Synopsis[]
As Yu nears Shikama Doji both Saito and Urd try and stop him. Ky Luc and Lest Karr move from the power Urd generates while Yu speaks with Mika what they can do in response to it. Mika plans for the sword to be thrown at Urd's strike to try and block it until Yu can reach the First.
While Mika finds the sword cracking, elsewhere Krul wonders if it's possible for her to beat Ferid now. In their cells, Shinya finds the outer wall break where he and Kureto can escape. Yu successfully manages to free Shikama Doji yet sees he is fading. Revealing he is being devoured, Shikama Doji raises with Yu and Mika if they mean to bring Mikaela back. Shikama Doji entrusts the powers to resurrect Mikaela, along with the method of hiding the world from paradise, and the means to destroy paradise.
In her sphere, Shinoa answers the First she will use the drained power for love. As Shikama Doji disappears completely, he bequeaths his wish to the next generation. Where Shinoa can manifest her scythe, Yu can also draw upon a power. Yu and Mika are encircled by Urd along with Ky Luc then Saito and Lest Karr as well.

Summary[]
Able to fly with the four large black seraph wings, Yu approaches the prison Shikama Doji is in. As the First thinks for Yu to hurry there is something he needs to entrust to him. Seeing this approach, Saito shouts for Urd to not let Yu get anywhere near the First.[1]
Already preparing, Urd radiates a seismic light that hurtles into the sky. Where Ky Luc is in awe of it, Lest Karr warns him they have to get away or else they will end up as collateral damage. Also seeing it, Shikama Doji remarks that is bad as Yu seems aware. Speaking for his sword, Urd invokes it to sweep clean the skies, the First and all.[2]
Within their sphere, Mika and Yu have a chance to deliberate. After Yu comments how Urd's attack looks nasty, he asks Mika what now. While Mika gives it some thought, Yu wonders if he thinks they can block the whole thing before adding how the strike is pretty big. Immediately against the idea, Mika states it would obliterate them. Even if they did block it, it would toss them who knows how far back.[3]
Where Yu also notes they would not be able to hear what the First had to say, Yu seeks Mika's view on what to do. Reasoning it is not like it can be that bad, Mika feels the vampires do have that curse on them that basically prevents them from killing himself or Yu. When Yu feels it looks pretty clear that Urd is definitely trying to kill them, Mika sees that is the case and how it can happen when they are in the middle of a pitched battle and all.[4]
If the two of them now not actually resisting however, Mika thinks they should be bound by the curse not to kill them. As Yu considers this, Mika continues as long as they get their shot at talking to the First then being captured afterwards is no big deal.[5]
After Mika says that means they have options, Yu asks what they are. Beaming with happiness, Mika's idea is to block that strike by himself for as long as their energy holds out. Mika says for Yu to go ahead and toss his sword at it then adds it will be fine.[6]
Upon Yu raising is that not suicide, Mika responds it is hard for him to kill himself when he is already dead. Even if he gets blown to bits Mika can just use Yu's desires and reconstitute. Where Yu thinks that sounds like it will leave him super hungry, Mika agrees probably so much what he will not be able to move from stomach cramps, but it is better than dying. A plan ready, Yu says fine he will toss him then, where Mika states he will go as hard as he can.[7]
Physically, Yu witnesses the huge column of light formed from Urd. Proceeding with what was arranged, Yu hurls the sword which Mika manifests over. As Yu's seraph wings disintegrate, he sees Mika head with the sword at strike at what Urd has generated. Unleashed in his own right, Mika collides with Urd's attack with his sword.[8]
Determined as he clashes with Urd's sword emission, Mika holds steady until he finds cracks appear on his blade. Suddenly seeing this as a bad idea, Mika calls to Yu that this was a really bad plan.[9]
The light beam is visible in the close distance as Ferid faces Krul. Looking to it, Ferid speaks how that rumble must be Urd Geale's sword. Ferid wonders aloud how much power would it take to nullify an attack like that. Not joining the conversation, Krul keeps her gaze fixed on Ferid. After Ferid questions what does she think, Krul thinks of the power there. Contemplating it is like Ferid is a different person, Krul wonders is it even possible for her to beat him now.[10]
Among a row of prison cells, Shinya speaks to Kureto in a separate cell to ask if he is still alive. With no response, Shinya then questions if he is dead. Curious as to whether Kureto still wants to keep playing the word game, Shinya explains the word he left him on ended in an "R."[11]
Noting that Kureto has not answered in a while, Shinya would like to know if he can take this to mean that he won. As Shinya finds the outer wall break apart, Urd's power outside rips through the cityscape. Registering this, Shinya asks again if Kureto is alive yet as he checks outside the broken wall.[12]
Standing above him, Kureto is there and tells Shinya enough of his babbling. Ordering him to free the others, Kureto announces they are leaving. After Kureto adds to be snappy about it, Shinya and other prisoners are able to escape.[13]
Where Mika held off Urd's attack there was time for Shikama Doji to be released from the cage. Leaping to a building top, Yu brings the First with him. Starving, Yu states he is almost totally out of energy. Speaking to Shikama Doji that he is here, Yu says for them to talk.[14]
See through, Yu is surprised to find Shikama Doji is transparent and asks what happened to him. Shikama Doji responds that he is being devoured. Shocked, Yu asks by who to which the First answers by a human. When Shikama Doji says it never occurred to him that a mere human could hold so much power, Yu is fixed on finding out who.[15]
There is no time to explain, and Shikama Doji needs to bequeath to Yu his remaining power and spells before they are taken from him. Using his hand Shikama Doji produces a clear circular power. Yu sees Mika transported to him.[16]
Mentioning that did not work at all, Mika shares he could only stop Urd's attack for around seven seconds. Mika is also surprised to find Shikama Doji is transparent. Updating Mika that there is no time, Shikama Doji is conscious that Rigr and Urd will be here soon. Before they do, Shikama Doji raises with Yu how he said he can bring back Mikaela. Reminding him of what he said to him, Shikama Doji asks if that is true that Yu can do what he has failed to do for eons.[17]
Considering his response, Yu answers yes he can successfully bring Mikaela back. He just needs Shikama Doji to tell him the spell for it. When Shikama Doji checks if Yu is saying he has been going about it wrong, Yu happily replies yes. Feeling he sees this, Shikama Doji wonders if Yu knows what his mistake was.[18]
Once Yu answers Yes once more, Shikama Doji readies himself having no time to think on it further. Deciding to entrust everything to Yu, the First summons three constructs enveloped in light above him.[19]
The first is a wing like construct, the method to resurrect Mikaela. A darkened star appearing one is the method of hiding the world from paradise. Continuing, Shikama Doji explains the third one is the method to destroy paradise. Where Yu appears stunned, Mika also regards these physical powers.[20]
Explaining that each spell will require a massive sacrifice, Shikama Doji asks if they are still willing. Saying that he has his memories back now, Yu says for the First to not worry. Stating that he will be his successor, Yu adds he will also resurrect all the angels.[21]
Absorbing what he said, Shikama Doji begins to laugh. As he readies light around his hand, Shikama Doji comments what a surprise that humans, homunculi, that they somehow managed to surpass their creator before he realized it. The light arcs around Yu as Shikama Doji speaks that he cannot say he knows who or what he is anymore, but what power he has left he will leave to him.[22]
Within her realm, Shinoa'a face remains covered in curse like marks. Picking up on what is happening, Shinoa means to stop Shikama Doji and his visage there. Shinoa manifests two circles of light.[23]
There is a scenario of Shinoa and Yu floating in their own landscape. At Yu's back is a white circular grid of shining lines. Behind Shinoa is a vaguely wing like pattern. They do not appear to be aware that the other is there.[24]
The First is in this realm, and asks Shinoa what will she use all this power for. Shinoa responds for love. Remarking that's a human, Shikama Doji deems it a very self-centered reason. After Shinoa raises if he is any different, Shikama Doji does not have a response.[25]
Closing his eyes, Shikama Doji speaks how he saw much but did not foresee this day ever coming. His outstretched hand begins to disappear into light, and Shikama Doji mentions his wish and how he bequeaths it unto the next generation. As Shinoa levitates, particles of light is all that is left of the first progenitor Shikama Doji.[26]
Shinoa speaks aloud that she does not know what Shikama Doji thought he was bequeathing to who as she manifests her glowing white scythe, but she will take it all from him so that he can never hurt anyone with it again.[27]
From where Yu is on top of the building, a portal opens. As Yu reaches, he is ready to catch the light sent out from it. Regarding it, Yu speaks good.[28]
Sat together, Yu and Mika see the vampire progenitors join them. Shikama Doji gone. As Urd with Ky Luc then Saito and Lest Karr land, Yu awaits them.[29]

Chapter Notes[]
Cover Details[]
The colored image for chapter 136 is a depiction of events that also tie into what is taking place in the story. Perhaps an artistic depiction, for the seraph wings that Yu formed in the previous chapter they are shown to be more of a dark blue than completely black. The curse marks across his face also cover his hands and black energy circulates around him. Mika is also on the cover image at the forefront. For the cover of chapter 111: "Yu & Guren" the fluff atop his cape was black in coloration, and so like with Yu on this chapter cover the blue tinge may be an artistic effect rather than the exact color of the seraph wings and clothing respectively.
- Chapter 136, along with chapter 61: "Who Is More Bored?", chapter 68: "Saviors", chapter 77: "Rescue for the Devil" and chapter 126: "Purgatory and Paradise" is one of the chapters after which the manga took a break for a month in Japan. Where chapter 136 was released in April, chapter 137 was released two months later in June.
- Coming to the conclusion that Yu is better dead if they cannot control him, Urd expands that to firing his power never mind if the First is affected as well.
- Not just words, Urd'a concentrated power is a concern for Lest Karr and Shikama Doji in the vicinity.
- Having time to discuss it, Mika feels the vampires are bound by a curse that prevents them from killing them. Not willing to test it with Urd attacking, Mika returns to the matter of blocking Urd's attack. While Mika told Yu it would obliterate them he is willing to engage it by himself to afford Yu the chance to reach the First.
- Thoughts of them being unable to be killed were first considered in chapter 119: "Our Goals" where here Mika takes that into account when assuring Yu that it is fine for him to try and block Urd's blade emission. For Mika he can return with Yu's desire.
- The column of light Urd forms is the most sizeable attack seen from a vampire in the series. Coming from a second progenitor who had notions of destroying a city, it may very well be a strongest attack a vampire can make.
- Mika is able to withstand this charged power, yet it causes the Cursed Gear sword to be damaged where outright breakage was possible had this continued.
- Having witnessed his power first hand in chapter 91: "Orphan Prince" and chapter 92: "Black Demon Scenario", Ferid comments on the beam of light in the distance as being from Urd. In looking to it, and pondering questions, it would be in keeping with Ferid's behaviour to induce Krul to turn around to join him in looking at it, at which point he could attack.
- Experiencing his betrayal before in chapter 41: "Arrogant Love", Krul does not look away from Ferid for a moment.
- Krul's thoughts are not of Urd's power that is commented on but of Ferid's she can sense. Perceiving that it has increased, Krul wonders if it is possible for her to beat him now. In the previous chapter, Ferid had the same reservations where he felt barely on par with a third progenitor.
- While Arukanu was seen around Krul in her location during the previous chapter it is not seen in this chapter.
- While he has been remembered, Shinya was last seen confined to a jail cell in chapter 121: "Last Dawn" where now he has a chance to escape thanks to his very captor of Urd where the effects of his attack break the building wall.
- Similarly, Kureto was last seen in the same situation as Shinya in chapter 121. Having not been talkative, Kureto now prepares to have those who were imprisoned leave.
- Despite the vampire progenitors' attempt to stop them, Yu successfully reaches the cage Shikama Doji is confined in. This was achieved with assistance from the First namely the corrosive shadows he sent at the vampire progenitors. Additionally, Yu with Mika could produce black wings to help him reach the location. Finally, Mika acting to hinder Urd's attack gave Yu time. While Mika may have been frustrated at the time since he could only impede the power for seven seconds it was that which afforded them success.
- Shikama Doji has been confined to the cage he was in from chapter 108: "Yu's Sword" to this chapter 136. In the 28 chapters he has been imprisoned, much of his backstory has been viewed in flashbacks, and he could still engage with the world through other means. Ultimately however, it very much seems a prison that Shikama Doji genuinely could not physically escape from.
- The effects of a demon being devoured are seen in Shikama Doji who turns transparent.
- Although knowing how close they are, Shikama Doji does not tell Shinoa he needs to help Yu, neither does he mention that Shinoa is the one consuming his power.
- It would appear that Shikama Doji possesses a transportation based capability. After forming a circle shaped power, Mika was brought to where he and Yu were and away from Urd's ranged strike.
- Whether due to time constraints or an indication of the limits of trusting the First, Yu does not speak of himself having Mikaela's soul inside him. Only confirming that Shikama Doji made a mistake, Yu did not explain that it was because Shikama Doji was focusing on Mikaela's corpse, which was in fact a homunculus physically imitating it. Mikaela's spirit is what would need to be needed, and that was intentionally hidden elsewhere within a human. This was a plan seen formed in the past by Mikaela and Yu the homunculus in chapter 130: "The Light Which Remains".
- Where Yu needs to learn the spell from Shikama Doji he would also need the sinful keys from Guren. During chapter 132: "Battle to The First" Yu and Mika spoke of a plan for the vampire progenitors to help them gain the sinful keys from Guren, though Shikama Doji was not sought for this kind of help.
- Indeed entrusting him something, it is three things. Shikama Doji imparts what are existential and world shaping powers to Yu.
The Methods[]
- These spells appear able to be formed into physical constructs where they can be conferred to other beings. Each are physically distinct. While they all radiate a light, each is of a different intensity.
- At least six interlocked wing patterns are the design for the spell to resurrect Mikaela. The feathers are seraph wing-like, and the number matches the amount of wings stronger angels have. The outer feather tips are blackened compared to the lighter inner coloration even as the entire method is clad in a bright light. Naturally the seraph wing like design seems inextricably linked to the fact of Mikaela being an angel.
- Darker overall than it is light, the method of hiding the world from Paradise from some observable pointed sections may have a somewhat star shaped design. In chapter 124 the Seraph Civilization seen in the prehistoric past was formed in a pentagram across the surface of Earth. Practically, this star shaped form may be involved with the concealing properties the power is concerned with. For other physical traits of the method, there is a light section in the centre. Many parallel lines run from each section even when they are apparently not completely formed. The streaks of light around the method are slightly more refined compared to the other two.
- Almost completely light aside from the defining lines of the form, the method to destroy paradise could be said to resemble a cross between a star and a flake of snow. If it is a depiction of the Sun in terms of the shape then it would match what was said about paradise being literally on the celestial body. Somewhat thick lines extend from one another, and as they circle it forms the different kind of star like points of the method. It is a more crackling light around this method.
- The methods have physical traits similar to what they are concerned with, six wings for the six-winged angel Mikaela and heavy dark aspects for one concerned with hiding where the shape also appears connected to the concealing capabilities. Accordingly, the method to destroy paradise's shape may be the first indication of what paradise is like. Clues could be the at least six points leading into the outer radiating light. Unlike the other two, the white lines lead off and proceed outwards into nothingness where they seem to expand into more. The lines are concentrated in the centre. There are no deliberate dark features.
- In chapter 126: "Purgatory and Paradise" it was mentioned that God resides on the Sun which appeared to be the paradise that seraphs wanted to return to. Not only is there a method to destroy paradise shown in this chapter 136, if it is the same location then there may be the means to destroy the Sun.
- For the perimeter of the concealing power, that being active would explain why a shining star shaped city across the surface of a planet could not be detected from space for when the seraph civilisation existed in Earth's prehistory. Since Shikama Doji has formed such a power in the present times it evidently needs to be activated again. Seraphs can detect activity on Earth and act as when they induced the Catastrophe to begin with having sensed what they deemed sinful behaviour.
- That sacrifice is involved in one of the spells was known for the resurrection one that Guren detailed in chapter 114: "Everyone's Goals" where it was stated that the lives of every last vampire was needed. The number of sacrifices, and whether they are limited to a set species was not expounded upon by Shikama Doji but he was upfront that a massive sacrifice was needed for each spell.
- If it were the same, then a massive sacrifice may have been made in the prehistoric past to hide certain activities (such as creating Mikaela seen in chapter 128: "The Wings of Icarus") when Shikama Doji ruled the seraph civilization on Earth.
- When Yu tells Shikama Doji he has his memories back, the First may have assumed that he regained memories of being the human Yu of the past or the homunculus named Yu. What Yu didn't specify was that he was talking about getting memories back of Mikaela who had his own resurrection plan.
- Speaking of being Shikama Doji's successor, Yu claims he will resurrect all the angels and makes no comment on the sacrifice element of the spells.
- In expressing his surprise at humans and homunculi somehow managing to surpass their creator, Shikama Doji may have thought Yu was one of these. Where Shikama Doji created Mikaela he unknowingly surpassed his expectations millennia ago when he created his own plan that the First knew nothing about.
- Although able to sense that Shikama Doji is attempting to send off some of his power, Shinoa is clearly unable to discern his contact with Yu. This is particularly notable since in chapter 99: "Mortal Love" Shinoa could hear Shikama Doji telepathically contact Ashera. Ultimately, if Shinoa knew or believed Shikama Doji was helping Yu, it may have allowed the First to endure. The outcome is Yu has some of Shikama Doji's powers, as does Shinoa. With the First gone, he may not be active anytime soon but Yu and Shinoa will be.
- Since commencing her assault on Shikama Doji in chapter 133: "Maidens in Love" Shinoa has managed to deliver on her goal of overcoming the First which she set about carrying out more in chapter 134: "Reincarnation Rondo". The outcome was briefly delayed, in chapter 135: "Front Seats to the End" Shinoa's draining of his power meant Shikama Doji could not assist Yu and Mika as much, but they still succeeded in reaching him. Had Shikama Doji told Shinoa to cease her actions since he was helping Yu, that would have almost certainly been seen as an act of deception. For the power Shinoa has absorbed, it seems she failed in this chapter to prevent Shikama Doji from passing three major powers to Yu. Nevertheless, Shinoa may have seen all his background and plans from the past, and has acquired her own major power. From the amount of light it may very well be on par with what Yu received.
- While Yu and Shinoa were seen in a realm together they could not see one another. It may be a depiction of Yu receiving his powers where Shinoa is taking them from what might be Shikama Doji's sphere.
- Likely not intentional, but for a description of the pattern at Shinoa's back at best it resembles a symmetrical Rorschach test. It may be like the curse gear marks in that it does not resemble anything in particular and is just a design. Given the moment however it may be an indication of a new power to be expanded upon in the series.
- The same applies for Yu in that sphere, the oval like design of parallel and crossing white lines is a new construct. The pattern of white lines behind Yu is similar to the design of the method to destroy paradise that Shikama Doji showed. It's challenging to put that down to coincidence given the specialised designs made.
- No longer before her, Shikama Doji asks what Shinoa will use her power for, to which she replies love. After Shikama Doji comments that is a self-centered human reason, Shinoa questions how he is any different. This may indicate Shinoa is aware of Shikama Doji's feelings for his son Mikaela given the power he amassed for him.
- From his comment of seeing much Shikama Doji may possess some degree of being able to see the future.
- Disappearing, Shikama Doji's wish of presumably resurrecting Mikaela is passed onto what he calls the next generation.
