"Maidens in Love" (恋するオトメ Koisuru otome?) is the one hundred and thirty-third chapter of the Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign manga series, written by Takaya Kagami and illustrated by Yamato Yamamoto.
Synopsis[]
Shinoa feels she has no value, and shares with Mitsuba when found. Shinoa raises how like herself, Mitsuba has a crush on Yu, and has started thinking about the meaning of life. Where Mitsuba wanted validation from anybody, it never occurred to Shinoa to crave that.
After Shinoa speaks how she loves her and regards her as family, Mitsuba asks if she wants Yu's validation. In discussing them fighting for the heart of one man, Shinoa has her first reason to live. Mahiru reportedly did everything she did for love as well. For motivation, there is the goal of rescuing Yu.
Yoichi and Kimizuki have overheard the conversation. Shinoa announces how they cannot have Guren, her sister, and the vampires outsmart them. For the wild topics that have been discussed, it resembles a process of indulging such fantastic desires, after which Shinoa displays a newfound ability to physically manifest Gekkouin and Kiseki-o to the world for them to obey her.
With her motivation, Shinoa engages Shikama Doji having purposely chosen a bad time for him. Shinoa devours the retaliatory darkness fired from the First and is laughing joyfully.

Summary[]
As the Sun shines above, Shinoa comments how the sky is so big and blue. Noticing some ants nearby, Shinoa speaks how under that sky the ants are tiny bugs with no inherent value, which she happily adds is just like herself.[1]
From the building she has reached, Mitsuba has discovered Shinoa sat below. After Mitsuba calls to her, Shinoa notices but is not talkative. Landing, Mitsuba questions what the heck Shinoa is doing out here then mentions how everyone is looking for her.[2]
From the back of the truck he headed out on, Yu is remembered blasting lightning into the air. Her thoughts concerning that event, Shinoa raises with Mitsuba how she was looking for her. After Shinoa asks what would she get in finding a valueless bug like herself, Mitsuba wonders what she means. Claiming that it is nothing, Shinoa says to pay her no mind.[3]
Instead, Mitsuba pulls Shinoa to her feet. No matter what Shinoa thinks she is, Mitsuba reminds her that they are still the Shinoa squad. Mitsuba feels that their squad leader being in a funk is going to worry the rest of the team. Judging it is a good point, Shinoa reveals her true thoughts on the situation by questioning whether Mitsuba is interested in being squad leader.[4]
Ordering her to not play dumb, Mitsuba cautions Shinoa that if she says that again she will punch her, as she does so. Once Shinoa points out she did just punch her, Mitsuba warns that next time she will do so in the face, to which Shinoa quips okay in response. Insisting that Shinoa seriously quit this, Mitsuba states she is not the only one who feels hurt. Mitsuba mentions how Yoichi does, as does Kimizuki, and even herself.[5]
Not looking to have appreciated the heartfelt display, Shinoa turns to announce her conclusion that the reason Mitsuba must feel hurt is because she did have a crush on Yu, as she herself did. Although Mitsuba is mortified at what was said, Shinoa continues in seriousness that they are sixteen and where they are growing up they are interested in those things.[6]
A problem Shinoa has identified as she glances towards Mitsuba however is how she can hope to overcome such a big rival, with the big aspect emphasized. After Shinoa reacts as if Mitsuba delivered on her intent to punch her, Mitsuba demands to know what has gotten into her. Once Mitsuba begins to address how ever since Yu disappeared, Shinoa interrupts that line of conversation to profess that it is nothing much. For the first time ever, Shinoa shares that she has started thinking about the meaning of life.[7]
Where Mitsuba is perplexed, she is asked by Shinoa whether she has thought about life, namely if she found her meaning. Responding that Shinoa knows what the world is like, Mitsuba explains she has been busy just trying to survive. Mitsuba looks to check whether Shinoa believes her answer, to which she clearly doesn't. Gathering as much, Mitsuba does have a different sentiment in mind.[8]
As her sister is envisioned. Aoi's words to her on whether she truly believed that there is any value in her life are remembered. Having recalled what Aoi said, Mistuba speaks to Shinoa how her big sister was an elite among elites, while in her view she was a defective little sister. As Shinoa earnestly hears her out, Mitsuba details how she was desperate in wanting her family, or anyone, to validate her existence.[9]
Responding that they are a lot alike, Shinoa feels she was luckier though. Describing herself as just a useless guinea pig, Shinoa mentions how nobody could be bothered to pay any attention to her in the first place, so it never occurred to her to crave validation. Accordingly, Shinoa is happy to say she has been cruising down easy street this whole time.[10]
Having heard that, Mitsuba questions did Shinoa's sister not try and save her. While Shinoa only found that out a while ago, Mitsuba affirms she had at least one person who loved her, something she did not have. In response, Shinoa affirms that she loves Mitsuba, lots and lots. Puzzled, Mitsuba hears Shinoa state that if she was ever on the verge of death, and she could give her life to save hers, then Shinoa would do it.[11]
With Shinoa meaning it, Mitsuba is surprised. When Shinoa shares that she already thinks of Mitsuba as her true family, Mitsuba is outright alarmed. Stating for this to not be so sudden, Mitsuba says she is embarrassing her. For what else she has to share, Shinoa covers how that is not a meaning for living. Revealing that she just does not value her life, Shinoa feels Mitsuba validating her or not would not make a difference.[12]
After Mitsuba asks forthrightly if she wants Yu's validation, Shinoa considers the question. Placing her hand on her chest, Shinoa is flushed while detailing how it hurts in there. For the matter, Shinoa asks Mitsuba if it is the same for hurt. Blushing wildly, Mitsuba has no comment. Realizing what is evident, Shinoa concludes Mitsuba does feel the same.[13]
Sat together, Shinoa speaks how if just the act of living means this much pain and suffering, then this world must surely be Hell. Not only that, Shinoa merrily states that her and Mitsuba were abandoned. Framing them as two hapless girls dumped by their love, Shinoa suggests maybe they should die. Dying just because of that would be a bad end to a bad life in Mitsuba's view.[14]
Wondering whether they should fight then, Shinoa covers it as the two of them locked in a dramatic battle for the heart of one man. Once Mitsuba questions would that be the first real reason to live she has ever found, Shinoa asks what about her. If Shinoa is going to do it, then Mitsuba declares she is on. After Mitsuba affirms she will win though, both her and Shinoa appear pleased.[15]
Looking back, Shinoa discusses how her sister was already an unstoppable monster when she was sixteen. Seeing that as true, Mitsuba regards Mahiru as the hero who invented cursed gear and saved the world. Curious at the hero term used, Shinoa clarifies that Mahiru was anything but. Labelling her a terror, Shinoa feels Mahiru made a mess for everyone.[16]
Listing Guren, then Shinya, and even Kureto, they are all regarded as dancing to Mahiru's tune. Not only that, Shinoa concludes Mahiru did it all out of love. At sixteen, Mahiru destroyed the world for the sake of the man she loved. Addressing how Mahiru said she was trying to protect Shinoa too, Mitsuba raises how it was because Shinoa had it worse than Mahiru.[17]
After Shinoa confirms Mahiru did it for her, Mitsuba states that for all that she is kind of a wuss. Asking her what happened, Mitsuba hears Shinoa ask if she thinks it was a lack of motivation and an achievable goal. In response to Mitsuba stating hell if she knows, Shinoa laughs.[18]
Turning to the matter of whether she has any plans, Mitsuba hears Shinoa answer who knows. For Mitsuba's question of whether they can save Yu, it is deemed a very good question by Shinoa. She supposes they will have to save their drama-filled battle for Yu's heart until after they have him back.[19]
When Mitsuba seeks her view on whether they can do it, Shinoa replies that everybody always loves a good story where the maiden in love wins. With that, Shinoa directs Mitsuba to bring the rest of the squad. Having noticed them already, Mitsuba finds Yoichi and Kimizuki right behind them.[20]
Now notifying them that they are already here, and with the sensitive details evidently heard, Yoichi attempts to say sorry while Kimizuki looks away. As Shinoa and Mitsuba are shocked and horrified respectively, Kimizuki attempts to convince them they did not hear anything, at least that is the story they are sticking to.[21]
Alarmed that they heard everything, the response is they had to know they were there. They were looking together after all. Mitsuba shouts that is why she clearly said that she was embarrassed. To that, Kimizuki retorts they why did Mitsuba keep talking after.[22]
Protesting how could she stop, Mitsuba points out this is the first time Shinoa has ever talked so much about herself. This seems something both Yoichi and Kimizuki also register. Having something to say, Shinoa asserts it is only fair for Yoichi and Kimizuki to tell them who they like now. To that, neither are remotely keen to do so.[23]
Gathering themselves for a particular topic, Shinoa announces to the squad members sat on the grass that she has been thinking. It is time for them to have a turn to do something, and so the announcement is the Shinoa Squad is active once again. Listing her sister, the Lt. Colonel and the vampires, Shinoa propounds that they cannot keep being beaten by them.[24]
Further deciding that they should be done with being fussy about the means, Shinoa proclaims they will beat them all, and live their lives how and why they want to. Mitsuba appears doubtful of where this is heading. Yoichi however is particularly keen on the idea and lightly applauds.[25]
Clarifying what the plan may entail, Kimizuki questions is it to bring their families back to life and also Yu back as well. Immediately delivering a yes, Shinoa states that sounds like an excellent idea. For the question of how is that different from Guren's plan, the realization is perhaps not by much.[26]
Regardless, Shinoa has the feeling they just cannot trust Guren or Mahiru, because they are not her, after all. As Mitsuba contemplates has been said, Shinoa puts forward whether they can bring themselves to trust her when she did not have a reason to live until recently. Answering first, Kimizuki states if he had to pick between the two then he would indeed take Shinoa. There is the concern though that they clearly have less power than the Lt. Colonel and the others.[27]
Giving some thought to the area concerning the power others may have, Shinoa has her answer for that by speaking for Gekkouin and Kiseki-o to obey her. A newfound power at Shinoa's disposal physically materializes Kiseki-o and Gekkouin before her. They are surprised, as is Mitsuba. Speaking their demons' names, Yoichi and Kimizuki are similarly shocked at this never before seen occurrence.[28]
According to her sister, Shinoa details she was created to control demons. Shinoa elaborates that Mahiru considered her the greatest experimental guinea pig. Now that Shinoa has the motivation, there may be some things she can do.[29]
Casting away Kiseki-o and Gekkouin as quickly as they were summoned, with them gone Shinoa closes her eyes to focus on another. Within her sphere Shinoa stands alone in emptiness. Calling for her heart's walls, Shinoa states that she lowers them. A section of physical walls lower, and Shikama Doji is revealed.[30]
Bloodied where he is kneeling, Shikama Doji notices Shinoa there. Her gaze fixed on him, Shinoa satirically remarks to look at him, she thought everything was going all according to his plan. Remarking that this is bad, Shikama Doji speaks not now. Delighted at the scene, Shinoa makes sure to check whether this is a bad time for him.[31]
Invoking the walls, Shikama Doji attempts to raise the prison back around himself. Ordering them down again, Shinoa returns the walls to their lowered position. Revealing that she is still ever so slightly connected to him, Shinoa shares how she made sure to pick a time when she knew Shikama Doji did not want her to come.[32]
Addressing her as human, Shikama Doji asks why Shinoa is here. Telling him why, Shinoa appears somewhat frenetic in asking Shikama Doji questions she knows the answers to. Postulating the questions for what is to come, Shinoa asks Shikama Doji if he was the one who built the Demon Army. Did Shikama Doji have her created, and did he dump these fates on her sister and herself are questions also asked.[33]
Glaring at her, Shikama Doji responds by calling for darkness to be fired at Shinoa. Ready to initiate a devour based power, Shinoa can split apart the shadow blasted at her. Curse like markings cover Shinoa's hand as she is able to stand firm.[34]
Wild with excitement, Shinoa laughs maniacally with utter elation. Beholding the scene, all Shikama Doji can do is say damn.[35]

–Shinoa alone away from the squad regards the sky before speaking to some ants she sees near her. Page 1-2 |
“ | No matter what you think you are... ...We're still the Shinoa Squad. Our squad leader being in a funk is going to worry the rest of the team! Duh! | ” |
–Mitsuba lifts Shinoa up after her having registered she feels valueless. Page 4 |
“ | Good point! Say, Mitsu. Interested in being squad leader? | ” |
–Shinoa responds to Mitsuba pointing out the leader feeling down is going to worry others, but hardly caring about her position. This is likely Shinoa's actual sentiment rather than commencing an indulging of her desires at this point. Page 4 |
“ | Seriously. Quit it with this crap! You aren't the only one who feels hurt. Yoichi does. Kimizuki does. ...Um... E-even I do! | ” |
–Mitsuba attempts to show empathy to Shinoa and reveals they all feel the same. Page 5 |
“ | True. You did have a crush on Yu. Just like me. We're sixteen! We're growing up. Growing interested in those things! | ” |
–Shinoa candidly speaks to Mitsuba, then follows up from her shocked response by justifying it. While not joking, the second part ties into Shinoa beginning to speak forthrightly, though the honest expressions are not no much a reveal of her feelings rather match a pattern of entertaining desires to generate a power she means to test. Page 6 |
“ | It's just, for the first time ever... ...I started thinking about the meaning of life. | ” |
–Shinoa interrupts the comment about how she has been since Yu disappeared. Page 7 |
“ | Pshh... You know what the world's like. I've been so busy just trying to survive... | ” |
–Mitsuba answers whether she found her meaning in life, before glancing to Shinoa to see if she believes her unconvincing claim. Page 8 |
“ | No. My big sister was an elite among elites... ...While I was just her defective little sister. | ” |

–Shinoa affirms she is one person who loves Mitsuba. Page 12 |
“ | Not only that, the two of us were abandoned. Tossed away! Two hapless girls dumped by their love. Doesn't that suck? Maybe we ought to die. | ” |
–Shinoa summarizes one view of their position, though possibly as a far-fetched risible scenario for the purposes of stimulating the fantastic desires that are helpful for manifesting the power she is attempting to form. Page 16 |
“ | Should we fight, then? The two of us, locked in a dramatic battle for the heart of one man... | ” |
–Shinoa's question for Mitsuba, though on her part it may serve as a reason to live as Shinoa energises a desire based power. Page 16 |
“ | Hero? Hah. She was anything but. She was a terror, making a mess for everyone. | ” |
–Shinoa reflects how Mahiru was already an unstoppable monster when she was sixteen. Page 18 |

We can't let them keep beating us. Enough being fussy about the means. We'll beat them all... ...And live our lives how and why we want to. | ” |
–Shinoa sets out her intention to the squad, and for the first time acts fully independent from those she has worked with. Page 24-25 |
“ | Can I take that to mean that our plan... ...Is to bring our families back to life, and also get Yu back? | ” |
–Kimizuki clarifies if Shinoa plans to re-affirm their goals, though he would then question how it is different from Guren's plan. Page 25 |
“ | But you know? I have this feeling we just can't trust the Lt. Colonel or my sister. They aren't me, after all. | ” |
–Shinoa comes to see herself apart from those she has been closest to and affected far more by than others. Page 26 |
“ | But can all of you bring yourselves to trust me... ...When I didn't have a reason to live until just recently? | ” |
–Shinoa raises the prospect of having her squad's trust, before even displaying the edge she has over other factions. Page 26 |

–Shinoa beholds Shikama Doji who she cannot believe appears compromised and able to be taken advantage of, a scene she marvels at intensely. Page 30-31 |
“ | I'm still ever-so-slightly connected to you... ...Shi. I made sure to pick a time when I knew you didn't want me to come. | ” |
–Shinoa aware of the remaining bond with the First, and opportunistically eager to add to his woes. Page 32 |
Chapter Notes[]
Cover Details[]
The feature image for chapter 133 concerns in-universe events as the story is underway from the start. Consisting of five panels, the first largest one features the sun above various ruined buildings. Shinoa is the only character included in the cover image, not including the multiple ants she sees. The feature image includes a speech bubble in which Shinoa comments on the sky.
Uncommon for the lettering to be featured in one area, it is all contained in the top left of the image in the second panel. The Seraph of the End logo is at the top with author related details underneath. The chapter number and title is a further distance downwards within the same panel.
- The chapter originally had a release date of January 3, 2024 which was consistent with prior releases of being more near the beginning of each month, and a day before the Japanese release on the 4th of the month. The English release of Chapter 133 was then rescheduled slightly later for January 9, 2024.
- Shinoa, along with Mitsuba, then Yoichi and Kimizuki as well were last seen in chapter 120: "The Price of Appetite" when they attempted to stop Yu with Mika from escaping.
- In that time in terms of the chapters, Yu and Mika, and unknown to all, Saito have delved greatly into memories that Shikama Doji bears from Earth's prehistory.
- For Shinoa Squad's activities it may be the case that they have separated from Guren and Mahiru, along with Krul Tepes, with Ferid Bathory and Crowley Eusford as well. Breaking up to increase the amount of searching they can do to find Yu appears to have taken place at some point where at least days have passed in-universe.
- Although there is likely no parallel meaning intended, it is notable that ants were present in chapter 130: "The Light Which Remains" which Yu regarded in a cabin near to Mt. Fuji. There, Yu commented how he felt he could not try anything no matter how he tried. Here, Shinoa feels similar in feeling she is valueless. Both Shinoa and Yu make comments on their perceived worth after seeing ants.
- From Mitsuba having been searching for her, Shinoa had evidently broken off from the squad briefly to contemplate matters. While the squad has separated from others as groups searched for Yu, the members themselves were supposed to stay together it seems.
- The memory of Yu blasting lightning into the sky is from around the Ikebukuro food storehouses. This indicates that Shinoa had made her way there to see Yu, which was not indicated when that occurred in chapter 120 at the time.
- Able to understand how Shinoa is feeling from her remarks, Mitsuba attempts to console her by reminding Shinoa of her impact on the squad.
- Despite attacking them after Yu had fled with Mika, where in the heat of the moment Shinoa said that she would kill Mika to get Yu back in chapter 120, it is shown here from Mitsuba's comments how the squad are upset at the departure.
- For what she made of Mitsuba sharing her heartfelt feelings that she also feels hurt given the separated squad, Shinoa decides to respond by "understanding" Mitsuba's view with the claim she had a crush on Yu. Joking or not for that part, Shinoa uses the opening to address how she did as well.
- Concerning ages and the passage of time in the series, Shinoa stated that she was sixteen in chapter 66: "Shuttered Shinoa" and again is sixteen as of this chapter 133.
- For her concerns on how she is to over come such a big rival, Shinoa's peeking and the emphasis on the big word is another instance of her commenting on Mitsuba's chest area similar to chapter 54: "Sinner's Christmas".
- For this, though it is not seen, it appears indicated that Mitsuba punched Shinoa who then asks what has gotten into her.
- Shinoa's feelings since Yu disappeared and now are further indicated by Mitsuba having noticed a change in her since then.
- For the first time ever Shinoa says she has started thinking about the meaning of life. Having regarded herself as a guinea pig, Shinoa did not crave validation, and love for family neither factored into it. Unclear how much has changed, entertaining gaining validation and family are powerful desires that Shinoa forms to tap into.
- Mitsuba claims she has been focused on surviving and has not thought about the meaning of life. She gives herself away that this is not the case when Mitsuba glances to Shinoa to investigate if she believes her.
- A memory seemingly shows Aoi asking Mitsuba if she believes there is any value to her life. Mistuba and Aoi were last seen speaking in chapter 70: "Retainer's Cause" around when Shibuya came under attack. The memory may show a different scenario of them interacting of which Aoi's words were on Mitsuba's mind.
- Aoi is described by Mitsuba as an elite among elites, a position she largely has due to her family name, and essentially as a result of servitude to Kureto specifically.
- Speaking of her family in a rare occurrence, Mitsuba describes herself as Aoi's defective little sister. For her family, Mitsuba was desperate for their validation.
- Shortly later, Mitsuba would comment she had no one who loved her, an indication of her parents' attitude towards her.
- Amongst a panel of blackness there are vertical glimmers of light when Shinoa is speaking of how nobody paid attention to her so it never occurred to her to crave validation. For speculation, it may be symbolic to how Shinoa now has the idea from Mitsuba that wanting validation where she didn't before could be used to generate desire.
- In no one bothering to pay attention to her, Shinoa feels she has had it easy to not crave validation.
- Although Shinoa discusses a different matter of validation, Mitsuba still has family in mind and raises did Mahiru not try and protect her. Although it was flashback scenes in chapter 97: "Sisters" it may be the more of the case that Shinoa was recounting these events for the squad to hear. Shinoa mentioning how Mahiru tried to save her in the drive to Akihabara was more overt in chapter 113: "Everyone's Secrets" which Mitsuba has evidently remembered.
- Outwardly it was a sincere display from Shinoa in saying that she loved Mitsuba. It may or may not be true that Shinoa loves Mitsuba unconditionally as a member of the squad (for their background it wouldn't be in the romantic sense) however Shinoa meaning it that she would give her life for hers, and the fact that she already thought of her as family is conspicuous. A most pessimistic view of what Shinoa means is she would not in fact give her life despite perhaps wanting to, this is just a wild notion being raised as Shinoa, unknown to Mitsuba, is currently in the full process of fuelling desires. The fact that Shinoa says here she already thought of Mitsuba as true family is suspicious, given the multiple times when the squad have regarded themselves as family. In the past when such claims have have been it made have been talk from Shinoa. Were they already a true family, Shinoa would not feel the need to clarify she only now thinks of Mitsuba as true family; for the comment it may have just been desire fuelling, not Shinoa's actual sentiment.
- Unaccustomed to Shinoa expressing what seems to be her inner feelings, Mitsuba finds it all sudden and embarrassing.
- After the supposed ardent from the heart display, Shinoa reflects to herself that thinking of Mitsuba as true family is not a meaning for living. In this pause from desire fuelling, to consider how to channel it further, Shinoa contemplates how she just not personally value her life.
- Sure to end on that Mitsuba validating her or not does not make a difference to her, Shinoa awaits her response expectedly. Indirectly, Shinoa prods Mitsuba to ask perhaps it is Yu's validation that Shinoa wants, a suggestion Shinoa is absolutely after, that she succeeds in inducing Mitsuba to raise. Upon the idea that Shinoa wanting Yu's validation is spoken, it appears the strongest desire yet for Shinoa as she blushes and mentions how her chest hurts.
- For activating desires, Shinoa speaking that she thinks of Mitsuba as family had some effect. This time, rather than speak how she wants Yu's validation herself, Shinoa has Mitsuba say it for her bodily expression of desire to be the answer.
- Thinking to ask if Mitsuba feels the same, from her furious blushing and no comment response, Shinoa infers she does.
- After gathering that Mitsuba was not revealing her true feelings upon claiming she had not considered the meaning of life having been focused on survival, it is a second time that Shinoa ascertains how Mitsuba really feels from her body language, and not explicit spoken responses.
- In being an excellent reader of body language, with the emotional intelligence of understanding how others feel, and being very aware of how Yu regards Mika, the desire to seek Yu's love appears surely a desire fuelling endeavour and not Shinoa's actual aspiration.
- Shinoa's intelligence is apparent in her being clever enough to know that Mika hypothetically not being there would not result in Yu suddenly wanting either her or Mitsuba's love.
- Shinoa is the third person to comment on the world being a Hell. In chapter 79: "Eternal Hell" Sika Madu mentioned this world was Hell to Ashera during the dark ages of Greece. It was an idea he had since Earth's prehistory in chapter 128 after Sika Madu lost his son, Mikaela. After viewing the prehistorical memories, Yu would wonder whether this was Hell in chapter 126: "Purgatory and Paradise". Yu would give some conclusive thought how this was supposed to be Hell in chapter 131: "Exoneration for Everyone".
- For Shikama Doji it is the predicament the seraphs are in as to why he feels the world is Hell. Where Yu is concerned, it is that the Earth was meant as a physical location for those angels confined to the planet. Shinoa raises the thought of this world being Hell if the act of living is meant to involve this much pain and suffering, which is more similar to Shikama Dojis's view of the concept.
- Hardly appearing bothered in mentioning how she and Mitsuba were abandoned, then supposedly dumped by their love, the comment of them dying because of that does not seem an indication of Shinoa's constitution (she does not really want to die because she was 'dumped' by who she loves) rather is a resumption of indulging in uninhibited desires.
- Similarly the idea that she and Mitsuba should fight for the heart of one man appears another fantastic scenario to embrace for desire generation.
- While Mitsuba may have been sharing her real feelings for everything she has shared (yet for Shinoa it is largely done to form desires as a power source) Mitsuba is willing to 'fight' for Yu's love, but for the benefit of Shinoa if that gives her a reason to live.
- On the surface both Shinoa and Mitsuba are saying they are occupied with Yu, in practice Shinoa is fostering personal power, and Mitsuba has chosen to support her as the squad leader and friend.
- For the idea of fighting for someone's love, Mitsuba's interest seems more aligned with competition with Shinoa not necessarily for the supposed prize of the love they are 'battling' for.
- As in chapter 97, Mitsuba once again has high praise for Mahiru as the one who invented cursed gear. Describing her as a hero, Mitsuba's esteem has elevated in stating how Mahiru saved the world. Mitsuba also has an ever more positive view of Mahiru after hearing that she was helping her sister, Shinoa.
- Looking back, Shinoa describes Mahiru as an unstoppable, a terror, one who made a mess for everyone. Never mind that she was apparently helping her, Shinoa lists Guren, along with Shinya and Kureto as being pawns of Mahiru. In reasoning that Mahiru did this out of love, Shinoa may have an idea of doing the same, actions undergone out of love, may be the way forward for herself too. Or, that love was behind Mahiru's supposed terror based making a mess for others. More likely the former.
- For Mahiru destroying the world for the sake of the man she loved, Shinoa has neglected to mention that it was Guren who performed a Catastrophe that was scheduled to commence by someone anyway. As above, the destroy the world for love impression may be bearing in mind the power available from love.
- Where Mitsuba has recalled that Mahiru said that Shinoa had more potential than her, it is something that Shinoa has remembered as well.
- Asked whether she has any plans, and responding who knows, Shinoa's finger pointing seems to indicate she indeed has one at that point.
- Deeming the rescue of Yu a very good question, Shinoa is set on doing that.
- Unknown to them, Yoichi and Kimizuki were both there and had heard an unstated amount of the conversation Shinoa and Mitsuba had about love. It was enough listened to that Kimizuki tries to say they did not hear anything.
- Although it is just the speech bubbles seen and not the speakers it is all but certain it is Mitsuba's outrage at being heard, and Kimizuki responding.
- This also indicates that Kimizuki was helping Mitsuba look for Shinoa who had gone missing.
- While embarrassed, Mitsuba was willing to keep talking having noted this was the first time Shinoa has ever spoken so much about herself. Of the group, Mitsuba has known Shinoa the longest duration having met her before being placed in the same squad as one another in chapter 8: "Mitsuba's Squad", where this matter of Shinoa sharing details of herself is new to Mitsuba.
- Assuming that Yoichi and Kimizuki heard that she liked Yu, Shinoa states they should share who they like, but they demur in doing so.
- Although the chapter is almost a continuous conversation, there are two skip to a next scenario occurrences of sorts. The first is when Shinoa and Mitsuba take to sitting beside one another when they begin discussing the world and their perceived place in it. The second is here when the conversation about what was heard skips to them being on a terrain of grass as Shinoa has something to say.
- In chapter 23: "Ambition in the Demon Army" there was a discussion had by Shinoa Squad on whether to continue to support Guren. The consensus was reached to continue doing so as a family that supports one another. For all Guren's actions since, the squad has largely fallen back into supporting him as he may be key to the resurrection of their families. Despite the utmost support for Guren, now Shinoa seems to regard him as someone who keeps beating them and means to do something about that.
- It is the same for Mahiru and the vampires, Shinoa classifies them like Guren in that they are attaining what they are after.
- Sure to specify that the means don't matter, Shinoa is set on having the squad live their lives the way they want to.
- Living their lives the way they want to is something Yoichi gives applause to.
- Bringing their families back to life seems to remain a goal of Kimizuki's, with Yu being regained as well. No one has mentioned bringing Mika back however. It is possible that like Mahiru's influence on Guren, he is regarded as a demon having influence over Yu, never mind that Yu's actions were all his own.
- Noting that their plan to bring their families back and also get Yu back is the same as Guren's, there may be the area that for that particular resurrection method, Mika's wellbeing was at stake.
- For their plan, it comes from Shinoa's feeling that they cannot trust Guren or Mahiru.
- Kimizuki opts to support Shinoa over Guren, possibly on account that the latter killed his sister. Power doesn't come into it, in noting that Guren and the others are more powerful, Kimizuki seems curious about how they get around that.
- The desires seemingly being formed from Shinoa entertaining some more wild ideas culminate in a new power for her. In speaking their names and for them to obey her, Shinoa can summon Gekkouin and Kiseki-o to the physical world.
- In a first demonstration of this ability, the power not only works; a demon can be summoned to obey Shinoa, but it someone else's demon, further, Shinoa can manifest two of them.
- Both Kiseki-o and Gekkouin were last seen in the present time (an apparent mixed memory from chapter 122: "Calories for Travel" showed a flashback of Gekkouin seen by Yu and Mika) in chapter 102: "He's Calling for Me" when they attempted to bind Mika who was a demon without memories. They were both defeated by Yu in the dream world that demon Mika had found himself in. During chapter 102 Yoichi confronted and last saw Gekkouin there, where while unseen it would have been similar for Kimizuki engaging with Kiseki-o.
- While defeated and seen vanishing, Gekkouin and likely Kiseki-o too as powers were able to be manifested, as the bow was by Yoichi in chapter 120: "The Price of Appetite".
- For their status after vanishing, Kiseki-o and Gekkouin are whole again. Like others, it is a surprise for them that they can be dropped into the physical world by someone.
- Where it was Kiseki-o and Gekkouin, this would be Mitsuba's first time seeing what the demons of her companions actually look like. Indeed, no one but Yu has seen another group member's demon. The squad has seen Shinoa possessed by Shikama Doji, but not him physically.
- On demons being seen, Mitsuba's Tenjiryū remains one of the only ones whose physical appearance has not been viewed at all. Even outside the squad, others such as Raimeiki and Mahiru-no-Yo have had their true forms depicted in the series, but not Tenjiryū who is a part of Shinoa squad through Mitsuba.
- This is all the more striking given the Human Appearing Angels that have been revealed, which physically resemble demons, particularly third progenitors of the present time. This may indicate that Tenjiryū alone does not have a connection with Shikama Doji and his vampire and demon entourage that may be linked to past angels. The lack of depiction regardless remains striking.
- Having paid attention to Mahiru's words that she was created to control demons, Shinoa has read into her being the greatest experimental guinea pig and has now acted on what was in mind for her.
- Thinking to create a need to be validated having gotten the idea from Mitsuba, and forming an achievable goal in rescuing Yu as she and the squad want, and her own in living how she wants, Shinoa has formed such strong desires that she thinks to go further than the already incredible ability of summoning other people's demons.
- Without a word but with a movement of her hand, Shinoa can send both demons she summoned, presumably back to their realms.
- Capitalizing on what she has just confirmed she is able to do, Shinoa makes a move on Shikama Doji.
- Having last seen him depart her sphere in chapter 103: "The Sky Awaits Them Both", Shinoa found she was connected to him still. This was despite Shikama Doji being imprisoned within the physical world in chapter 108: "Yu's Sword". Similarly, the all restraining prison does not keep Shinoa unaware of their connection.
- In the previous chapter 132: "Battle to The First" Shikama Doji was seen to be free of injuries, despite sustaining them earlier during chapter 114: "Everyone's Goals". Although appearing fine, in his sphere Shikama Doji appears bloodied and weary behind the heart's walls.
- From their connection, Shinoa alone may have an inkling that Shikama Doji is at the mercy of the Hyakuya Sect under Saitō in addition to vampire progenitors including Urd Geales.
- For what she can sense, Shinoa may not know that presently Shikama Doji has urged Yu to reach his location in Shibuya.
- Knowing for certain that this is a bad time for Shikama Doji, it is something Shinoa loves to mention.
- Deeming it a bad time, Shikama Doji seeks to have the confining walls surround himself again, to which Shinoa instantly lowers them.
- Turning into a demon from the anger of Shikama Doji's sway over her entire life in chapter 99: "Mortal Love", there is a second attempt to instead overcome her foe. In posing Shikama Doji questions of which they both know the answer to, Shinoa readies herself for what she is set on.
- Where he has been civil to her such as in chapter 66: "Shuttered Shinoa" and chapter 67: "The Door into Puberty" but only because he wants to possess her, here and when under pressure, Shikama Doji coldly addresses Shinoa as human.
- Shikama Doji's response to Shinoa's questions is to fire darkness at her. Ready for it, Shinoa resorts to a devour ability which not only shields her but, as the name would indicate, appears to allow her to absorb the First's power judging from the curse marks across her.
- A self demonic inducing anger energized Shinoa before, but now Shinoa displays an unhinged euphoria as she presumably seeks to have Shikama Doji himself as a demon to call upon.
