The developments...

Those who access the manga at some point in the future will likely know the current situation and have the benefit of being able to access the released chapters one after the other with no delays. At this point in time as the story these chapters detailed unfolded, with the monthly release of the chapters, what they may never know is the rather drawn out horror of witnessing the events, and then having to WAIT until the next development could be seen. It was all the more pleasurable when with each chapter where it was expected that everything would be remedied the events in fact became far worse. This is of course referring to the situation around the fight between Mika and Yu against Guren with his demons, Mahiru and Noya. The tense stage was set when it became clear that they were to battle but the curtain was really down after the unfortunate reality settled in that this wasn’t to be a round done for the sake of creating drama in a story rather they really were trying to end one another. That Mika gave it his all and Yu could resort to powers he had never used before couldn’t change the outcome was terrible enough. The outcome was the predicament this blog elaborates on.

Mika - Chapter 93 - Page 30 - Panel 5

...were not nice...

Chapter 89 established the new tone since it actually stepped across the line and had something bad befall Mika. Seraph of the End has it’s own refined venom and it knows where to stick it since someone getting hurt is bad enough, and yet dying is far from the worst fate that someone can experience. It was stated that Mika was turning into a demon which set in motion the aforementioned this is bad but once the next chapter arrives everything will be better hopes, that amounted to nothing. Indeed chapter 90 intensified the awful since Mika wasn't healed as would have been expected rather an explosion occurred around him. Chapter 91 was a drawing this awful out in a different way by focusing on events elsewhere. When it was addressed again in chapter 92 it was to reinforce that Mika was transforming and that nothing would intervene to prevent this. More worse was how comfortable everyone was with that idea. That things were going well for others came at Mika's expense. Whilst chapter 93 showed Mika conscious it was no relief since there was something else in the dream world with him that looked like Yu and their orphanage family. It was the wrong kind of making things better. The seraph wings were revealed as false hope what with chapter 94 showing the demon emerge in the physical world and chillingly (through no fault of his own with his frame of mind where he needed something, anything to feel positive about) Yu was pleased with the idea of Mika turning into a demon. Leaving Mika behind were further stings of a different variety. Chapter 95 confirming that they actually really had gone some distance away from him, and the happy tone of it (a comical breather chapter was not really adored at the time given the dire circumstances) then similarly with Chapter 96 showing the squad interact wth Krul was all great for other story areas but still stretched out the glaring why isn't Mika's situation being shown right this instant now question everyone had. The intentional delays must have been one fun filled extravaganza that absolutely must not have been allowed to end anytime soon as chapter 97 followed suit with the backstory on Mahiru, before thankfully chapter 98 brought some clarification on matters.

...not one bit...

That it was shown that the emerging demon was not Mika (as this elucidates) was some respite to say the least. Yet the next landmine is the even worse case of Mika being bound as cursed gear. That’s Yu’s cue. Where in the heat of the moment and likely looking for any good news he was happy at the prospect of Mika becoming a demon (that is not remotely good), now with reflection and hearing the words cursed gear it seems to have sunk in. Yu’s next move isn’t to be happy at this profoundly warped development but address that the Mika becoming a demon bound to a cursed gear isn’t pleasant at all. It is not giddily endearing, a ‘hooray Mika can become a demon and be with Yu forever’ view is disingenuous. He may be a strongest cursed gear, being of the same mind as Yu is lovely, it may make ‘sense’ yet none of it is remotely the point. Mika was hardly happy as a vampire why would this change once he’s turned into a mindless demon set on consuming others. Even with his memories returned it is physically beside Yu where he, they, were both happy. We’ve already been shown the toll of the distance apart from one another when they were separated. Being so close yet so far as a thought demon inside someone’s sword is some Harry Potter Resurrection Stone madness. It's one thing to read what is going on but also register the depth of what it means, yet this is just one view. These manga chapters knew everyone needed updates so naturally chose to have them focus on other areas. With each turn it did not make the scenarios better it made them worse. During the time it took to release them the awaiting was terrible, just to share that with everyone!
