu is asked to promise Mika that he won't give up on himself. Questioning whether Mika is sure that he can come up with a plan, Yu notes how the other guys are all super smart. For who he has in mind, Yu speaks how then is Guren and Mahiru. Then the First, then Saito, and Ferid too.

While Mika is about to point out the super-smart member of their team, Yu gleefully announces that it is himself. Once Mika takes into account how everyone else thinks he is angel Mikaela without knowing it is the opposite, Yu is intrigued at his announcement that he has a most twisted plan to blow everybody else out of the water. Lauding him, Yu praises the twisted-est most warped one of them all. Triumphantly ready to do this, Yu then wonders what exactly is the "this" that they are doing anyway.

Having acquired a vehicle from somewhere, Yu has driven himself and Mika some distance away from Mt. Fuji. When Mika comments how they have been experimental guinea pigs since forever, Yu listens to what he has got to say. Remembering their last name as Hyakuya from the orphanage, Yu notes it was because they were a part of one of the Hyakuya Sect's institutions. He listens as Mika details how the orphanage was visited by Saito, who was an angel back in their memory in reference to Paimon.

With Saito mentioned, Yu recalls how as a child he was kept in a jail cell. Crying, he looked to Mahiru who was outside and Yu had also seen Saito was present as well. At a later point in his childhood, Yu was brought to the Hyakuya Orphanage by Saito. He registers Saito's involvement in these events given the context of his background as a second progenitor. Back then, even before the vampires caught them, it was felt their lives were full of all kinds of crazy stuff.

Asked by Mika if he is starting to remember more, Yu guesses so. Regarding Saito, at first Yu was asking himself who he even was, but now understands. In response to Mika stating that he and Akane thought Saito was really nice, Yu agrees with the comment that now he is really terrifying. Yu adds that he got to see Saito and Mahiru at the same time.

After Mika says he has gone through too much of this life in a daze, Yu feels the same goes for him. Yu reasons that Mika gets that way because he does not have a strong enough will to live. As he continues to drive, Yu agrees with Mika it is probably the case that it was Saito or the First who was experimenting on them but he cannot tell who specifically. Yu also agrees both Shikama Doji and Saito are probably both behind the Demon Army (it is just Shikama Doji).

Coming to hope it is just the First and Saito as their conversation continues, he does not need anybody bigger than those two popping up. Agreeing that Ferid, then Guren and Mahiru are already enough, Yu then raises how there is that one angel that torched the First way back in the past. Where Mika describes him as way too big, Yu comments that angel is practically the Sun. After Mika says for them to not talk about the Sun since it is way too bright, Yu laughs in response.

Agreeing that he and Mika were made via experiments by either the First or Saito, he hears Mika's view that if they were made this way then their power must be needed by them. From what they saw in their memories, Yu opines that they need it to bring angel Mikaela back to life, or at least he thinks so. It is discussed how Shikama Doji and Saito must have been trying and failing a lot, for thousands of years.

Answering Mika why is that, Yu responds probably because they think he is Mika and Mika is him. After Mika details what do they have to be scared of since if they are caught the others will just fail to resurrect Mikaela again, Yu takes a moment to process this. Judging that Mika is right, Yu states it is a good point and that means they can interact with the vampires no problem. A most intriguing idea after the possibility of gaining info, is that the vampires can be convinced to fight with them against Guren to gain the sinful keys.

As he understands Mika's explanation of what he should do, Yu thinks he gets it. Checking with him, Yu elaborates that he has to make them think that he will be useful to their experiments. Additionally, Yu knows he is not to let on that he is actually Mikaela, not Yu as they would see him as.

“	Oh, I think I get it. So I have to make them think I'll be useful for their experiments... ...While not letting on at all that I'm actually Mikaela, not Yu.	”

Questioned if he thinks he can do it, Yu is sure he can. Appearing quite pleased with himself, Yu claims he is good at that kind of stuff. Cautioned that if he screws up and dies then everything is over, and asked if he is sure, Yu feels there is nothing for it but to do it, so he will do it.

Quite joyful in response to Mika sharing that he is worried, Yu asks is this not fun. It is totally their turn now. Even as far back as the orphanage, Yu details how it was always someone else's plan. Now it is their turn to have plans and trick people. Yu checks with Mika whether that is not fun. After Mika grinned happily that it was, Yu returns his beaming smile.

“	Yeah, but isn't this fun? It's totally our turn, now! Even as far back as the orphanage, it was always someone else's plan. Now it's our turn to have plans and trick people. Isn't that fun?	”

Having made his way to the Demon Army headquarters, Yu stands before a pair of doors with a focus for what is ahead. Entering the large room, Yu finds vampire progenitors awaiting there. Where Saito is in the centre of the room on a throne, Yu is seeing him again after a long time. Having been in the same vicinity as them at Osaka Bay, Yu finds Urd and Lest Karr there as well. Also in the room is Ky Luc who he battled against to free Krul, and then Yu is seeing Basteya Irclu for the first time.

Even though most of the group do not appear forthcoming, when Yu is noted as an unexpected guest by Saito, he appears determined when asked why he is here. Stepping forward, Yu breaks into a joyful greeting as he says hi to the vampires. His arms spread wide, Yu asks how are they all doing and adds there is something he wants to talk to them about. Unknown to him, Yu is regarded as a human on Ferid's side by Ky Luc.

In response to Ky Luc silently generating his weapon, Yu's tone changes once again this time to seeking to have him hold on. Clear that he is not here to fight, Yu states he just wants to talk. Beseeching him to listen a sec, Yu's talking is cut off by Ky Luc stating they cannot trust an abnormal human who can survive in this world. Both Yu's seeking for them to listen, and the offer of information to help them falls on deaf ears as Ky Luc turns to Lest Karr who indicates a readiness to battle.

“	Aww! Come on. Listen. I have info that will help you.	”
–Registering Ky Luc's hostile demenour and continuing to attempt dialogue. Chapter 132: "Battle to The First" Page 16

As Ky Luc further generates his sword and announces his intention to fight, Yu asks him to wait and listen to him. Once Ky Luc invokes his weapon to drink his blood, Yu registers talking is no longer practical as he readies his sword. Blocking Ky Luc's strike in time, Yu claims it is so strong. In response to Ky Luc taunting him to go berserk as he did before, Yu reveals he was bluffing. Sticking his tongue out at the fifth progenitor, Yu is happy to share he was just kidding.

Invoking Mikaela to slice it open, Yu has electricity crackle from the sword. Focusing on Ky Luc who has leapt away having expressed some alarm at this attack being generated, Yu is nevertheless able to slice his weapon arm off from a distance. It is probable Yu heard Ky Luc comment that he is stronger than before having taken evasive actions himself.

After having broken his way up to the floor above, Yu uses the sword to hold himself upside down on the ceiling there. Asking Mika if he thinks they can beat Ky Luc, he hears they do not have to, they only have to have them think they cannot kill them. Seeing that to be true, Yu guesses he will just have to say it then.

Calling aloud, Yu says for the First and Saito to listen up. From his place on the ceiling, Yu announces that their experiments succeeded. What he was going to say about them is cut short as Yu finds Ky Luc drawing close to him.

“	Hey, First! Saito! Listen up! Your experiments succeeded! We're...	”
–Attempting to relay details before coming under attack from Ky Luc again. Chapter 132: "Battle to The First" Page 22

Seeing him in time, Yu is also able to pull the sword out and parry Ky Luc away. Where they both rebound apart from one another, Yu lands on a wall opposite Ky Luc and keeps him in sight. They exchange a multitude of rapid clashes across the room before the battle is moved outside the building. Possibly breaking outside of his own accord, Yu above finds Ky Luc below yet comments in all seriousness how he is too strong.

Conscious that Ky Luc is this strong, and he is just a fifth, Yu is also aware that he is burning so many calories that he is getting hungry. Urged by Mika to hurry and cast the curse on them before he gets killed, it is something Yu knows but he barely has got time to say it. There is even less time as Yu spots Ky Luc leaping towards him.

Shouting that his memories came back, Yu announces that his goal is the same as theirs. Revealing that he has info about how to bring Mikaela back, Yu adds they cannot kill him in an attempt to remedy his and Mika's predicament. Upon that revelation, Yu's name is spoken by Shikama Doji from his prison on the Experimentation Room in the seventh floor of the Demon Army headquarters. His name apparently projected across the cityscape, Yu is called to by Shikama Doji himself. Grasping his head in no small amount of pain, Yu is surprised to hear voices.

Bidden to come to the First to bring an end to this long tale, Yu's name also comes up after Saito speaks for everyone to move and not let him reach Shikama Doji. Landing on the ground, Yu looks up to find vampire progenitors including Urd, with Lest Karr, and Saito close by.

Seeing how that is what it is, Yu learns that Saito and First are not on good terms. Asked by Mika what they should do now, Yu discusses how their curse worked where one faction has fallen for it. Yu feels they will not kill them, not after they have spent hundreds of thousands of years on this plan. Emboldened further, Yu claims loudly they had better get talking to both Saito and the First to make sure he and Mika can stay two steps ahead of them the whole time.

“	Then I guess we'd better get talking to both Saito and the First. To make sure we stay two steps ahead of them the whole time.	”
–Ostensibly seeking to talk, though a curse previously deployed has worked as the vampires draw nearer. Chapter 132: "Battle to The First" Page 33

Both Yu and Mika with him are spoken to by Saito and warned not to go. They are cautioned that the First is much scarier than he is, and that they will just be used by him. Without a word, Yu sheathes the sword. After Saito states he is listening and to tell him that info, Yu reveals it was subterfuge. Saying for him and Mika to do this, Yu has shadows enveloping his hand. Letting their power go berserk, Yu states for Mika to take it as far as he can.

“	Let's do this, Mika. Let our power go berserk. Take it as far as you can!	”

Elsewhere, Yu is remembered by Shinoa when he was firing lightning in the sky when he departed the squad with Mika. His name comes up when Shinoa is saying to Mitsuba of course she is upset since she had a crush on Yu, just like herself. He is mentioned by Mitsuba who is commenting on how Shinoa has been behaving ever since he left. Similarly, he is in mind when Shinoa prods Mitsuba into asking her whether she wants Yu's validation, which appears key in generating desire in Shinoa.

While not seen or mentioned directly, when Shinoa asks Mitsuba if it is the same for her, he appears to be in the latter's mind as she blushes profusely. Likewise, Yu is referred to when Shinoa is speaking of two girls being dumped by their love, and when Mitsuba is asked should they battle for his heart. Further, it would seem he would be a part of Shinoa's first real reason to live. Beneath the surface of this uninhibited conversation, practically Yu would be involved with Shinoa's ability to be able to summon and control other peoples' demons after such desires were fostered.

His name arises once more when Mitsuba asks Shinoa if they can save Yu. The same occurs when Shinoa half-jokes that she and Mitsuba will have to save their battle for his heart until they have him back. He is discussed by Shinoa Squad when Kimizuki clarifies whether their goal involves getting him back, which it does.

It is likely that Yu would be in the process of engaging the vampire progenitors when his name is thought of by Shikama Doji. On account of this, Yu may have heard Shikama Doji urge him to come, but this may have been impractical if he even wanted to reach the First. Accordingly, Yu would not know or be able to prevent Shinoa from accessing Shikama Doji's memories from where she was physically situated as she further sought to acquire Shikama Doji's power.

With Basteya along with Lest Karr then Saito and Urd as well within view, Yu states for his desires to be devoured. Shadows spread over his face and Yu forms demon fangs and horn as he says for Mikaela to go berserk. Likely unknown to him, but Yu's name is spoken by Shikama Doji who means to have darkness protect him.

Enraged with demonic power, Yu has assistance from streaks of darkness that the First sends against the vampire progenitors. While they attempt to avoid those attacks, Yu has and embraces the chance to target Ky Luc. As the vampires take measures to avoid Shikama Doji's shadows, Yu has another opportunity to attack where he heads towards Urd.

Although not successful in striking at any of the vampire progenitors, Yu has acquired time. Calling for Mika to do it now, Yu has four large black seraph wings form and he takes to the sky. While he is targeted by Urd and a lone feather falls, he is able to reach the side of the building that Shikama Doji's shadows broke out of.

His name thought of as Shikama Doji calls to him, Yu sees the First within a prison. Feeling he looks tired, Yu thinks it was the same in his memories. Yu does not know know how yet but he is here to save Shikama Doji who he calls father.

“	Yeah. You look tired... ...Just like you always did in my memories. I don't know how, yet... ...But I'm here to save you... ...Father	”

Approaching the prison, Yu is aware of Urd's incoming attack. In their sphere together, Yu speaks to Mika how the power being generated by Urd looks nasty. Asking Mika what now, Yu questions if he thinks they can block the whole thing.

Noting it is pretty big, Yu hears they would be knocked back at best where he observes they would not be able to hear what the First has to say. Where Mika feels the vampires have a curse that prevents them from killing, Yu answers that it looks pretty clear to him that Urd is very definitely trying to kill them.

After Mika explains if they are not resisting then the vampires should be bound by a curse to not kill them, Yu gives it some thought. Hearing they have options, Yu asks Mika what they are. Once Mika has said that he can block Urd's strike and Yu should toss the sword for Mika to attempt that, Yu responds is that not like suicide.

While Mika details that he cannot die and can regenerate using his desires, Yu addresses how that like sounds like it would leave him super hungry. Where it is better than dying, Yu comes to agree to the plan. Yu informs Mika he will toss the sword for him to carry out what they have arranged.

Conscious in his body, Yu retains his four black seraph wings as the column from Urd's attack lights up the sky. Hurling the sword, Yu's wings dissipate as he watches Mika travel with the weapon to hinder Urd's strike.

Having successfully reached Shikama Doji, the cage had also been accessed to get the First out. Carrying him to the top of another building, Yu comments how he is starving and almost totally out of energy. Shouting to the First that he is here, Yu says for them to talk.

Surprised to find Shikama Doji see through, Yu remarks how he is transparent. Questioning what happened to him, Yu is puzzled to hear the First respond that he is being devoured. Asking by who, Yu hears it is a human and is set on finding out who specifically.

Where the First has no time to explain, Yu is told he is to be bequeathed his remaining power and spells before they are taken. Watching as Shikama Doji manifests a circular power, Yu is surprised to see that before he witnesses Mika transported to join them.

Hearing that Rigr and Urd will be here soon, Yu listens as Shikama Doji addresses how he said Mikaela could be brought back. Asked if he can do what the First has failed to do for eons, Yu considers his answer before replying. Speaking he can, Yu states he can successfully bring Mikaela back. Yu just needs Shikama Doji to tell him the spell for it.

Questioned if he has been going about it wrong, Yu happily confirms that Shikama Doji indded has. Also answering yes that he knows what the First's mistake was, Yu is told the First will entrust everything to him. Yu observes as Shikama Doji manifests three spells, the method to resurrect Mikaela, then the method to hide the world from paradise, and the method to destroy paradise.

Somewhat shocked to see the physical constructs formed, Yu learns each spell involves a massive sacrifice. Asked if he is still willing, after a moment Yu is happy to state he has his memories back now. Telling Shikama Doji not to worry, Yu details he will be his successor. Yu adds he will resurrect all the angels.

Not saying anything about his connection to Mikaela, he observes as the light radiating spells are said to be left to him. A scenario shows Yu floating in the same light based realm as Shinoa. Appearing not able to know that Shinoa is there however, at Yu's back is a circular design which somewhat resembles the method to destroy paradise.

Physically on top of the building, Yu raises his hand for a light energy to be emitted from a round portal which he catches. Regarding the floating light in his hand, Yu comments good. He remains sat near Mika as Urd with Ky Luc then Saito and Lest Karr join them.
