Summary[]

Krul attacks Ferid
A power surges its way through Shibuya breaking buildings in its wake. As Ferid steps towards Krul, she considers what power. Krul's thoughts concern how Ferid is clearly different from before. Cheerfully, Ferid raises them getting started.[1]
Wondering which one of them is stronger, Krul thinks it still feels like she might edge Ferid out. Acting as if she does not recognize the situation, Krul questions Ferid what they are to get started before wondering what is he after. Ferid responds that is a good question. Before Ferid can finish asking her what she thinks, Krul strikes at him.[2]

Kicking him in the head
Although surprised, Ferid manages to evade Krul yet considers how that was fast. Contemplating how that is a third progenitor, Ferid acknowledges that Krul noticed his power instantly. Continuing her assault, Krul takes to kicking Ferid in the head.[3]

Ascertaining the extent of the power she could sense
As blood comes from Ferid's mouth he maintains his grip of Krul's arm. Addressing him as a fool, Krul warns Ferid if he cannot get away then she will beat him to death here and now. Acting on her words, Krul slams Ferid's head into the ground.[4]
From what she can see, as Krul had thought she has an indication of the balance of power between them. Ever gripping her, Ferid speaks how a spell is complete and says for Kiseishingon to defile them.[5]

The spell complete, Kiseishingon is activated
A chain shoots from Ferid's palm into Krul's arm that he was holding. Seeing this, and that the chain has gone though her wrist, Krul responds by striking at her own arm. Finding her clothing affected, but her arm still intact, Krul appears puzzled at her arm remaining intact.[6]

Bound by an unbreakable chain
Standing calmly with a chain through her arm, Krul thinks to herself how she cannot sever it. Rising, Ferid speaks of being so tired. The top of his head appears partially missing. Ferid's thoughts concern devouring someone higher ranked, and how he needs to go through that spell rigamarole to make sure they do not take him over.[7]
Where Krul is regarding the chain though her arm that cannot be severed, Ferid tends to his fractured skull. Krul turns her attention to this. After a series of cracking based sounds, Ferid laughs as his head is restored. Curious as to how he looks, Ferid checks with Krul whether he is back to his handsome self.[8]

Questions about this new ability
Not answering the question, Krul turns back to the chain. Registering that the chain is unbreakable, Krul wonders what it is for. Krul nonchalantly asks Ferid whether it is slow-acting poison. After Ferid feigns uncertainty, Krul continues with that notion then questions how long does it take to work. Another question Krul has it whether it would make Ferid stronger than her as time passes.[9]

Sensing that Crowley has been absorbed
Claiming that she has it all wrong, Ferid states this is the red thread of fate that has bound them since their previous lives. Not commenting on that, Krul speaks how it is faint but she can smell Crowley Eusford on him. Having a set reaction in store, Ferid speaks how Krul noticed that he cheated on her. All the while his jaw begins to disconnect as Ferid promises Krul that he is a loyal member of her faction.[10]

Monstrously renewing his attack
Krul knows that Ferid is somehow absorbing vampires. Ferid's response is to lunge towards Krul with his now huge mouth and fangs ready. He manages to speak that she catches on quicker than he expected. Krul is able to leap away some distance as Ferid reaches her prior location.[11]

Further new horrors deployed
Where the chain remains in Krul's arm, Ferid yanks it to pull her back. The fingers of Ferid's left hand morph to become blob like. As they enlarge and become flattened, Ferid's left arm forms into a sizeable black jaw with many serrated teeth.[12]
Unconcerned with this dramatic and horrifying display, Krul's thoughts are of her own status, namely how her body is not growing weaker. Krul concludes it is not slow-acting poison. Wondering if this power is something that Ferid needs to devour her for, Krul considers in that case she wins this fight. Saying as much, Krul speaks how she wins.[13]

Unconcerned, and dealing with this threat
Bypassing the arm maw waiting for her, Krul slices across that as she passes by Ferid entirely. Landing, Krul informs Ferid that he takes a third progenitor too lightly. Remaining upbeat, Ferid promises Krul that he doesn't.[14]

His head struck off, Ferid calls for help
Ferid's head is simply struck off. A chain connects his decapitated head to his torso, at which point Ferid calls to Guren for help. Immediately, Mahiru and Guren attack in unison. Both their cursed gear swords strike Krul from behind.[15]

Assailed by Mahiru and Guren
More angry than startled at being attacked, Krul emits a trace amount of blood from her mouth. Meanwhile, Mahiru calls to Ferid on the spell in progress. From his head atop the chain, Ferid details that it has been long enough for him to eat Krul, and if it is done now she will not be able to take him over. Guren shouts for Ferid to devour Krul already.[16]

Acting to absorb Krul, who remains unconcerned
Replying that it is not that easy, Ferid then changes his tone while stating it is exactly what he plans to do. Ferid's fanged mouth launches itself towards Krul who remains with the initial chain in her arm. Ever composed, Krul speaks how she is still being taken too lightly. Especially since it is three one one, Krul points out that she is still unarmed and they can only muster this much of a power gap.[17]

Arcane consumes Krul's blood
Flitting down, Arcane lands on Krul's hand at the ready. After Krul speaks for Arcane to drink her blood, the being complies by opening its mouth and biting into her hand.

Krul's weapon activated
Guren shields his eyes as Mahiru also observes a surge of lightning from Krul.[18] Undergoing a form change, Krul stands ready in a wing based attire. The chain is absent from her hand.

Shocked at the sight before them
Mahiru is shocked, as is Guren and Ferid. Effortlessly acquiring Ferid's incoming head, Krul determinedly casts him aside. It is with the force to fling Ferid through buildings.[19]

Ferid cast aside, and through buildings
From the chain tether, Ferid's body has joined his head in ending up crashed into a wall. Where his left leg is also missing, Ferid's head comments how this is bad. Ferid sees that Krul is way more powerful than anticipated. Considering his body, Ferid thinks how he has taken a lot of damage and he is not sure they can turn this round.[20]

Mahiru urges Guren to retreat
Airborne, Krul flits though the air as Mahiru looks on in horror as Guren stands nearby. Calling for him to pull back, Mahiru urges Guren to go as fast as he can. Guren appears stunned at the situation.[21]
To herself, Krul takes into account how Arcane drinks a lot of her blood and if it stops drinking it cannot move. Wondering if she should finish this off quickly, Krul's other idea is whether she should drink their blood and extend her power. Flying in the air, Krul ponders which is wiser.[22]

Dealing with Ferid first
In no great rush, Krul approaches Ferid at his location. As Ferid damns the situation, Krul slashes into him. Three large claw shaped tears are etched into the building. As debris topples down, Krul instructs Ferid to wait there and that she will take her time in interrogating him later.[23]

Readying himself for what is next
Turning her attention to a building, Krul appears to have another idea of where her next target is. Having indeed been able to pull back, Guren stands within a room among spell tags scattered on the ground with his sword ready.[24]

Mahiru panicking at their situation
Closing his eyes, Guren communes with Mahiru in their sphere. Where he is sat crossed-legged, Guren awaits Mahiru to speak. Mentioning that this is bad, Mahiru clenches her teeth as she reiterates this sentiment. Damning it, Mahiru thinks how she badly miscalculated Krul's power. Given her average strength, Mahiru figured Krul was already using her sword's power.[25]
Wondering why Krul had not used her weapon before now, Mahiru contemplates whether it has some kind of limit on it. Additionally, Mahiru wonders if there is a hefty price Krul has to pay to use it. Mahiru considers the abnormally high jump in power after she pulled this weapon out.[26]

Not resigning herself
Commenting on the miscalculation word she used, Guren interrupts Mahiru's line of thought yet she remains impassive. After Guren states how she knew from the start that challenging a third progenitor would be risky, Mahiru orders him to shut it. Shouting for him to please not lecture her, Mahiru states she is busy here.[27]

Refusing to put Guren in danger
When Guren says it is going to go how it's going to go, Mahiru angrily replies that she refuses to put him in danger. When Mahiru states that if he dies then it is over for her, Guren mentions how the both of them are walking dead. Guren is envisioned holding Mahiru appearing deceased in his arms and speaks how they should have died together with everyone eight years ago.[28]

Differing views at feeling it's the end
Asserting that he is not dead yet, Mahiru adds she will not let him die. After Guren speaks her name, Mahiru commands him to just shut up. Continuing to talk, Guren feels it is the same as it was back then. If he dies now then they will both get to go together.[29]
If Mahiru was not angry at such an idea initially, she is when responding never to Guren. Not when they have come so far, Mahiru adds they are almost there and are so close. Her attention drawn to what she can sense, Mahiru is conscious that Krul is coming this way.[30]

Attempting to remind Krul of their deal
Showing concern for the first time here, Guren calls Mahiru's name. Enveloping herself in an energy, Mahiru joins Krul in the air. Calling for her to hold it, Mahiru reminds Krul that they made a deal with her. While Mahiru raises how if Krul helped then they would turn Ashera back, her words are cut short.[31]

Krul judging Mahiru the threat to be dealt with
Using her finger, Krul directs Mahiru to crash into the ground. Announcing that she has to go, right now, Krul deems Mahiru to be a greater threat than even Ferid Bathory. As of now, Krul declares that deal to be off.[32]
Although Mahiru says for Krul to wait, she anticipates what is coming from the movement in her wing and so calls to Guren. Prepared with his sword, Guren is ready in the room he is in. As Krul slides her finger, a power is unleashed just as the spell tags around Guren are activated.[33]

Guren tries to intervene
Within a scene of destruction, Krul is calm. The Spring Shift Mahiru-No-Yo power is activated and Guren leaps upwards to where Krul is. Heading along with the spell tags, Guren is ready to fight.

His Cursed Gear cut apart
Deeming him too slow, Krul's hand is able to cut Guren's unleashed sword into multiple pieces.[34] Registering what has occurred, Guren is shocked. As this dawns on him, Mahiru remains radiating her aura yet can only watch as spell tags are generated.
The fastest to act, Krul seizes Guren. Although Mahiru shouts for her to stop, Krul speaks for Guren to die.[35]
Gripping him, Krul bites into Guren. Horrified at the scene, Mahiru screams in anguish.[36]

Chapter Notes[]
Cover Details[]
The feature image for chapter 137 concerns in-universe story events. Where there are different scenarios occurring simultaneously in the story, the cover image expands upon the engagement between Ferid and Krul that began in chapter 135: "Front Seats to the End" and was touched upon in the previous chapter 136: "The Godtouched".
The actual start of the chapter begins with the first panel which appears to show Urd's power that he has deployed in an attempt to stop Yu and Mika from reaching Shikama Dōji. This power from Urd's sword is shown to break through buildings, of which one may be the prison that Shinya and Kureto are freed from. Accordingly from the timing of that surge of power, the beginning of this chapter is taking place slightly earlier than the ending of chapter 136, yet the situation between Ferid and Krul is being shown at this point.
The tall middle panels feature Ferid stepping towards Krul. His dialogue from prior chapters having been said, Krul's thoughts continue to concern the newfound power she can sense from Ferid. Hinting of his intent, Ferid addresses them getting started. Previously, Krul had doubts of whether she could defeat Ferid yet here feels she may be able to overcome his expected challenge.
It is a slight change in the location of the lettering details. The Seraph of the End logo is at the top left of the page. The authorship details and chapter name are in a separate panel. Notably, further lettering details are outside of the panels entirely.
- There was a two-month interval between the release of this chapter 137 where chapter 136 was released in April, with no release in May.
- Pretending to not know what Ferid is here for, Krul wonders what he is talking about before taking the chance to attack him.
- Where Ferid has been increasing his own strength by sapping the power of vampires he has consumed including Crowley, with Chess Belle and Horn Skuld as well, he would be able to grasp Krul's arm after she commenced her assault.
- Realizing that his power has been noticed is not something Ferid seemed to have expected. That he had consumed Crowley was also something he seemingly did not want to be sensed.
- In battle, it seems a psychological tactic Krul employs in raising the prospect of Ferid being unable to get away. If there was a risk Krul could be beaten, speaking to induce Ferid to flee could have afforded her a means of surviving.
- For her senses, Krul seems to have an accurate appraisal of Ferid's new strength. After kicking and slamming him, Krul confirms her senses on their balance of power.
- Able to resort to spells, Ferid has kept ahold of Krul's arm to ready the Kiseishingon power.
- Kiseishingon is introduced in this chapter.
- In response to a chain through her arm, Krul's response is to attempt to amputate her own limb. This is similar to how Lucal Wesker freed himself in chapter 28: "Livestock Revolt" when he cut off his own arm to free himself from the Akahebi chain formed by Shusaku.
- Heat is given off from the impact of Krul's strike on herself, enough for smoke to be generated from the impact.
- The chain Ferid uses prevents Krul from severing her own arm. This chain would only be cast off upon Krul resorting to her blood drainage powers which overhauls her appearance as well.
- To devour someone higher ranked, Ferid takes into account the spell process as there is a risk that he could be taken over.
- Although there are sound effects it is not shown how Ferid restored the upper crushed section of his skull.
- Not once perturbed by anything Ferid displays in this fight, Krul's analytical traits of regarding what she is faced with are shown here. Finding the chain in her uncuttable, Krul suspects poison and calmly seeks answers from Ferid.
- For Ferid's comment on a red thread of fate binding them between lives, whatever Krul's thoughts are on that she does not share them, rather addresses Crowley who can be felt on Ferid.
- Past lives, or interactions between Krul and Ferid have not yet been seen at this point in the series. In chapter 134: "Reincarnation Rondo" it was shown that Ferid lived as a human seemingly in medieval times with his brother who may very well have reincarnated as Crowley if Ferid's later comments are anything to go by. The angel Belial physically resembles Krul, who lived beside other Human Appearing Angels, however again there are no instances of anyone resembling Ferid being seen with anyone looking like Krul.
- For what she knows of previous lives, Krul makes no comment on them where she concentrates on the matter at hand.
- It may be the case that Krul can physically smell Crowley on Ferid where he was consumed by him. However, Krul's senses may be able to 'smell' him from the realm containing a single tree within Ferid where Crowley is conscious.
- The possibility cannot be out-ruled that Ferid genuinely sees himself as a loyal member of Krul's faction, despite threatening to report her seraph based activities to the Progenitor Council in chapter 5: "Vampire Mikaela" and indeed outright betraying her in chapter 41: "Arrogant Love", to setting about attacking Krul again in this chapter.
- For what they know of what would be human-based spells, Krul is unfamiliar with the process of absorbing other vampires, however Ferid is. Where Ferid consumes vampires to increase his strength, it is similar to what Saito is able to do. In chapter 81: "Fallen Wings" Saito could use chains to sap the power of his Hyakuya Sect army to gain the power to mount a challenge against the First. This left those affected unconscious where they were able to rise after the power ended. Ferid's power increase may be more permanent given that he is outright murdering others to attain it.
- In chapter 134, Ferid's monstrously wide jaw was seen in the process of consuming Crowley. Here, the skin of his cheeks appears to break as he readies his fanged mouth for attack.
- Although Ferid has a greater chance of matching Krul's speed on occasion, she still seemingly retains the advantage of being faster in more instances.
- A new power is witnessed of Ferid's hand become enlarged and flattened before it forms into a blackened and serrated fanged maw, another means of consuming his quarry.
- Unconcerned with the new sights that Ferid displays, Krul is thinking of how she can win.
- While he has shown to ability to use chains, Ferid's body is made of them which keeps his head attached after it is swiped off.
- Although having been mentioned multiple times in the chapters since, Guren was last seen in chapter 120: "The Price of Appetite". Similarly, Mahiru has been mentioned yet was last seen in chapter 115: "Choices and Decisions" where both return in this chapter. After Yu and Mika had fled Akihabara and the group had split up to search for them, it transpired that Guren and Mahiru had taken to monitoring Ferid's attack on Krul. Not just observers, it is evident they were involved in this plan and are ready to help Ferid defeat Krul to absorb her power.
- When Mahiru and Guren reveal themselves and attack Krul, it seems they were also not sensed by her.
- From their joint plan with Ferid it may be the case that Guren and Mahiru were aware or at least would accept Crowley being consumed by Ferid.
- For why Mahiru and Guren would side with Ferid, it is possible that Krul as a progenitor remains a part of the vampire order that humans seek to overthrow, whereas Ferid does as he pleases. Further, Ferid would be willing to absorb stronger vampires and so be their means of potentially overcoming others.
- Although caught off guard and restrained by a chain, Krul feels comfortable in her prowess even without drawing a weapon.
- Introduced in chapter 5, Arukanu was seen sporadically in early chapters before being absent altogether from the story. Returning in chapter 135, Arukanu was addressed by Krul by its new name of Arcane here.
- Arcane is revealed to have another feature to its being, namely quite a large mouth with many short teeth. Ever more peculiar for it, Arcane's teeth are not bat or vampire like as its being may suggest, rather there are many short sharp ones of identical length.
- This chapter shows the first instance of Krul activating a weapon of some sort. It is in the form of perhaps solid wing-like blades at her back. As ever Krul is using her hands for engaging foes, where the increase in power is evident from how she is able to deal with opponents, further from a comment on its abnormally high power that results in Mahiru and Guren attempting to flee after Ferid has been hurled aside.
- Similar to what demons have shown to be able to do, Krul can update her appearance with this weapon activation.
- This is a third distinct type of attire that Krul is seen wearing.
- Krul's hair has returned to what it has been for much of the series, where it only changed to a twin pigtail in chapter 96: "Queen Krul" to return to what it was here.
- Both Mahiru and Guren seemed shocked at the sight of Krul's activated weapon system, where it may be the first time they have viewed it. If he has seen it before or not, Ferid is also surprised at the sight.
- Perhaps not confidant in Guren and Mahiru's power, Ferid doubts their chances of winning only because he himself has taken a lot of damage.
- With her power active, Krul is capable of flying. Where demons have the ability to float, it is the first case of true flight.
- After Krul has activated her power and dealt with Ferid, Mahiru shouts for Guren to pull back.
- While it is the first time being seen, evidently Krul has experience and knowledge on the capabilities of her weapon. She is aware that a lot of her blood is needed to energize the asset and that a limit is if Arcane drops drinking it cannot move. It has yet to be clarified if it is just the weapon that would freeze, or Krul herself.
- Only Ferid is not destroyed right away, in seemingly cutting him apart Krul means to interrogate him later.
- Where Ferid was unsure if they could turn this around, it seems he cannot after he found Krul draw near to slice him apart some more.
- As Krul focused on Ferid, Guren was indeed able to retreat where he is preparing a spell tag related power.
- Apparently a plan long in the making, Mahiru feels she badly miscalculated Krul's power. From keeping tabs of Krul's capabilities, Mahiru felt Krul was already drawing upon her sword's power in another indication that she was watching Ferid assail her from the start. Mahiru seemed to have no notion of Krul's weapon.
- In giving thought to it, Mahiru wonders if Krul's weapon has some kind of limit on it. Krul's thoughts which are unknown to Mahiru provide the answer, there is indeed a limit since if Arcane stops drinking it cannot move. Further, Mahiru has ideas that there is a hefty price Krul has to pay to use her weapon. Again unknown to her, there is, if a lot of her blood being consumed is a hefty price. Either way, though Mahiru would think about this, Krul remains calm in a sense of certainty that she can prevail, and may simply replenish her blood supply anyway by consuming it from others.
- For this situation it is a rare case of Mahiru feeling stressed at their predicament. It likely comes from not having a means of dealing with a problem at hand. In chapter 98: "The King's Chambers" even with the First active again in Shinoa, she remained composed. There was an unknown situation of Mika having memories in chapter 101 "My Desire" and yet Mahiru was unconcerned even with the possibility of it being a trap by the First. Only the chance of Guren dying here has left Mahiru truly unsettled.
- It is possible that it was Mahiru who arranged the plan to have Ferid absorb Krul's strength from Guren's comment of the risks involved. She is the likeliest to have the spell-based knowledge that she could have imparted to Ferid. This power would have been shared early on, as Ferid had absorbed those such as Chess and Horn around the time shortly after the fall of Sanguinem in chapter 42: "Sanguinem's End".
- Refusing to put Guren in danger, Mahiru states if he dies then it is all over for her. She is against the idea of them dying together, Mahiru is set on them achieving what they have worked towards.
- Similar to someone accepting their fate, Guren is fine with dying since he feels that is what should have happened eight years ago and that he could go with Mahiru.
- For her senses, Mahiru can detect when Krul is drawing near. It is possible Krul has the greater senses if she picked up on their location earlier.
- The aura around Mahiru may be her manifesting in the physical world again to confront Krul.
- As a means of recourse for their predicament, Mahiru attempts to remind Krul of the deal they made.
- Resorting to ranged telekinetic powers, Krul can physically affect a demon entity and have one crash into the ground.
- Although desiring Ashera's return above all else, Krul is not willing to risk working with Mahiru to achieve that.
- Since Krul judges Mahiru to be a greater threat than Ferid, she apparently means to end her existence. Where it initially seemed that Mahiru was the only one who could help with returning Ashera to Krul, and where she was turned into a vampire by her, Krul sees her use at an end.
- From Krul's perspective she just needs Asuramaru to take over Yu's body as the means of his return.
- The Spring Shift... ...Mahiru-No-Yo power is activated in the chapter. Spell tags seem involved in this ability. The initial effects, perhaps on its activation, involve the destruction of the room Guren is in before he and the accompanying spell tags head upwards towards a target. The power's full capabilities are not seen where the effects end upon the sword being broken.
- Apparently without contact, Krul appears capable of physically breaking apart Guren's Black Demon Series cursed gear sword. At least three clean cuts without any effort put into them can also end the effects of the cursed gear's active power.
- From finishing them off quickly, or drinking their blood to extend her power, Krul would come to choose the latter option. Changing from finishing off Mahiru, she would consume Guren's blood.
