So what do you guys think is the relationship between these two characters? Their names are alike and backgrounds match up, so they clearly have some kind of relationship, right?

Crazy theory here.
In the Bible it states that the 7 trumpets start with the 1st trumpet which involves blood and fire, hail and sound alll of which can be described as representing change. I think Shigama doji is the first trumpet that was sent down a long time ago to begin the apocalypse. HE is not a demon at all or a vampire. Something happened that made him want to change humans so he started the vampire race. Problem was humans corrupted the power he gave them to change them and they fell into demons.
He thinks that if he dies then maybe the apocalypse can be ended. To do so he experimented on Seraphs, demons, humans and anything else he could get his hands on to create his own death. He also left clues and fragments of knowledge and power around the world so he could have more variability to increase the eventual probability of creating something that could kill him. People like Mahiru and Guren, Ferid, Krul Tepes they used these fragments and ended up causing the Apocalypse to initiate which was part of his plan as it called down more Seraphs for him to use. Shigama Goji is part of himself that he somehow created to serve as his observer and possible catalyst to his demise. All part of God's plan is to have him fall and be sent down as a test to humanity.

I could agree about the trumpets as 5th trumpet matches with the discription in the bible. The author has implemented biblical reference in the story, but I don't think that it was God's plan to send him to earth to test humanity. According to the christian/ hebrew theory apparently there was fallen angel in heaven named Michael, he betrayed god and was sent to the hell.
But there's also another fact, as the light novel says that the fallen angel was a female, so it has to be a female not a male.

I could see this. I don't see him trying to end the Apocalypse, though.
Aren't angels actually supposed to be genderless? Since this is only based on the Apocrypha, it is entirely possible for Kagami-sensei to change details as he pleases, too.
Is that how it is?
The three Michaela vampires we know of are all male, so that might explain why. We don't know about the original Michaela, who fell from Heaven.
true that they are all male and mika has the same name the fallen angel, maybe its mika and the fallen angel must be connected, maybe it's mika's ancestor or something..
İ have a theory about Shigama Doji and Shikama Doji's connection: (just gonna call them Shiga and Shika)
What if Shika is a fragment of Shiga? Like maybe Shinoa mom was a woman that tried to extract Shiga from Tenri (y'know Shinoa's father, the head of Hiragi family before Kureto), succesfully did that, but Shiga controlled her too. So when Shinoa was born, a part of Shiga gone to Shinoa, and became Shika. Then Shinoa's mom died and it gone back to Tenri. Or maybe Tenri wasnt actually family head at all, and Shinoa's mom was. Because of that, when Tenri married that woman, he acted like he was actually the head, at a time period between this and the thing İ will next write probably Shinoa was born from that experiment, then when Shinoa's mom died from natural causes or whatever, Shigama moved to Tenri. And now it is at Kureto.
İ am not sure if this makes any sense at all.

I also suspect Shika is a fragment of Shiga. However, the light novels reveal quite a bit about Tenri's past, so the history wouldn't work out quite like that. Tenri was indeed the head of the Hiragi Clan, and he became such after killing off all of his siblings. Since he fell in love with a woman below his station, she was mercilessly killed. He ended up never loving anyone ever again. If I remember correctly, the books imply he then produced heirs via in vitro fertilization; it's unclear if he had sex with the mothers of any of his children. The experimental births of Mahiru and Shinoa involved demons, and they were the only two to survive the experiment. Eventually, Mahiru fell into demonhood anyway, making Shinoa the only successful result of the experiment. She already had Shika in her when she was very young. When she developed awareness of this demon, she told Mahiru about him, and Mahiru told her to keep him a secret. I think both of their mothers died during the experiment.
